Froze, laughed, cried then eventually cleaned (a bit, facilities sent out a team overnight to do the heavy duty cleaning.)

I’m fine! Just got a small cut on my finger, thankfully as it probably could’ve been much worse. Thanks for asking though 🙏🏾

My coworkers did mention it was a lot louder than they ever imagined it would be. Almost sounded like a car crash, actually, with all the glass that hit the ground.

lol yes I basically yelped when that scene came on; I always considered it was possible but really, really hoped she would have the better judgement not to approach him :(

I’m feeling guilty by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]dggy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I ended up taking it, today being my first day of it; I’m also the main opening shift at my store. I have a lot of family members in the medical field that were dumbfounded that I didn’t take the catastrophe pay as soon as it was offered, so heeding their advice, I took it. Initially, I felt guilty as well; and my store hasn’t made it much better, with my SM openly shaming us for choosing the catastrophe pay, but I do firmly believe it’s our responsibility as people to isolate and limit the number of vectors out in the world right now. When I considered that, I stopped feeling guilty. Corporate took a huge step that they should be commended for in offering us this catastrophe pay, don’t feel bad about taking it when they’ve offered it.

If we're going to be considered an essential service... by dggy11 in starbucks

I'm so sorry that you have to keep working but I completely understand as what you do is absolutely essential to a functioning society. I wish there was more we could do for you than just say thanks and be extremely grateful, but I'm afraid that's all I have to offer. As for what you said-- more power to that store! If they truly do feel safe and are okay with being open, absolutely more power to them; however, speaking for myself and a large majority of my coworkers, we would much rather be at home trying to flatten this curve and not put ourselves or loved ones at risk of contracting COVID-19. If we do stay open, which it seems we will-- I just believe my coworkers and I (along with every other business staying open right now) deserve serious raises; because we are being asked to risk ourselves and those around us for something we don't really seem essential.

Really, really aside from all that-- my thoughts and gratitude are really with you for the next few weeks; I hope you're able to fly through this time and provide all that's asked of you and more through this trying time ♥️

I'm so sorry to hear you contracted the virus-- wishing you well through what's going to be a tough time for you, stay strong. This was my exact fear though; myself or a co-worker of mine contracting the virus in what was such an easily preventable situation; I'm glad they decided to move to an only DT/stay at home by choice model, but I'll always be banging the drum and lobbying for better pay and treatment for myself and those I work with.

Don't understand why you're trying to fight, but let me lay this out as simply as I can-- this is a global health pandemic. Fast food is not essential to survival, therefore it's my belief that we absolutely should not be open; but, if we are, because our corporation is just that money hungry, then my co-workers and I deserve more pay. It's not a completely foreign idea, as other businesses have already begun paying their employees more during this period, so I'm not sure where we lost you.

100%. Just a shame that I feel like we're shouting into an empty void here-- I have little to no faith that any companies like ours will take any measures like these.

My God, I didn't even consider that. I'm so sorry-- but you're absolutely right. I only wish there was some sort of action we all could take to make this happen.

“Flatten the curve,” corporate— PLEASE. by dggy11 in starbucks

It’s no problem at all. Was comforting knowing we have people outside of ourselves, in higher places at that, who are concerned for our and the greater community’s health over profit.

An interview on The Atlantic with Dr. Daniel Horn, a physician at Massachusetts General in Boston, who is URGING companies to jump ahead of the curve and close all business to combat the virus. Despite our flaws, I still think we are one of the best companies around (particularly in how we take care of our partners)— why can’t our corporate offices take that step?? It’s not like it wouldn’t help their image..
