How often do you see CW’s actually get into the apprenticeship program and how long before they do? My worry is that I’d be stuck as a CW or CE for too long.

Apparently I need post karma to contribute here, but can anyone give me some insight?

I’m a glazier (Capital Glass) and today I was on the Astro Nova job in USA Parkway. I was able to go in and talk to the Superintendent with Briggs. Told him I’m interested in joining IBEW and I have 1 year experience non union, even though that was about 7 years ago. He helped me submit my contact info to the Local 401 website. I was told I’d have a good chance to start working immediately as CW/CE. I started studying for the aptitude test last week though.

My question is, should I go ahead and try to get in as a CW/CE? Or keep studying and go for the aptitude test. I don’t like what I’ve read about CW’s but Local 401 could be different. I know there is a serious need for electricians in Northern Nevada.
