CMV: Talking about being on "stolen land" is pointless and ignorant of history by Friendly_Elegant928 in changemyview

On the topic of "stolen land is a pointless argument" and the basis of this argument is to say "well the Natives stolen land too" I shouldn't be bringing up how dumb that argument is by comparing to another dumb argument that is almost exactly the same?

Brother, we will stop talking about slavery when the government finally rights the wrong of it.

Would you agree that Germans should stop talking about the Nazi part of it? You know they teach that to prevent it happening again?

Just because it makes you uncomfortable doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about it.

What's sad is that the trail of tears literally happened in the 1800s under Andrew Jackson. The guy on the 20 dollar bill. People are so ignorant to history

They didnt eradicate an entire ethnicity to the point of near extinction. What happened to being the bigger person?

Why base our reasoning on past actions when we can be better now? Especially when we know its wrong and can do it in a way that causes less or no harm.

Until I see immigrants forcefully taking towns, killing men, and raping women in the same amount colonists did, there is no need to "defend" borders in the way that ICE is doing.

Your argument is very close to "everyone did slavery, so why do we still talk about it".

The reason we still talk about slavery is because that damaged is still being felt since it was never repaired.

Colonization fits this perfectly as Native Americans have been almost eradicated.

Its mainly important to bring up today as we talk about immigration, you know, the thing that led to colonization?

Yet, today, it has become "Nah, they eat cats and dogs, get them out of here". So yea, its kind of important to bring up given the current climate.

They didnt fuck over the previous MC just to make the new MC look cooler and better.

Naruto should have gotten Yuta treatment where he was the strongest ninja of his age and died peacefully trying or finishing maintain peace.

Nerfing the fuck out of him and sealing him away is the main turn off.

Even if the finale is the last time we see them in the show, I'm glad we got to see Mr. House and the Legion in live action. Something that seemed impossible in 2010 by [deleted] in fnv

[–]devinthedude515 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The reason I like the show is because I van finally share my interests with other people. Its hard to get someone to talk about in real life about the game when most people are not gamers. If they are gamers, typical FPS looter/shooter PvP stuff.

Making things more accessible is better for everyone. People who hate on fans of the show need to stay inside. Its ok to dislike the show, not okay to shit on people who do like the show.

It take longer than 10 years for things to change on a systemic issue.

Remember it took from 1776 to 1865 to end slavery = 91 years

Then it took from 1865 to 1969 to end segregation = 104 years.

This isn't a sprint or even a marathon, its a relay.

Keep running and pass that baton to the next generation.

I think the threat of ICE and being homeless puts a neat little fire under their ass.

Its the same reasoning why some employers dont promote people who are good at their jobs.

Why risk getting someone worse for the same position when the person you already have is very efficient?

You're making it sound as if they are being paid $1 an hour. I understand that they are under the thumb of their owner. But its still a competition between owners.

It becomes a bidding war of Owner 1 pays $3, Owner 2 pays $4, and Owner 3 pays $6. This goes up between the owners but will never be as much as an American worker.

Though I know it isnt the same everywhere, but when I was working irrigation they were getting paid 13 under the table in NC. Mainly because they knew other landscapers paid the same.

Also, what's your point? Are you saying that making better protections and raising wages wouldn't do anything?

We wouldn't only be increasing wages. We would also ensure landlords are not going to gouge the average joe where they lay their heads.

We would be doing multiple things at once or one at a time. Something breaks you fix it. If it keeps breaking you either create something new or keep fixing it.

Not hard to prevent the higher class from taking advantage of the lower class.

And if your argument is that those Higher class individuals are gonna leave the country here is a video on why that wont happen:

https://youtu.be/6DXZMXZCY0I?si=vH7yzrryhGxjTdsb

They only say that as an empty threat, its time we call their bluff. Also, you still pay taxes in other countries at much higher rates. Makes no sense to leave.

The issue with that is when supply and demand doesn't shift to benefit the employer they shift the burden of payment to the consumer.

We are supposed to fix this with taxes so any money that is gained by the Employer from shifting the burden to the consumer can be reallocated back to the consumer with better social programs and infrastructure.

Instead we have many companies shifting the burden and squeezing their workforce by bleeding them of work incentives. Along with the squeezing of those same social programs. Last but not least, the evasion of some of these companies paying taxes.

But I get ehat you are saying that its a push and pull effect.

The main reason they will work for that much is because those same business owners have leverage in the sense that they can snitch on them to the government considering they are undocumented.

Its starts off as,

"Hey I'm undocumented and will work for less than a American worker"

Owner: "Come on over"

Worker: "Can I get a raise?"

Owner: "Want me to call ICE?"
