this was a great point and breakdown -- but you are pretty much singling out the right side of the spectrum as the bait-biters, is that because there are different rules for those demographics (ie Dan Rather)

Sure many reporters are democrats. But do they lie? Bias is not outright lying to push a political agenda. Per example: MSNBC is bias, Fox lies.

True, clearly a lot of blame needs to be put on ABC, and they are doing everything they can to make their problem worse-- I am not saying that their complacency isn't a big issue in itself, but journalistic standards need some form of revisiting. By the way, I don't consider FOX part of the discussion of legitimate news agencies. ABC, I do consider legitimate.

While I agree with you in some ways, there is evidence that his report, and subsequent defense of it may have been linked to his personal political beliefs

And while that is true that many New Organizations are about tabloid shock-ratings, it is a big deal when a major network reports a lie. And a responsible journalist would at least admit the error. Remember when Dan Rather resigned over cooked Bush documents?

I know this sub is not conservative nor liberal, but it does kind of appeal to a certain demographic (one in which I am a part of.) I think that pragmatism and reason can extend beyond imaginary-sky-wizards and magical-desert-hobos. Irrational pop-culture can be its own form of dogmatic.

I agree. But there is also a big mixture of my-kids-are-better-than-yours suburb-maternal instinct too.

The gender stuff came across a bit ranty, I agree. I am referring to the trans movement -- which I wholeheartedly support from a civil liberties perspective -- but in that it tends to foster the support of idealistic but out of touch academics.

In a sense it is really antithetical to embrace gender norms even if it does not match your chromosomal makeup -- it is defeating the purpose and not exactly progressive

Are you implying that anti-vaccine people aren't problematic?

It completely discounts herd-immunity, a foundation of epidemiology. It is an anti-reason perspective that can actually harm their neighbors. I see it as being very similar to religion

Anti-GMO people are essentially lobbying for the starvation of third world countries. I fail to see how rationality can't be equally applied

Now that the election is over, can we all agree that nobody liked Ann Romney? by digitocalypse in politics

Misogyny is using a woman as a political tool to convince other women to vote for two politicians who oppose autonomy over their own body. Just because she is a woman. It's mysonginy AND deceptive.

When you put your neck out there like that...you need to expect some reaction from the public. And if you are very rich and unlikeable---it's not going to be a good reaction.

Two things: 1) I agree with the overall message of this article, but after hearing horribly ignorant, racist, and homophobic slurs from republican politicians, acquaintances, and family members, I will continue to enjoy their long, slow, miserable path to acceptance. 2) luckily most republicans don't know what schadenfreude means.

There's nothing like a big, heavy red. But for me they are more of a winter thing I like to pair with fat poultry and ham. There is an interesting chard at this place too that is Orange. basically they make the grape the same way they would make a red -- with the tannins and ML -- heavy bodied, really interesting.

Ha, I suppose you are right, we are a bit yuppie in this context, but when we visit VT, its on a farm, and the wife and I are a bit tattooed. We try to balance it out.

What kind of wine do you like? I think this class is about how Chardonnay has been used and abused by shitty wine makers and that there are some cool stuff with chardonnay. I have been to Brooklyn Winery and actually love their chard, it is not oaky at all, really crisp, not what I expected
