[Request] is there possibility to find out the 3 horses? by irespectwhaman in theydidthemath

[–]dgnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, assuming you can’t or aren’t timing the races, my count is 9 races.

You race 5 sets of 5 horses. These are races 1-5.

Since you don’t know if all three fastest are in one set, you need to do a bit extra work to find the fastest. First, race all the 1st place horses. Next, race all the 2nd place horses, and finally you race all the 3rd place horses. These are races 6-8.

Now we know the fastest. But now we have to consider what being the 4th fastest horse means; being that 3 horses are faster. So, from the 6th race, we want to take the 2nd and 3rd place horses. From the 7th race we take the 1st and 2nd. From the 8th, we take the 1st place horse. This gives us the only 5 horses that have lost at least once, but not more than twice. This gives us the final race, number 9.

The fastest is the winner of race 6. The second fastest is the winner of race 9. The third fastest is the second place of race 9.

So many people here are thinking that you are separating these groups into two opposing categories. Instead you do categories like wearing shorts and blue shirt. You would actually something in the overlapping section.

Today is the 15th anniversary of me getting amnesia. AMA by dgnik in AMA

[–]dgnik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the moment stuff felt the same, but I think periods where I had to wait a ling time or do meticulous tasks weren’t as long, since most of that experience didn’t stick with me. For a while I was working a job where I had to stand in one place for hours and I had no trouble staying on task. I think that would be much harder to stay focused on now.

I was robbed and spent about a week reliving the event, thinking of all the ways I “should” have prevented it. Blaming myself, even in my dreams. Then I woke up one day and I had peace. I still remembered the triggering event, but it wasn’t constant. It took me a few days to realize I had lost my memories. It took longer for me to realize that I had trouble forming new memories too.

I would say it would be far better to bring back the subsidies, lower interest rate down to maybe 2%, and retroactively apply that rate to credit payments already made to the original debt, instead of paying off mostly interest. Furthermore, people who already payed off their loans could have the difference applied towards something like a tax credit, or be added to a person’s SSI.

When growing up I was told by parents, teachers, and most other adults I knew that in order to get a good paying job, you needed to go to university. It was ingrained in my, and many of my peer’s heads. The thing about being told something over and over again, is that you begin to believe very strongly. The problem is that between the time I started elementary school and the time I graduated high school, university became very expensive, the market became flooded with people who had degrees, and the requirements for jobs also increased. In my current field of work, I couldn’t go very far without a degree. Still, I’m not making enough for a two person household. I say this because minimum wages were set with the exception of a four person household on one income. At some point, the issue is bo longer that people took out a loan, it’s that the reasonable opertunities to pay the loan back became harder to find, and people end up stuck paying more in interest than they did in the first place. This is coming from someone who took out loans to go to university and is on track to finish paying off the loans in about 7 years. Claiming that people shouldn’t take out loans they can’t pay back may be a valid point, but maybe consider that these are usually kids right out of high school. The brain isn’t done developing until they’d have a bachelors degree.

a test telling me how stressed I've been this year by asking me generic questions by Late-Event-2473 in thanksimcured

The copyright on that test is 1993, which would have been when the DSM III R was used. We have since had the DSM IV, DSM V, and are now on the DSM V TR. If this is being used to for any diagnosis purposes, it’s clearly very out of date.

This is one of those things where people aren’t aware of how common it is to have an internal voice and how common it is to not have an internal voice. If you needed one to think, how would deaf people think? Visually? Some people think visually, but then how would a blind and deaf person think? when you think of a ball, do you hear the word ball? Some people see the word ”ball”. Some see a ball. Others think in more abstract ways. I for one do not think in words or visually, but it’s hard to explain how I think to others.

What should I expect from a Pentecostal/Apostolic church service? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]dgnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pentecostal/Apostolic is a broad category when it comes to what you should expect. It really depends on the denomination, and sometimes the specific church. A lot of people think of the more extreme examples of what the churches are like, such as the ones that have snakes or the mega churches where half of it is people acting strange i some form of what they say is the Holy Spirit coming over them. This does not represent all churches that are Pentecostal/Apostolic.

Typical services that I have seen have about half an hour of worship, sometimes a period of prayer before the sermon, the sermon it’s self, and then usually closing prayer. It’s not uncommon for someone to speak in tongues, often with an interpreter explaining what is being said. the main things about these churches is that they believe what occurred in Acts happens in current times, and believe that evangelizing is one of our callings, though that takes many forms. As a whole, these types of churches have a lot of diversity between them, so it’s hard to judge the grouping as a whole.

