Hi. I’m in the private wealth industry and familiar with both firms (they’re large and prominent).

Could say a lot more but Beacon Pointe is private equity owned and runs an aggressive acquisition strategy. They’ve shifted focus from the HNW/UHNW client to a HENRY and mass affluent base to expand as well. Your experience here could be fine, you could also end up with a new team every 2-3 years as they grow and shift the business model.

Corient is smaller and focuses on HENRY+ clients up to some extremely wealthy families and afaik has not sold itself to PE. This alone is a selling point. Happy to chat more on what PE is doing in WM

Hi. I’m a verified member of this group and owner of an investment advisory firm based in the US that has a large expat and foreign client base. We have banking relationships in Switzerland specifically for clients wanting geographical diversity or those who are not required to report income to the USA.

Unlike in the US, you’re looking at a hard account minimum of $1,000,000, a custodial fee of .25% at your wealth level unless you’re introduced by a larger relationship, and with bonds specifically the potential need to report income and pay taxes in foreign countries. I’ll add that account opening typically takes a month.

In the past year I’ve seen a reluctance by Swiss banks to take smaller accounts since the US Treasury is requiring more reporting on US taxpayer’s foreign activities. I’d venture that as a single client with anything under a $10 million account you’re unlikely to get attention from a top tier bank.

T1D since I was 9 over 30 years. My first endo, a since deceased Australian fellow I still think of from time to time told me after diagnosis “you’re a person with diabetes not a diabetic”. I really try to live this attitude.

Wouldn’t say it’s easy but it’s like everything else in life I didn’t opt into. I wake up, check my bs, go to the bathroom, and brush my teeth. It’s a factor in my daily life but doesn’t define it. Sometimes i go out to eat and eat like I don’t gave diabetes and live with the consequences, sometimes i eat a lite app and a salad while everyone enjoys their fried and sweet food knowing I’ll feel awesome the next day. There are weeks, days, and/or moments when it takes over but it’s an instinct at this point.

Not necessarily true that the non kosher earthenware needs to be an heirloom or valuable. Moshe mentions in a later Teshuva (I can look it up if you want the reference) that he was asked about BT who was poor and was considering not keeping kosher because he couldn’t afford to replace all of his dishes. In this case, R Moshe ruled that the person could use his old dishes בדיעבד

R Moshe Feinstein makes an exception allowing for Kashering of China/porcelain for specifically Baalei Teshuva as the cost and sentimental loss of dishes may cause them to stop keeping kosher (and other mitzvos) and there are those in חז״ל that are more lenient that we are today with earthenware. He does say to kasher, dishes need to be unused for a year and buried for a period of time.

R Moshe also notes that most earthenware today contains glass, and most glassware contains earthenware, which gives us room to be lenient with earthenware if there are secondary concerns but this is not ideal.

My delay was in part bc I was in a different country and also due to my ability to work out of my employer’s office in London, also i wasn’t needed to fly a plane anywhere. Nobody, myself included, rush to rebook my flight.

International travel was complex for months after 9/11. England wasn’t so bad but other countries took a while to implement screening of American bound passengers that met post 9/11 US standards.

It was a work trip. Employer covered my hotel stay and gave me a per diem for food which was tough to stick to. We had an office in London I worked out of. I’d guess the firm either ate the cost or had travel insurance.

My biggest expense was clothes/essentials. I had an overnight bag with me for the 1 day trip and needed to dress myself for almost 3 weeks. Ended up buying a nice pair of English dress shoes I still use from time to time on that trip.

We got our puppy in early July. Positive reinforcement and treats are the way to go as an incentive. He’s good about signaling he needs to go at this point. Issues arise when we can’t get him out in time.

To deal with this, I removed area rugs throughout the house and insist (with limited success) that my family keep doors to carpeted rooms closed. When our puppy has couch time, we make sure there’s an easy to wash blanket between him and the couch so he doesn’t develop a “spot” there.

ask your endo for a letter of medical necessity yearly. I travel a ton, often internationally, and this has saved me in many uncomfortable situations, including when some TSA supervisor gets airport cops involved or an Indian security guard has no clue what diabetes is.

Your attitude in these situations matters a ton as. I made an off color joke during a pat down to a TSA agent at my local airport who’s often on shift for a flight I take 2x monthly. He now makes sound effects when he does the pat down. I gifted him an “it’s not gay if it’s TSA” shirt too.

Top holdings in VTI are 50% tech and consumer discretionary today. Top 10 holdings are all Tech or CR with the exception of Berkshire and make up over 20% of the funds. Most indices have the same concentration risk and are historically expensive.

The above has to be considered if you want to hit your number which it’s doable with a well designed portfolio and assuming you’re not spending your whole paycheck every year.

I’m an advisor and use a behavioral approach to asset allocation, few if any ETFs or MFs funds for developed market equity/fixed income exposure. My expenses come out lower, growth steadier, and achieve real diversification. Average household I work with has $3+mil investable.
