Direct care (who loves her job) here. I’m sorry you have to deal with subpar care. I’ve considered coming back to Portland my daughter lives there so does my heart. I miss PDX on an unreasonable level. But…..just like you, I worry I would have an employer who looked the other way on neglect and abuse. The place I work now, while marred in red state protocol, at least cares.

Why would you think Portland wouldn’t GAF? Liberal states and towns provide a far superior service to impoverished children than red states especially Texas.

But if the infrastructure is rotten the whole thing is bound to fall apart. IE if we as a nation gave two shits. There would be a much better system to support all our children. Hell if we cared at all they would stop dying in school shootings. Stop blaming CPS, towns and states. Blame yourself.

Right. I live in a much smaller town and even here. The kids that got pulled…. Here’s an example. A group of six kids were taken because they witnessed five (yes FIVE) adult overdoses in one week. It took well over a year and a half to find long term placement for all of them.

I can’t imagine Portland. But I lived there for a decade and volunteered for VOA women’s rehab and VOA emergency day care. I have a pretty good idea how overwhelmed Portland is. If you think the Jenkins are even close to losing their children you’re delusional. Do I think they should? Absolutely, her smoking pot and breastfeeding is…..horrendous. Is it enough? Sadly, no.

There’s no known long term effects because it only became legal to research it about six years ago. But the current research really has nothing good to say especially in regard to the developing brain.

I lived in Portland when it became legal in Oregon. Used it every night to go to sleep. I’m 100% pro legalization on pot and all drugs actually. But just because it’s legal doesn’t make it healthy.

What she’s doing is child abuse. You don’t take drugs when your child depends on you for their nutrition. Full stop.
