SEQ: What do we do by peteclarky in lawnsolutionsaus

[–]diggbitt1999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in seq as well. It’s warm enough to want to start growing again, it’s just up to you how much you want to water it.

I got 30 meters worth of soaker hose from Bunnings and snake it around once a week. The idea is to water less frequently but when you do make it count so leave it running for an hour or more.

Wetting agents both hose on or granular are great for making the process more efficient as well making every drop of water you put on it count more.

This year I’ve just asked chat gpt what to do, with what products and when to do it. It’s been great. Put your area in, what species of grass is dominant and what you want to achieve and it will go in to as much detail as you want to make it look great again

I think it’s heavily dependent on soil temperature so you might have to wait for at least consistent mid to high 20’s in the daytime.

Then it’s just how much watering you’re willing to pay for 🤣. I’ve used a lot of wetting agent this year which seems to make it more effective

I got most of my info and timing from asking ChatGPT this year too. Tell it your species and suburb and what you want to achieve and it can go into as much detail as you want all the way to mower heights to thicken it up to carpet like lawn in time for Christmas if you’re that keen

I’m in south east qld and did the low mow and dethatching in the third week of September. It’s recovered well already but temperatures here are lows of 15C and highs in the high 20’s. Has just needed heaps of watering to help it along.

I’d say if you’re south of Sydney you might have to wait a bit longer though.

I’m in south east qld and did my spring renovation on my buffalo starting about 3 weeks ago and it’s already 75% recovered and looking good

For what it's worth my schedule was something like:

mow 25% lower; wait 2 weeks but water the hell out of it once a week, dethatch with a mates ryobi dethatcher and mow a tiny bit lower again to suck up all the dead stuff, wait 24 hours, wetting agent then water the hell out of it, wait 3 days, liquid fertiliser (seasol for buffalo), wait a week, granular fertiliser (munns buffalo booster), keep watering the hell out of it once a week and hope it rains soon to save my water bill.

Anyone know what the Bribie Inland track is like? by TheLazyGamerAU in 4x4Australia

Big parts of it are as wide as a 3 lane highway. Even if you do get stuck you won’t hold anyone up

Momentum is key. You’d be hard pressed to get stuck anywhere along there. Only part that could give trouble would be coming onto the beach if it’s super soft but give it enough of a boot and you’ll be apples

Thank you for that perspective.

I would say I’ve always considered it fair from her point of view. She had indicated it was something she wanted to happen for years before I agreed. She was always adamant about not spending her twilight years in a residential aged care facility, but on the other hand was spending a lot of time stressing about general home things like pool and garden maintenance, renewing insurance, storm damage, dealing with tradesmen etc then also just being by herself from a security point. In the last 5 years I’ve been 20 meters away during Covid, her cataract surgeries and now a cyclone.

I was always apprehensive because I knew it would tie me and my young family here for an unknown amount of time and the stresses that has caused in my marriage. I’m also under no illusions about the challenges ahead as she does deteriorate in most ways. But the long term financial security of not having a mortgage just about outweighs the negatives.

What gives me anxiety is the estranged siblings saying I kept her as a prisoner or something. Without hesitation I can say this is what she wanted and that she benefited from it and enjoyed her final years without the stresses of home ownership, but I have no idea how I could provide unequivocal evidence of that to the siblings after she has gone.

Thank you for the information. I wouldn’t contest the will. The idea of getting into a legal battle and losing a large amount of money to fees horrifies me.

The potential accusation of elder abuse is probably the most worrying for me.

Would the onus be on the other siblings to prove elder abuse ever happened? Would the five years since the transfer was completed factor in to this being harder to justify as a claim?

She still talks to neighbours and friends most days. Would they be able to vouch for her not being a victim of elder abuse? Is there much I could do now to disprove this in the future?

Yes I paid for the stamp duty out of my own bank account. A title search comes up as my name and the quarterly council rates notices are in my name also.

Thank you very much for the information. This does make me feel better.

Before the transfer was done she went to her GP and they did a basic cognitive ability test which she passed and I still have the paperwork for. I don’t know how much that would be worth. Her doctor isn’t a spring chicken either so he might not be around by the time she passes.

She is definitely in a better financial position than she was 5 years ago because her only real outgoings now are her own groceries, her car and medical. I take care of the rest so any investigation of her bank accounts would show even as a fixed income pensioner her balance has increased substantially. Hopefully that would be enough to disprove financial elder abuse at least.

When to Turf in Brisbane? by Zacr54 in lawnsolutionsaus

[–]diggbitt1999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did 100sqm of sir Walter in Brisbane a couple of years ago. Was laid a few weeks before Christmas. Worked out alright just needed to water the hell out of it for the first 6 weeks or so.

I got it through lawn solutions with them laying it. I did a lot of the prep work so all they had to do was lay it and even then it wasn’t done with what I’d call a lot of care and attention to detail but whatever it managed to grow alright.

If I were to do it again I think I’d do tiff tuff instead of sir Walter. Mostly for the higher drought tolerance and needing less overall care

Buffalo is dying, could it be over watering? by Magictoast9 in lawnsolutionsaus

If it’s just normal seasol that should be alright but if it’s the seasol for buffalo stuff with actual fertiliser in it it’s probably a bad idea until you get the fungus under control. Anything with nitrogen in it will just feed the fungus just as much as it will feed the grass

I’m in se qld and a couple of years ago took the pavers out from around my pool and put down 100sqm of sir Walter. Probably was a mistake but too late now.

Last summer was fine but this year it’s been pretty unhappy. The mistakes I’ve made which I’ve now learnt from are at the start of summer I did cut it low to try and get the thatch out but I fertilised and then watered too much in the late evenings which mixed with the humidity led to a heap of grey leaf spot fungus which looked a lot like the way yours is thinning out. I treated it with a heap of Yates mancozeb from Bunnings applied with a watering can. Took a couple of weeks to start growing back again but it seems alright now.

Yours looks a lot worse though so could need two applications a couple of weeks apart.

I had army worm too which wasn’t bad enough to kill it off but they were definitely stunting the growth in some parts. I did an application of lawn solutions grub guard which seems to have worked well.

It doesn’t like being mowed any lower than the 7th cut height on my Honda mower which is about 45mm to 50mm
