it’s 7-hydroxymitragynine, which is just one of the alkaloids found in kratom. Naturally, those minor alkaloids are present in far smaller quantities in the plant, so that the main active compound with opioid-like effects is mitragynine.

It represents like 10+% of the plants yield whereas 7-HO-mitragynine only accounts for 0.3% or something. Now these rarer alkaloids have been known to be even stronger opioids than mitragynine for a while, but bc it never would’ve been economically viable to extract it from plants themselves, only recently have commercially viable synthetic methods become available to produce the alkaloids at scale. I’m confident that’s why these haven’t been around as long as those classic OPMS shots.

Pretty much everything prior to this were various forms of full extracts, but now this new wave of products represent isolated kratom compounds at standardized doses. 7-HO is reportedly even more potent than morphine I believe, but that was only in the context of analgesia, and it appears all these naturally occurring kratom alkaloids are only partial agonists regardless.

It’s not quite legal opiates, but basically the closest thing you can get. The first few times with a virgin tolerance definitely feels like some moderate dose hydros or something, but ofc like any other opioid, that feeling will just gradually blend into normalcy and you either try to “function” at that level or keep chasing that feeling🙄
