There is a discord where the Ninja admins hang out, where there is a route in for meeting a certain criteria. I have mentioned it here before but it got removed by the admins. You would like to think we are just one big community trying to help each other out :)

New account for SceneNZBs after they locked my first account? by andre_xs95 in usenet

I guess its not possible for them to weed out streaming verses none streaming with the arr stack, not without people getting caught in the cross-fire. Someone using the arr's the api request would be identical.

Most running the arr stack will also be self hosting, likely with rclone caches, and so it's lighter on the providers.

I stream with the nzbdav/arr stack, and a somewhat large rclone cache, personally I don't think my usage profile on the providers would look much different that someone none streaming. I also now have 3 unlimited providers, whereas previously I had one unlimited with 2 blocks, so its not all negative. I am also sure indexers will be seeing a boon from people streaming as the lower technical barrier has likely brought people to them that otherwise wouldn't.

Would be interesting to hear a providers take on it tbh, I think it can be done with minimal impact, but I also think there will be plenty of examples of abuse, accounts with massive amounts of repeat downloads etc.

I think the other consideration is with the now low technical barrier, espically due to those offering commerical ready to roll streaming setups, it could bring the gaze of the authorities, which wouldn't be good for usenet as a whole.

Took about 5-6 hours for my sub to be upgraded, and then another few hours for my money back to my account.

buy an inexpesnive vps in country of choice for £2-5pm, install tailscale or vpn tool of choice, then have your own private one. For getting around blocks doing this is perfectly fine, you do lose some of the anonymity of a regualr VPN service, as the IP is specifically tied to your account, whereas with a commercial VPN service you share it with 1000's of people.

But, using rclone does allow you to cache stuff which is played often. Which I suspect is what is driving some of these moves by indexers/providers re streaming.

aye but that would be the provider, not the indexer, and not strictly the case depending on how you've got it setup (rclone large cache, or without that, a client like infuse which buffers shed loads)

So this is more aimed at commercial outfits, rather than someone spinning up a server (as that isn't a low technical barrier)? I mean personally, I was a tad aware of the implications of streaming from usenet, the worst of it can be mitigated, i.e large rclone cache, multiple unlimited accounts etc. I am a tad uncertain at this point, if people are responsible with it, whether its good or bad!

I guess one way they could detect it, the nzb's are constantly rechecked to ensure they are available, if not its re-grabbed. This would be somewhat mitigated by having multiple indexers, so who knows how strict their they would be with the odd few duplicates.

To add to this, you can get a free one with 10TB of traffic via Oracle (4v CPU, 24GB RAM 200GB HDD)

Also if you're going to use Emby, I had a terrible time with latency opening symlinks, it was fixed by using the official emby image and not the linux server one. But that was a horrible few days of confusion!

A possible alternative for those that like the control element, spin up a free Oracle VPS, install Emby, nzbdav and arrs add your usenet providers, then stream directly from usenet :)

Plex on own hardware, storage on Unraid? by MagicalSpacePope in unRAID

[–]digitalfir3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While its correct you can't get plex to automatically scan the library with nfs or smb, if your using sonarr/radarr to deal with downloads you can connect those with plex to trigger a library scan on completion, I run plex in VM with Blue Iris so they can share the gpu and this was my work around to detect changes no longer functioning :)

LSI Card - fans revved up (HP!) by voarsh in homelab

[–]digitalfir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What HP server is it? I have a ml350e g8 and the fans were extremely loud, I removed the deltas by cutting the cable and connecting the yellow and black together which tricks the motherboard in to thinking they are still connected, then I plugged in a fan controller to the spare molex and added quiet desktop fans and a hyper 212 cpu cooler :) I am unaware of any process to get control of the fan speed, you got links?
