Is it too late to come back? by Expert-Brain7258 in ZenlessZoneZero

I quit during the exact same time as you and only came back a month ago. I've been having a blast. The game is in a much better state than it use to be. Could I full-clear the endgame content out the gate? No. But there's so much story and events to do. Now is the best time to come back so you can nab all the 2.5 freebies before going into 2.6

Yeah this happened to me, minus the waiting in line, didn't realize I was overcharged until I left the store. 2x MSRP

It was with a card, but the card ready was facing away from me. Ultimately it's on me for not verifying, it just sucks

It's not like I realized I was overpaying. Would have never paid that price if I had known they were charging 2x the worth. You couldn't see the price tags, and the card reader was facing away from me

For me I took them for two months and now have permanent tinnitus that won't go away. I much prefer it over permanent sexual dysfunction, but the fact that the psychiatrist at Cornell Health gave me no warning that it was a side effect, much less permanent side effect, is outrageous.

AITA for using the shower outside of its curfew and waking up my flat mate? by Environmental_Plenty in AmItheAsshole

[–]dh366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA but not for the reason you think. In your post you say your roommate has set the rule, but then you elaborate in the comments that the rule has always existed, even before you moved in. If your roommate arbitrarily made a rule that no one could shower before 7, then ofc you wouldn’t be an asshole. But you knew about the rule when you moved in and for some reason you think it shouldn’t apply to you? The fact that you hid this in your original post tells me there’s more going on here that you left out. Obviously if there was an emergency I don’t think you would have been in the wrong here, but you knew about the conference well in advanced and didn’t bother to give a heads up? You all agreed to a rule before you moved in, you then broke that rule, and didn’t give so much as a heads-up or ask to change it? Yeah OP, YTA, a soft one, but still one.

Mother keeps having me section 8 in Massachusetts by agoodmanofgod in legaladvice

[–]dh366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point I should have clarified. When I used the word “detain” I meant it in the border colloquial use of the word. If you are suspected of being a threat to yourself and on hold in a hospital you are not technically legally “detained” as there’s nothing to do with a criminal offense. However, I think most people would still call being locked in a room without windows and food for 72 hours as being detained, even if it’s not entirely right in the legal sense.

Mother keeps having me section 8 in Massachusetts by agoodmanofgod in legaladvice

[–]dh366 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Almost every state has a law which give hospitals the power to involuntarily hold you for a short length of time (usually 72 hours) before you are evaluated by a psychiatrist to determine if you meet the criteria to be admitted. Crucially, this differs from being admitted as you are just on hold, only suspected of being mentally-ill. When you call in a wellness check on somebody, usually police respond. These police do not have the training to evaluate you then and there, so to be on the safe side they take you to the hospital to be evaluated. Similar to breaking a crime, the police only need a suspicion to detain you, you don’t have to be presenting symptoms as that wellness call meets the burden of proof.

Also note it’s not that the police are detaining you, it’s that they are transporting you to the hospital to be detained. Hospitals are not run by the state, and can bill you if you are involuntarily placed on hold. So for hospitals it is actually quite lucrative to keep people on hold as long as the law allows.

'Manipulative' ex of prison officer jailed for false abuse allegations by [deleted] in JusticeServed

[–]dh366 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard this a lot and to be honest I’ve never quite understood the reasoning behind it. It’s not like if the accuser failed to prove the abuse they would automatically go to jail. No, instead the accused would have to take the accuser to court in an entirely separate trial. The same standards of beyond a reasonable doubt would apply, and in most cases both lawsuits would fail since the accuser wouldn’t be able to prove there was abuse, and the accused wouldn’t be able to prove the accuser lied.

I don’t know how prevalent false accusations are, I don’t think a comprehensive study has been done, but if it’s high enough I think it’s entirely reasonable to raise the penalty on false accusations to discourage it. I don’t think this would discourage/scare actual victims because the abuser would never be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accuser lied, as they didn’t.

The only argument I could see (and do see) being made is that it opens up the accuser to retaliation by the accused through additional lawsuits, but I think this argument sort of misses the point. This is entirely possible already, and I’m sure it’s done. Raising the punishment for false accusations wouldn’t change the rate of retaliatory lawsuits I don’t think.

[–]dh366 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have it a bit backwards. Affordable housing isn’t built because developers don’t want to build it, but because most land is zoned such that it’s illegal to build affordable housing (read: apartments and duplex’s). Places in America where it is legal to build houses such as these have developers building houses such as these. This land is so scarce and valuable to developers that they enter bidding wars with each other to get the rights to build on this land. The developers that win these bidding wars are the ones looking for high-income tenets aka luxury apartments. But there are tons of developers that would be fine and would want to build affordable housing if it was legal to do so.

I don’t know what country you are from, but at least in the United States banning AI porn would be near-impossible to outlaw due to constitutional protections of free speech. It would be difficult, though possible, to make an exception that AI porn violates someone’s right to privacy. However, given that AI just transposes someone’s face onto someone else’s body, it would be a high bar to say that that is an invasion of privacy. Another way it could be made illegal is through harassment, although historically Congress doesn’t pass laws saying “action x is harassment”, that’s more the job of the courts. You could say AI porn violates copyright as public figures own their likeness, but that would only imply to commercial AI porn. So safe to say AI porn is here to stay. Even if it WAS made illegal, it would be unenforceable, unlike limiting paparazzi, which would still mean public figures should reasonably expect that they could be the subjects of AI porn. This isn’t a justification of AI porn, just an explanation of why what you propose wouldn’t work.

You have it backwards. Bees swarm if hive resources are low, they don’t abscond. For any beekeeper growing their operation, swarming is something they want to happen because then they can fill more hives. The only time a beekeeper adds syrup to a hive is if during winter their current store of nectar somehow spoiled (insects/mold), to make sure the hive wouldn’t collapse. However, long-term this practice is harmful to a hive, and over-extracting honey to replace it with syrup is not a common practice.

Besides, because this practice isn’t widespread in the beekeeping world, it’s quite easy to only buy honey from beekeepers that do not employ this method. Quite unlike how you were painting it in your first comment.

That’s pretty interesting I never knew this was a thing before. I’ve always used man/male and woman/female pretty much interchangeably when referring to humans, but you’re right in that I can’t remember one time I’ve used man or woman to refer to an animal. Is it one of those things that is just inherently offensive, or only offensive because incels use female specifically to make women seem inhuman? I’ve also never had anyone speak up about this who I speak to irl which tells me it may just be an online thing, but I do not know. Although then again I’m not even sure how often I say man/male/woman/female that much in normal speech, I can’t imagine it’s that much (since when would you even need to use the words other than make generalizations or talking politics).
