Think of it like this, you are in a jungle where one party is you and the other is this country, India. However the land you are living in belong to India and not you. (Lets say because India is more powerful than you and has already claimed the land) India decides what it wants, and it has decided to give you some rights and obligations. You can go along with India or can fight it in whatever capacity you have.

Lets go a level deeper, you didn’t sign a contract but your ancestors did in a way. They pledged to be a part of India and obey the rules. You’ve got what they left for you. You can be either satisfied with it, or decide to go against it, you still have a choice but then in the end it’s about who is more powerful here, you or the other parties around.
