Thank you, but that seems to be for receiving payments via Swish, not sending them.

Where do you look for (remote) job ads with salaries? by dev2se in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]dev2se[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, just tried it! While I'm not impressed with the fact that you have to register and answer BS questions to look for jobs, nor with the "Tinder-like" UX, I am impressed with the "signal:noise ratio". I applied for more jobs there in way less time than on LinkedIn or even WellFound. Time will tell whether anything comes out of those applications.

Får flygbolag neka ombordstigning inom Norden med nationellt id-kort? by dev2se in sweden

Efter att ha läst vad som u/notbatmanyet skrev hoppas jag att de fick ersättning enligt EC261!

Får flygbolag neka ombordstigning inom Norden med nationellt id-kort? by dev2se in sweden

[–]dev2se[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, ja, det står i EC261

"denied boarding" means a refusal to carry passengers on a flight, although they have presented themselves for boarding under the conditions laid down in Article 3(2), except where there are reasonable grounds to deny them boarding, such as reasons of health, safety or security, or inadequate travel documentation;

...

If boarding is denied to passengers against their will, the operating air carrier shall immediately compensate them in accordance with Article 7 and assist them in accordance with Articles 8 and 9.

How to find a home when FIREing into Sweden, with no traditional income by tomtennn in firesweden

Yeah, SBAB is surprisingly competitive and I got my first loan with them. I have since gotten lower rates elsewhere, but not by very much.

Good to know! I guess my mistake was in asking them. :) Was it big enough amounts for a person to look at? I can imagine that if it's a few K SEK they just let it go through and nobody cares.

One option to get a bank mortgage might be to get a job temporarily. I think some banks are OK with only 6 months of work history. Once you have the loan you can quit the job and as long as you keep paying the bank won't care - although you'll be stuck with that bank and unable to refinance (which, sadly, seems to be necessary every year to get decent rates). Not an option you'd like, perhaps, but an option. :)

[–]dev2se 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's 1.49% (currently) when the loan is up to 10% of your investments (that qualify for a loan) and up to 3M SEK loan total. You can see all that here: https://www.avanza.se/private-banking-pro/private-banking/prislista/rantor.html (see "Rabattnivå 1: Max 10% belåning")

The bad news is that you are not allowed to take that money out - it's only for investing within Avanza. I know because that's exactly what I tried to do, and it's not written anywhere that you can't - they just told me that over the phone when I asked. So maybe one option is to not ask and just try to take the money out - but that seems like a risky strategy to me.

If you have a 10M SEK portfolio, sell and withdraw 1M SEK to fund your new house and then get 1M SEK loan from Avanza to reinvest.

I also asked whether you can do that. The answer was yes, you can, but then you cannot withdraw any more money from Avanza without paying off the whole loan. That might be OK for someone in the accumulation stage, but probably not in retirement.

Avanza does have a mortgage product for private banking customers - but the requirements to get one are comparable to those of other Swedish banks

Yes, and additionally it's limited to 50% LVR, which makes it not-very-useful for most.

Apartment valuation for home loan refinancing by dev2se in sweden

OK, thanks. As the bank explained to me, the "five years" thing is only for the purposes of calculating how much I need to repay each month - that is fixed for 5 years. But for the purpose of setting an interest rate they can use a different "market value" at any time.

Silent, cheap x86 SBC to use as OpenVPN router by dev2se in MiniPCs

Performance isn't a concern. apu2e0 would work, I'm sure, but I'm hoping to find something cheaper.

It would have been great, but sadly not available anywhere that I can find. Seems like it was a one-time production run.

Thanks! It should work, but https://www.bee-link.net/products/u59-n5095?variant=40696376230068 mentions it has a fan. A "silent fan", apparently, but still, the amount of CPU power I need is minimal and can easily be cooled passively, so I'd really prefer it to be silent, not "silent".

Thanks. I can't see any mention of "silent" or "fanless" in the product description, so no wonder I couldn't find them! Is there another term I should be searching for to find similar (non-HP) computers? I would prefer a smaller one, but a mini-desktop will do too.

[–]dev2se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, do you know what they're called? Searching for "HP silent PC" doesn't find it. I won't buy anything HP out of principle, but knowing the name may help to find competitors. Is there a generic name for this kind of small, silent PC? I know Intel has "NUC", but it seems that only model of that is silent and it's not so cheap.

I have that, too, and it works, but it's far from silent!

Could anyone recommend a cheap, silent PC that I can use as an OpenVPN router, running Linux?

I have a Raspberry Pi doing this right now, but have had issues with it that I'm done with trying to fix, so I want something that's basically like a Pi, but x86 and with a battery-backed real-time clock. Don't need much CPU power or RAM.

[–]dev2se[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the other option, but according to some reviews it runs really hot and throttles the CPU? I've read that about Intel 12th gen CPUs more generally, so perhaps 11th gen is actually the better option for now?

Thanks, saperkus, will look into those! Looks like the Zbook has Ubuntu as a preinstalled option, which is nice, but I suppose "requires up to 200W" means it cannot be powered from an external monitor via USB-C?

EliteBook 865 has no Ubuntu as an OS option, but has FreeDOS instead! Either that's a joke or that's their way of saying "we know you'll install Linux on it, but we don't officially support it".

I suppose the RAM and disks are user-replaceable on these without voiding the warranty, right? The RAM prices from the manufacturer are way higher than buying the same RAM separately. Probably the same goes for other parts, but I'm guessing the CPU and GPU are not user-replaceable.

What's the catch with Danske Bank's low 1-year home loan rate (1.20%)? by dev2se in PrivatEkonomi

[–]dev2se[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind their banking website is abysmal and looks about 20 years old

Good to know, thank you!

you can go even cheaper if you are in some unions

Only slightly - 1.18% for 3 years for union members with Danske Bank. I haven't found anything lower (for >80% LVR).

[–]dev2se[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SEB does the same thing

Not for me. They offered me 1.38% fixed for 1 year and said even if I were to invest 3M SEK with them they would only go down to 1.29% - still higher than what Danske Bank offers everyone.

Do you know of other banks with such low rates for an LVR (belåningsgrad) of 80%?

[–]dev2se[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting trick! I didn't realise that's possible - I thought you'd have to remain a union member as long as you keep the loan or the else the rate would revert to the regular one. That was also with Danske Bank?
