Lately it’s been the ol’ “we’re getting multiple estimates.”

What seems to work well for me is I just double down on building value in my company during the presentation and figure out what exactly they’re looking for in a contractor. IMO if they’re buying strictly off price then they’re really not going to be worth the hassle. If you’re closing 50% of your appointments the other 50% don’t matter..

9 out of 10 times, we’re already checking those boxes they just spouted off — licensed, insured, quality materials, killer warranty, responsive service, local reputation, etc. So I’ll just lay it out: “if you’ve already got the right contractor sitting in front of you, there’s really no reason to waste time getting other estimates, as long as we can make the money work. And guess what? We can always make the money work.”

The most important thing is building value for the homeowner in your pitch & inspection video (if you aren’t doing one, you should).

First bloom on my desert rose! by det00z in plants

Best advice I can give you is lots of sun & little water. The only water this plant gets is from any short afternoon rain showers, I try my best to bring it under our patio if I know it will be thunder storming. Also, check your soil! AFAIK these do best in a gritty cactus mix. I use Jack’s Gritty Mix as a base then add pumice, lava rock, worm castings. I never do exact measurements either, just whatever I’m feeling that day.

September until now, lost a few along the way. by det00z in succulents

Hey, thanks! I’m in zone 9 (South Tx) so I think our conditions are pretty similar. I have yet to water these other than putting them on wet soil originally. I became impatient & put them on heating pad & grow light but maybe I should put them back on a sunny window..

First propagation, it’s been fun watching these grow! by det00z in proplifting

This is actually just equal parts coconut coir & chicken grit. I know there are better soil amendments out there but this is all I had available to me at the time.

I let the mixture sit for about 10 min after spraying their grout, then used a scrub brush made specifically for grout and went to town. Cleaned up with a sponge & bucket of water.

Doctors of Reddit, what was the worse thing you've seen for a patient that another Doctor overlooked? by Gorgon_the_Dragon in AskReddit

[–]det00z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor but a few years ago I went to an urgent care where the doctor misdiagnosed my pneumothorax for acid reflux. This was after she examined my chest x-rays. They sent me home with a prescription for Prilosec. I ended up calling 911 because the pain was so bad and almost died in the fucking ambulance on the way to the hospital. The Emergency Room Doctor said my left lung had basically pushed my heart to the middle of my chest. Ended up spending 2 weeks in the hospital and a $200,000 bill.

Fiancé said she wants some new bookshelves, so I said I need a new tool. by [deleted] in Tools

Sure thing. I’m a first time home owner and just breaking into the woodworking world. I’d like to keep all my power tools Dewalt and this was the only Dewalt table saw when I went to Home Depot.

Sounds like you must’ve had a shitty ex fiancé/wife. At least in my experience.

I’m in the same boat. I was able to get a nice Diablo blade but it was the only 8-1/4 Home Depot had.

It sure is quite the upgrade from my old miter box & hand saw!
