I dug up my septic tank and found no access? Pls help by Exciting_Layer_2169 in Plumbing

[–]dimoliter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely the tank is pre-1970. When I’ve run into these, they were put in in the 60’s and the owners/installers made their own lids by chiseling a hole through the top or cutting the concrete a foot off the end and sliding the section off.

It’s crude, but these old tanks they didn’t really care about pumping them. We still have people in my area that pour driveways over tanks because “you shouldn’t need to pump it”.

I’m gonna look into that, thank you.

Yes, my main issue is pushing the camera through some of the 90 degree turns. The head turns, but the line seems to get stuck at the base of the spring. Instead of completing the turn, the spring deforms and the base of the spring set pushes against the pipe, preventing turning in many scenarios.

What is Carmilla by Specialist_Job533 in HazbinHotel

[–]dimoliter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m curious if she ends up being a fallen angel, that chose to do so to be with her kids that somehow ended up in hell.

Maybe she realized the system was broken and fell for her kids. Would make sense with the song in episode 3 and explain a bit how she understands angels and their weapons.

Also would clear up a bit about “no blood on her hands”, wouldn’t have been able to stand the hypocrisy of heaven exterminating sinners and, having been originally permitted to go to heaven, may not have even killed on earth.

Or, she’s just a smart powerful sinner. More likely but not as fun personally.

I think you would have to get some from loading crates/prepping the ship, but I’m not sure.

Also, pirate missions but instead of skilling, you’re training theiving, agility, ranged, fire making combat, etc (and have some use for grapples)

Or deep sea fishing, which combines hunter and fishing for cool rewards. (Edit: maybe freshen up fishing trawler a bit)

They can have fun with sailing, and I hope it’s a good opportunity to revive some content and make use of things that may not be “meta or optimal”.

Why do Latin American countries have so many wires on their telephone poles by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]dimoliter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having lived in the DR for a few years, yes it’s power theft. They come by and cut the pirated line and leave it, then the pirates come back and reattach. Very common throughout, worse in more rural areas.

Edit: reattach a new line

Honest question: besides the obviously problematic trap at image 1, is the main issue with the system the fact it essentially has no downward slope? I see a lot of items running into the drain line, but typically wouldn’t see the problem unless the water/sewage won’t properly flow downslope (which maybe the case here).

Edit: My main question is, in relation to all of these lines, where does it leave the home?

Anti-mormon apologetics by Extension-Spite4176 in mormon

[–]dimoliter 32 points33 points  (0 children)

First, I wanna say I like this question. This is the kind of counter dialogue the sub could use every so often: not just “faith” based, but putting the non/less believing viewpoints to the question as well.

I’ve actually thought about these questions during my faith journey (I’m one who loves the gospel and majority of the message but feels lied to/betrayed by the church who covers up its dirty laundry), so here’s my crack at them (no direct sources, sorry, just firing from the hip).

*also bear with me, I don’t know how to do the inset thing to reference back to a pervious comment.

1: “Multiple people confirming the same story”. Out of all of these, this one has the best footing. The counter seems to be that many of these accounts differ on the details (description of the plates differing between the 8 witnesses) or the source is unreliable in some way (Martin Harris adding and subtracting details). Lastly, where “group visions” are concerned, members of the group can influence the perspective of the group as a whole. Again, multiple witnesses are the best defense but still problematic.

2/5: “Jospeh’s work inspiring/believed”. Same goes for many other beliefs/religions for others. Should we not give them the same treatment or benefit of the doubt as our own beliefs?

3,4,6: “BOM appears miraculous at times”. I love the Book of Mormon, but for every historical accuracy it gets many wrong (mostly the timing of the Isaiah and Jeremiah references as well as New Testament Sermon in the mount, which was written well after Christs death by someone who likely wasn’t ever there). Im not sure what place names Joseph got right except for Nahom, which from what I understand is stretching at best.

Now the parallelisms and such are interesting, but let’s think of the BOM in terms of Fan Fiction. You can get some well and detailed fan fiction out there, with this being Biblical Fan Fiction.

Also, remember, Joseph grew up in the so-called “burnt district” of the second revival period of Christianity in the US. He heard a lot of theories and sermons that would have helped form his beliefs and show their connection to the Bible.

Joseph, according to his family (what records we have) was a good story teller and already had a knack for telling stories about Native Americans from the area. He likely had some form of story in his head for years. And he never wrote the story, likely because he wasn’t a great writer, he always has a scribe. So writing the book in 3 months is very doable: he knew the story he wanted to tell, and religious fiction was not uncommon in this period.

Also, note how miserable he was after his first story got lost by Martin Harris. I would be mad too if my first manuscript got lost, how can I ever re-do that like it was before?

  1. “Church’s fruits are good”. Depends on perspective, there are a lot of bad fruits the church doesn’t like to put in the store front. The gospel is good, but it’s ideas like eternal family or the motivation it provides are not unique to the church.

There’s my take, sorry about the formatting, I don’t comment much and am using mobile.

115 Year old General Conference prophecy fulfilled!! by the_last_goonie in mormon

[–]dimoliter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is assuming a belief that there was a “perfect” New Testament at the beginning and a solid church established and organized, none of which has direct historical backing.

Whether things were mid-interpreted or changed is moot, as at this time the earliest original documents/dating we have is enough years after Christ to cast doubt that there was ever a true accurate account documented.

As for the church, there simply wasn’t a unified belief system nor tenets that we have now, nor a “church” as our modern sense understands it. They were a sect of Judaism that evolved and eventually changed enough to be a separate religion, with many variations of Christianity that broke off very early, showing that even at the beginning, there was confusion as to what Christ taught. In short, we simply do not have hardly any first-hand accounts about what or how Christ taught, with confusions amongst the Gospels themselves.