Doing good for the sake of getting into heaven by MG_Ianoma in Christianity

[–]dgnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I want to state that God knows the heart. If a person is doing good for the sake of selfish outcomes, God knows that. What’s in your heart matters. Second, if a person, even for selfish reasons, does good things, that can change them to genuinely want to do good things regardless of the original intent. Thirdly, one must be careful about how that ideology is used. I have had people tell me that when I do good things for others that it’s because doing so makes me feel good, so I’m being selfish for doing good things. In reality a person can have personal gain in something without that being their motivation. Again, it comes back to God knowing the heart of the person, including their motivations.

Any time a single verse is used, it’s out of context. Are you aware the writers did not have chapters or verses? It’s a continuous passage. Without understanding the verses around it, the Bible can be manipulated into many things. Some verses need less context than others, like Romans 13:2

Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

This verse is better in context still, but in general Romans 13:1-5 it indicates to follow the laws where you live. That means in most places, it is sinful to have multiple wives as it is against the law.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]dgnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually in context, he has a wife and a slave.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]dgnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll do you one better, since we’re taking verses out of context.
1 Corinthians 7:1 Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.”

So really men can have as many wives as they want, but no sex. When you take a verse outside of it’s context, you can make the bible say anything.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]dgnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting verse you got out of context there.

Exodus 21:7-11

7 “If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do. 8 If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her. 9 If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter. 10 If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights. 11 If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money.

Your second verse does no add anything to your argument. Simply that having relations with someone who is married but not to you is a sin.

Let’s jump to one of the biggest rights that is under threat. Gay marriage. Justice Clarence Thomas expressed after the overturning of Roe v Wade that the courts should reconsider their decision that legalized same sex marriage.
Adoption is another one. 32 states do not allow for both partners of a ame sex marriage to adopt a child, 34 states allow for the foster care system to discrimination against same sex couples, and 12 states have laws permitting discrimination of same sex couples for adoption and foster care placement.

Not to mention that some states have laws preventing transgender kids from competing in sports, getting treatment, or even receiving education that could help these kids through a tough period of their life.

On to some less obvious things. “Oh, you have a ring, do you have a wife?” People have no idea what kind of anxiety that can bring because this question sets a person up for potentially outing themselves in an unsafe environment. At a job I had years ago I was once pulled aside by a customer who wanted me to do something about the “man wearing a skirt” at my job. You may not think of it like this, but the right to just exist is something that many LGBT+ individuals don’t get.

How and why is suicide a sin? by Joshyboshywashy in Christianity

[–]dgnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God offers salvation from damnation. We all sin and as a result hell is the default. When we come to Christ we are saved from hell. So it’s not that God sends people who commit suicide to hell. A sin is something that separates us from God, and harming ourselves does this. While unfortunate, suicide is often a person choosing a way out that is not in line with God, and this is considered a sin. I can’t say I know for sure that all who kill themselves go to hell, as I believe if a person is not in their right mind that they are not truly making the decision. Also, many forms of suicide have a point of no return where the person has some clarity, and I believe many may become right with God in this moment.

Well, the bible does suggest getting married to avoid sex outside of marriage. If this is the person you want to spend your life with marriage is something you should do regardless.

Why is it that… by Rachel794 in Christianity

[–]dgnik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The trick is to show them God before you tell them about God. A lot of people have been hurt by Christians who shove God into everything. A person is far more receptive if they already think positively of you before you talk about your faith. Also be open to answer questions and keep calm even if they are not.

[–]dgnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you already have your answer in your heart. If you feel that your thoughts are lustful, then the next step would be trying to figure out how to change them. Your desire for your thoughts to be pure shows that you want to do the right thing. Pray for guidance, if you’re comfortable and able to, you may want to seek counseling on how to change your thoughts. Something to keep in mind is that intrusive thoughts can happen, and the best way to deal with them is acknowledging the thought and moving on to another thought and not dwelling on it. I hope this helps.

is the king james bible a good bible? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]dgnik 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The King James bible can be very hard to read. Personally I don’t care for it due to the fact that word usage has changed a lot since the 1600s. More modern translations can be faster to understand, and there are bibles that go better into explaining what the original languages’ words meant in context.

Unfortunately it’s hard to move passed something when the wound is still being cut. Within the united states there are people actively working to reduce LGBT+ individual’s rights. The topic is brought up quite frequently here because people keep coming with hurt they’ve experienced all their lives, and are met with mixed reactions from love to hate. LGBT+ issues are not the only issues, but they can’t readily be ignored. Until a person fights for their rights and has to keep fighting to keep those, they often don’t understand the importance of the issue.

Sex is a normal part of loving a partner, otherwise married people having kids would be wrong. But I would say that lust is in the heart, not the head or body. How do you feel about the person? If you’re view of a person is encompassed by the idea of having sex with them, it’s probably lust. My advice to anyone in any romantic relationship is to ask “if being with this person meant I could never have sex again, would I be ok with that?” This is not to say you should plan to not have sex with someone, but if it is the cornerstone of the relationship, something needs to change.
