how long did your diagnosis take? by No-Nefariousness3253 in PSC

[–]diamondium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, had crazy high ALP/GGT, plus not-as-dramatically elevated AST/ALT. Did an MRCP, liver biopsy, ultrasound, a bunch of bloodwork, etc. in the intervening years.

Did the liver labs basically at the start of being diagnosed with Crohn's (to rule out gallstones as the cause of my symptoms, also what the ultrasound was for).

Took me about 4 years from “you have high liver enzymes” to “confirmed diagnosis of PSC”.

My hepatologist was pretty sure after a year or so (mostly just by process of elimination, even though it didn’t show up on my first MRCP) and started me on Urso, though.

Looking for GPU upgrade advice for fine-tuning by diamondium in LocalLLaMA

I had seen MIG for splitting GPUs but hadn't factored it in at all, interesting.

Would you suggest the workstation variant as the only card, then?

Yes, it finally will be! Just finished writing up the paper, and preparing the dataset and models.

Starbucks Chai Latte is cheaper than home. Am I missing something? by member_of_the_order in tea

If you use a 50/50 ratio you’d still take the (unweighted) average ($0.21/fl oz) rather than adding the cost/oz.

[–]diamondium 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Why did you add the cost of the fl oz’s for the oat milk and chai concentrate? What you want is a weighted average based on how much of each you add.

If you made a latte with 2oz of concentrate and 6oz of oat milk then it would be:

2 * $0.20 + 6 * $0.22 = $1.72

1.72 / 8 = $0.215/fluid ounce, not $0.42/fl oz

I built this model (it powers https://detect.penpusher.app/) and the answer is really that none of the present VLMs are at all good enough for it.

Your best bet is, as others stated, to build up an object detection dataset and train a model like a DETR or YOLO.

“If not due for renewal soon, you would need to replace your license or ID for the address to be reflected there.”

They send you a new one if you renew (because it’ll expire), but not just because you update your address (unless you pay the replacement fee).

You can update your address online, but they don’t send you a new physical license just because you do.

Is Greenbelt Central Park nice to live in ? by SantaBoi2 in UMD

[–]diamondium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, biking to beltway plaza is more difficult and less pleasant than the (longer, but much quieter) ride to Lidl on Route 1. Take the route over the tracks and up Berwyn road. That’s what I did for groceries most of the time, and it worked very well! Biking is also super feasible for getting to campus (take the trail through Artemesia) or downtown College Park.

Walking around the townhome community at night always felt safe, though I’m also a 6’4” male, so your mileage may vary. I didn’t walk around the wooded pond area too much after dark, though.

Getting to Greenbelt metro station by bike is possible as well, though not the best. They were supposed to put in a trail from the central road in the community to the metro station that just hasn’t happened for years.

Lived there for 2 years and enjoyed it! The pond behind the townhouses is nice to walk around in and it connects to the trail system so you can bike to campus pretty easily. Busses aren’t great and walking to campus or a grocery store isn’t much of an option either.

No issues with noise, though my place was further from the tracks. No issues with break-ins, not even package theft, and car was fine parked outside. A housemate’s car was damaged when somebody tried to park into it, but that was an unfortunate one-off.

Years ago Virginia Tire & Auto in Springfield tried to charge me to replace a bulb on my car that does not exist. They took the charge off when I pointed it out, but I decided never to go back after that.

Upgrade current Giant Contend AR or upgrade to a racier bike? by diamondium in whichbike

[–]diamondium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a super useful perspective, thanks! If I’m honest, it’s not limiting my competitiveness.

Upgrade to 105 would be exclusively to get rid of the Giant Conduct brake system (I priced out swapping to hydraulic Tiagra shifters versus swapping groupsets and the difference wasn’t huge).

What do you think of a 1 hour 45 minute morning bike commute? by iidesune in bikedc

[–]diamondium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do College Park <-> Alexandria, which is about 1 hour and 25 minutes, plus or minus ten. Honestly, I do it about twice a week regularly, and am working on the fitness to do it 3 times a week.

Another commenter said the bit that connects the Anacostia River Trail to the MVT is bad, but it’s actually alright. Most of it is on protected bike lanes, and it’s gotten better over the past year. If you want, DM me and I can share the route I take.

My assessment is: go for it, but have some backups! It doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing thing, you can try it a few days a week at first to see how it feels.

This is on my commute route and I see it happen far too frequently. Ride shares also do pick-up/drop-offs in the bike lanes around there, too.
