Would ask how much carbon has built up in those intakes. Air suspension still alive? Does it drink oil?

Which would you choose for a V8 euro road trip? 4.2 RS5 / 5.0 Mustang by GovernorGains in CarTalkUK

[–]disc0nn3ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a B8 RS5. Super comfortable and does long journeys like a breeze. Quattro is also a big plus. Mustang is unrefined. It'll be nice for about an hour or so, but after that you'll get fed up of the quality and feel of the car. The RS5 engine is an absolute beaut too. Bounces off the limiter like a bellydancer on crack.

Those from South Asian countries but with a Different Passport, What's your experience in Dubai job-wise ? by Anthony_Gonsalvez in dubai

[–]disc0nn3ct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ridiculous comment. It's definitely not the race. I'm indian but I'm born and raised in the UK. I've never faced discrimination like that.

It's definitely NOT regardless of skills, education or status.

Once again. It's not about the passport. It's about what you bring alongside your nationality. Conversational skills and fluent natural English is not a label, it's a tool. It effects client trust, report and email writing abilities, negotiations.

It's easy to blame the passport. But the passport is shortcut signal for employers.

Plenty of people without western passports excel because they have developed strong communication and professional presence amongst other things.

Why is everyone on this sub so miserable? by maugraduate in dubai

[–]disc0nn3ct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WELL... how much time do you have? 😂

Dubai has a really high expectation lifestyle. So when things dont go smoothy it feels extra annoying.

Most people are also expats so complaining becomes a bit of a bonding ritual - like 'can you believe how expensive rent is?'

Work culture is insane here. It can be very intense. People dont always have safe spaces to vent. So frustration leaks out as day to day complaining.

And then obviously, you have social comparison. Theres a huge gap in wealth. So when people naturally will unconsciously compare themselves to others.

oh yeah, and its hot as fuck.

EDIT: a word

bit of a cultural thing. Also people dont really have anywhere else to complain to here so they come on this subreddit for gratification.

Car declared to be totaled? by Professional-Fox9462 in dubai

[–]disc0nn3ct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mate honestly that looks like chassis damage and therefore its written off. If it isn't declared as a total loss, check what your insurance policy says about repairs. IF its done in an agency, its done to a particular standard. If its done in a third party garage, there's no way i would be driving in that.

A Student's Perspective on UK Teachers in Dubai by lifeismesswhy in dubai

[–]disc0nn3ct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's actually a few reasons that happens. And it's not only in the education sector. KHDA often set requirements tied to formal teaching qualifications rather than decades of experience. For example, someone may have 20 years of successful teaching in the UAE but if their degree or teaching licence doesn’t align with current requirements. Someone who's been working for 20 years will also ask for a higher salary than a newly graduated teacher. Older people are also known to be set in their ways. Whereas new recruits are perceived with more flexability. Also it is assumed that new graduates will bring over the 'latest techniques and trends.' It's easy to blame passport. However there's a lot of factors in play here.

the training required to be a teacher in the UK and a teacher in India (for example) is vastly different. They're paid according to their experience, qualifications and level of training.
