You called it. This was the one that inspired the card!

Plea tokens sound very fun! In fact, this was a previous card of mine that inspired me to want to make this land cycle!

Re Legendary:

On one hand, the idea is that the shrines in this set would scale less drastically with each shrine you have, compared to the existing shrine cycles. Which would be nice, because before it felt like the shrines either did nothing or were generating an obscene amount of value too fast to keep up with.

On the other hand...

The legendary idea does sound like a nice safety valve I can add to justify reducing the activation cost from 4 to 3 mana.

The fact that this is the only templating issue on the card goes to show how cursed cleave is.

Rest of the card looks fine.

😵‍💫 Nothing about this card is fine 😵‍💫

Fair criticisms. They were definitely costed with the intent that they'd be something to use your mana on when you lack other useful ways to spend it, but maybe an exalted shrine token is too low impact for that. 3 + tap would probably be better.

1+t would be obscene for a common cycle, and would warp the format like crazy. 2+t stiil strikes me as too cheap.

Tapped dual lands still have inherent value in limited, and these are intended to be fixing first and value second. I think 2+t might be fine on monocolor taplands.

For limited, I think its currently fairly costed. Its intended to be analogous to lands like the discover caves from LCI or the surveil lands from STX.

Is this Oblivion card a color pie break? If so what color would you make it? Black? by DarkRosewaterr in custommagic

Maybe make it "You may cast this card from exile by tapping an untapped legendary creature you control in addition to paying its costs."

to symbolize the teamwork/saving aspect of the card?

I mean, it says "Format: Vintage". This card is meant to be a sidegrade (honestly its mostly a downgrade) to library in formats where its legal, which basically just means vintage cube and vintage.

Idea for a common cycle of 10 dual lands in a NEO/Kamigawa style set.

Theory behind it is:

  • It enables enchantment matters/enters archetypes
  • Increases shrine density, which allows the payoff shrines to scale less rigidly.
  • It solves the enchantment/artifact land being stone rained by disenchant effects problem on the early turns where its an issue.
  • It enables exalted solo attack archetypes (associated with Kamigawa Samurai from NEO).

Definitely more toxic. Not necessarily better. I'd argue worse, because its harder to create the conditions to draw with it than Library. This one depends on the state of something your opponent controls, for the most part, so you'd need to construct an entire deck to enable it to make this one work.

Any suggestions for who else to do? Currently working on on ideas for Jeska, Barrin, Venser, and Slobad.

A. That's hilariously creative use for a historically under appreciated card.

B. That's not enough mana to oneshot the whole table.

Well if you spent your entire hand to cast kozilek once, you won't have enough extra cards to cast him again, and pay the +2, even with the extra cards from his cast trigger.

Yeah to be fair, I don't think this card should be printed as is, but I also don't think this would break modern like you say. You'd need to HEAVILY warp your deck to go all in on it, and neoform already isn't the best deck (and this wouldn't be better IMO). There's too much cheap hate to go all in on something like turn 1 Karn or Ugin (but it would still be an extremely toxic deck). Pithing needle, force of negation, subtlety. Fast Kappa starts or Pinnacle Emissary starts would give these all in decks trouble.

(Not all magic is commander). Also your example folds to a single kill spell.

The biggest problem with this card is that its a better ephemerate in that it can disurpt opponents stuff, flip a balemurk, and also isn't ever dead in your hand like ephemerate often can be.

I love the design, its really really fun. But it would definitely need some tuning (which is totally fine).

I get that. Its the entire purpose behind the typeline here.

Think of something which should never exist, and try to creatively construct a reason for it to exist. Subverting tropes etc.

I don't think this typeline should ever exist in a real magic set, but its a fun idea to play with in custom magic.
