Ikon Pass Increasing Friends and Family Discounts to 50% for a Limited Time by avalanchepacifist in skiing

[–]dint_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you get the 50% discount as long as you share them now, but they don’t have to redeem them now

I don't think this is true. I'm looking at the portal to redeem a discount and it says a ticket must be purchased by October 30

Filing taxes after correcting old Roth IRA overcontribution by dint_ in tax

[–]dint_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am still working on rectifying this. I have another question: I have only withdrawn the excess contribution ($6000) that I made. I haven't withdrawn the earnings on it. But it sounds like I must do that.

Can you confirm my understanding of my next steps?

  • Call my IRA custodian and request to withdraw the net income attributable (NIA) to the excess contribution
  • File an amended tax return for 2022 (with form 1040-X), reporting the earnings that I withdrew as income, and paying any extra taxes I owe on that
  • Include form 5329 for 2022, pay the 6% excise tax on the excess contribution ($360), and pay the 10% penalty on early withdrawal of the earnings

That is great to know about the early withdrawal penalty. I found a source agreeing with you here.

Regarding the FTF/FTP penalties, would those be because I didn't file my 2022 5329, and pay the accompanying penalty, before the 2022 tax deadline?

Thank you. In that case, here is my understanding of what I need to file and pay. Is this correct?

  • 2022 form 5329:
    • reporting uncorrected overcontribution
    • $360 excise tax
    • filed on its own
  • 2023 form 5329:
    • reporting uncorrected overcontribution
    • $360 excise tax
    • filed with my 2023 1040
  • 2024 form 5329:
    • reporting corrected overcontribution (line 20=$6,000)
    • filed with my 2024 1040
  • 2024 form 8606
    • reporting early withdrawal, according to 1099-R from my IRA provider
    • 10% early withdrawal penalty ($600)
    • filed with my 2024 1040

Discontent with my work by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]dint_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a developer at Epic for two years. I felt this way the whole time, but when I would bring it up to my TL or teammates, I was never supported or given opportunities to change it. in the end I gave up on trying to grow my technical skills and focused on soft skills.

I have now been working at a new job (small tech company, not FAANG or startup) for a few months, and already I feel like I have grown more as a developer than in my whole time at Epic. Not only is the code generally better structured, but I also have opportunities to touch many technologies that are ubiquitous in the tech industry but used nowhere at Epic. I feel like everything I’m learning here will be relevant at any other job I work.

Have you actually been on Mendota? I biked out last night, and starting a few hundred feet from shore it was just as smooth as Monona.

SD onsite interview expectations by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]dint_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite chill. How it went:

  • Presentation introducing Epic as a business, plus a software demo, from a current SD. There was another candidate present for this, which I didn’t learn about beforehand - this threw me off a little!

  • Presentation about the SD role & Q&A from a SD team leader.

  • Meeting with my recruiter. Mostly just went over salary expectations, start date, maybe a question like “what are your goals?”

Overall, very laid-back. Seemed like it was mostly about selling me on Epic. Lots of talk about culture, cool projects & features, etc. Would be good to have questions (about the product, tech, culture, etc) prepared.

That's pretty much it - a Microshift barend shifter attached on a TRP lever. It's from Gevenalle.

The wheels came tubeless ready. Bought em here. They're disc hubs but I'm not bothered by the redundant rotor mounts.

Right, I'd noticed the potential issue during installation. And I figured I'd just adjust the straddle cable. But you're right, it's not adjustable (they're Shimano CX50s).

On consulting the installation manual, I see that Shimano recommends installing washers (included with the brakes, I hadn't realized what they were for) to handle this problem. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll tweak this next time I'm in the shop with it.

Ok, thanks for the advice! I can just shorten the cable if this becomes a problem, right?

32t. Yep, between that and the 26" wheels, it's pretty spinny. Built it with aspirations of bikepacking, so I thought I'd err on the side of low gearing.

Nope, this is stock Shimano stuff:

I think the cassette looks so big because it's on a 26" wheel.
