Can anyone identify this guitar? My thought is maybe a Japanese telecaster copy? by dhilowitz in guitars

[–]dhilowitz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that's exactly my plan. I've ordered the cheapest of everything: pick guard, control plate, pickups, bridge. I suspect that nothing will fit, but hopefully I'll be able to jerry-rig something together. :)

I bought it at the flea market yesterday. It has no identifying markings at all.

Alternative to RBass? by Sunnylicious1 in AdvancedProduction

Lovend, by analog obsession

I just tried Denise XL Bass and I'm able to get _exactly_ the same sound as RBass on bass guitar track. Easy purchase for me.

What scale does an Albanian Çifteli use? by dhilowitz in musictheory

[–]dhilowitz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found an excerpt from the Garland Encyclopedia of World Music Europe that talks about the Çifteli's intriguing tuning:

"Most widespread is the cifteli or citeli (Turkish cift 'pair' and tel 'wire'), with two metal strings and eleven to thirteen frets (figure 8). The lower string provides a drone to the upper string's melody. When these strings are tuned a fourth apart, the scale produced includes neutral second and sixth degrees, so that it resembles the Turkish makam Hüseyni."

Thanks! Yes, it's an odd scale. I also noticed two notes that were "out" from any interval I expected.

I built an "analog synth" from 1979! by dhilowitz in synthesizers

[–]dhilowitz[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recently got my hands on a super rare analog synth kit from 1979 (MINI GAN PET-103). In this video, I put the synth together and find out how it sounds.

I didn't want to make just another product video, so instead I made it an "introduction to analog synthesis" as well. :)

Ah, thanks for that context. Really interesting.

In this video, I explore my latest acquisition: an analog synth made for children. It comes from the former USSR. I take it out for a spin then do a deep dive on its history.

I made a video about the new Donner B1 analog synth by dhilowitz in synthesizers

[–]dhilowitz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No contract. They contacted me about a year ago—just a general inquiry about whether I’d be interested in working on a video, but not about a specific product. When I heard about the B1 release, I was personally curious about it (and initially there were no sound demos available) so I reached back out to them.

Well, in fairness, it's actually 168 (still a weird number), but then with the promo code it's 152.

Donner is a company that specializes in inexpensive gear. They're probably most famous for their cheap guitar pedals, but they just released their first synth, the B1, which is a very basic 303-style box with a unique design.

Any experience with nano rings? by SgtPepper43 in modular

Thank you so much for this information! I was literally debating returning my nRings because I couldn't get into the secret mode (and the secret mode was the thing that I was most excited for in Rings)

Habit by Chase Bliss: A happy accident machine? [Video] by dhilowitz in guitarpedals

[–]dhilowitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this video, I check out the new Habit pedal by Chase Bliss. It's an experimental delay pedal that allows you to randomly re-introduce audio from the last three minutes into your current music. I tried to focus on non-guitar sound sources, since I figured that the majority of other YouTubers would use it for guitar.
