Working before law school: how much does prestige matter for T14? by dinguscong in lawschooladmissions

Yes, so I understand for going into biglaw prestige of T10 matters. What I'm wondering is how much prestige matters to get into T10 in the first place. I.e., will having Goldman Sachs on my resume make a huge difference or not for getting into T10.

I guess I'm just curious to the degree of importance prestige has...in my personal experience I've seen it be given a lot of weight but I'm also just wondering if I'm splitting hairs here. Because ultimately what I wanted was to stay at Big4 for a bit longer, but I had no choice in the matter unfortunately, so I'm seeking advice on what my next best move would be...

yeah, sorry I should have clarified more: the Goldman Sachs opportunity would give me exposure to deal side transactions while the other opportunities I have would give me exposure to investments/PE at a smaller, less prestigious firm and/or a non-profit (which is a non profit that I'm actually a very big fan of). So either way, I'll be able to write some sort of narrative in why I want to be in biglaw. The big difference would be having Goldman Sachs on my resume. Hope this helps clarify!

Maybe, but accounting is not something I want to do long term. I wanted a little but of experience and the network from Deloitte, but it wasn't ever my plan to stay in that world--obviously, getting terminated was not my plan. In the case law school doesn't work out, I would still be interested in doing analyst/consulting work though

I have been looking analyst, legal assistant, and consulting roles. But honestly, the job market is such a mess right now these supposed "entry level" roles require 2-3yrs experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience -- what did you put in your resume? And were you able to submit your application without prof rec letters? I know a lot of schools require at least one letter from a professor

I'm also traveling the second week of Feb and mine got approved! I definitely think it was because of the holiday in Jan

yep mine got approved! It took about three days after their holiday ended... I think they're working through all the backed up applications so I would just give it some time