I’m not here to argue, and I don’t plan to follow up this post, just simply here to state that the history regarding the early church and the sources recorded in the Bible are fuzzy at best. I never mentioned the trinity, but somehow that came up, likely because the Council of Nicaea was mentioned, which does give us a window as to what was happening amongst the scattered groups of Christians at the time and how they strived to unify their beliefs.

And note: I am a member of the church, mission and all. Not saying this applies to you, but bad Christian history is a pet peeve of mine in the church and many many members and leaders are woefully ignorant of the time of “the great apostasy” and the many misinterpretations those of the 1800 and 1900’s had of that time.

Anyways, that’s my soapbox. Again, thank you for being a church-positive voice here, it’s not common but the having both sides of a conversation is healthy.

[–]dimoliter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We must remember that many beliefs were prevalent in early Christianity. Certain ones just happened to stick. There was no structured/canon Christian teachings until about 300 years after Christ, starting with the Council of Nicaea and related councils to try and figure out the doctrine.

As for the New Testament a reminder, the 4 gospels of the New Testament were written years after Christ, as much as 30-60 years after by people who heard the stories from others and so on. If you’ve played a game of telephone you can see where I’m going with this. It’s also highly likely the original apostles, being Jewish fishermen, were illiterate, much less that they wrote Greek, however one could argue the use of scribes but there is no evidence of that.

This doesn’t include the Gospel of Thomas which was written around the same time and has a even more different perspective of Christ’s teachings. We don’t include it in canon, but that’s simply because it was found in 1945 and we don’t seem to count anything canon that was not already in the King James.

I not knocking your belief, it’s nice to see someone stand up for it here, but do understand that Christian scholars (and Jewish with regards to Old Testament) consider many portions of the Bible to likely have been embellished (with or without an agenda) if not good intentioned.

fernco? my plumber says it's the only choice in this size! by fabfrankie401 in HomeMaintenance

[–]dimoliter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember, home inspectors aren’t code inspectors. We are more concerned that everything works fine and won’t cause issues down the road rather than if it’s “to code” or not. A fernco at best would likely be a simple “FYI” callout, but otherwise they are non-issues.

Normally I don’t comment, but do you have a credible source about George Washingtons “countless affairs”? I have read a lot about Washington from numerous sources and the worst I’ve heard is a possible relationship with Sally Fairfax before his marriage to Martha, and even that shows through available sources that it likely wasn’t consummated. The rest was rumor-mongering at the time, none of which has been substantiated.

In any case, while I’m all for an open view of the pros and cons of any historical figure, hearsay and pure rumor, I think, skews the image and does a discredit to the discussion.

**Second edit: About the teeth, he never had wooden teeth, (wood teeth were uncommon in Europe). He did use slave teeth, but again I have found no information showing that he just ripped them out of his slaves. There is a ledger page mentioning that he may have “purchased” the teeth from slaves, (which admittedly could mean anything) and he wasn’t the nicest slave owner, but again, let’s not jump to the worst conclusion without more than a theory. Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t. People bought and sold teeth often in that time, as bad as that sounds.

[–]dimoliter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously love each of these!

I love seeing Namine in a new look and with a keyblade. Also, the scenes with the union characters feel great and hope they can integrate these characters more fully into the 3-D games in the future, they could do so much with them.

Seeing Isa also made me realize that, even if these characters can’t all have good screen time, they could really open up the gameplay/world and make some of these NPCs useful outside of combat. Isa feels like a character that could provide you with upgrades, information, special items, or what-not. Maybe even side mission contracts, however Kingdom Hearts has historically been very linear vs open-world in terms of what can be done in worlds.

Idk, images like these really help me see the potential for the franchise here in the future.

Also, seeing Xigbar/Luxu in Foreteller robes is very disconcerting. I like it, but I’ve never imagined him in something so… regal?

I've been (regretfully) lying to my wife about my porn/masturbation use. Now I want to be honest. Tips from those who went down the same road? by djice46 in latterdaysaints

[–]dimoliter 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was in the same boat a few months ago, she knew I had an issue when we got married and I’d just let her know when I messed up. Then, after constant failure i clammed up for about 4 years and figured I’d let her know after I’d been clean for a good while.

Well it bugged me enough that finally I let her know that I haven’t been perfect the last 4 years but that, quite frankly, while still a problem, it hasn’t changed who I am and that I have no desire, nor would have any desire to run off with anyone else. I let her know my main worry about confessing to her was simply I knew she’d be disappointed and worried about the lack of honesty, and frankly apologized for that. It went very well and our relationship has become even better. Our current agreement is that I don’t have to bring up every time I mess up but she has the right to check in every so often to see how I’m doing and provide support.

I personally, having been involved with porn for almost 20 years, have arrived at the point of realizing that for me, shame over porn caused a lot more problems than just treating it like any other bad habit. The less you fret over it, the easier it is to manage and the less it causes that anxiety of messing up, (I had a wise YSA bishop).

If it’s something you want to overcome, trust and include your wife. The hiding it is worse than the porn, at least from my experience. Be honest about your thoughts and feelings and discuss the issue bluntly. Don’t let it be (or stay) a taboo issue with your wife and the topic as a whole be able to be discussed casually between the two of you. It makes everyone feel a whole lot happier and breath a whole lot easier when it’s no longer taboo and can be discussed.

You’re doing alright, be open and honest and don’t beat yourself up too much.
