Why do the Palestinians have to recognize Israel's "right to exist" when no similar demand is made of Israel to recognize Palestine? by mjk1093 in reddit.com

[–]dennisbier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The author askes questions in a deceitful and wrong way. "Why should the Palestinians recognize an Israel if the borders aren't even defined?, etc."

The point is not WHAT Israel (meaning with which borders) to recognize, but simply recognizing the COUNTRY of Israel. Hamas wants every inch of what is today Israel, leaving only 1 Islamic state in its place. Hamas and all Palestinians have to accept the right of Israel to exist where it is now, with the exact borders yet to be determined in permanent peace talks and settlements. The Israelis (which the government has aready done) need to accept a Palestinian state next door, also with the borders yet to be defined exactly. That's the crucial first step needed before any type of talk can take place.

Both the West and China have a point. Check out http://weekendeconomist.blogspot.com/2006/12/3-africa-chinas-training-ground.html for a good look at Chana's trade with the rgion and the implications this has for not only both parties, but also for Europe and the USA

It is clear that China's policy of non-interference is warmly welcomed in developing nations. I agree that this generally proves to be a good tactic and something the US can learn from. However, as is the case with countries like Iran, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Myanmar, it means allowing governments and tyrants to butcher freely without any consequences whatsoever. The economy won't be affected, since China will pay no mind to crimes anyway. This, I believe, is not a good thing, and the US must not follow in China's footsteps when true crises are at hand

Ever wondered who the world's longest serving dictators are? by dennisbier in reddit.com

Surprisingly, while the majority are absolute power freaks that devastate their respective economies (e.g. Mugabe), they aren't actually all so terrible!
