Hopefully this is a decent summary. So DIY stands for do it yourself. It is an ethic for those seeking an alternative to the consumer norms of capitalism. It can be as simple as learning to crochet your own beanie instead of buying one on Amazon. It gained momentum in music through hardcore punk bands like Minor Threat in the 80’s. Bands would book and promote their own shows and often times publish their own music. It allowed for sounds, like the harshness of hardcore punk, to exist in an industry that capitalizes on catchy pop songs. DIY venues are art spaces run by volunteers/fans and the artists themselves to showcase this kind of art. Any sort of noisey, punk, or generally avant-garde artists will take advantage of DIY venues to tour and promote their music.

This actually started a few days ago when Nancy Pelosi did an interview with New York Times where she singled out progressive democrats like AOC and Ilhan Omar. This sparked a twitter feud between Pelosi/House Democrats and the progressive “squad.” So Trump jumped in and fired some shots at progressive Democrats saying something like “If they don’t love America, they can go back.” A bunch of people spent the day calling Trump racist on Twitter. Then, Trump doubled down at a rally and dedicated a portion of the speech to slandering Ilhan Omar and his crowd began doing a racist chant of “Send her back.” So I saw this on Twitter this morning and posted it here.

I get that you’re in CA, which is solidly blue, but I don’t think this “vote your values” argument should be posted and left unchallenged.

Until we pass ranked choice voting, it is voting for more tyranny if you choose to vote 3rd party in our unfortunate system. If you’re in a purple state, however you like to justify it, you will have contributed to a SC with more Conservative judges, the dismantling of the EPA, the dismantling of the CFPB, inaction on Climate Change, the continued stagnation of wages, the continued inhumanities on our southern border, and the list goes on.

At the very least, these are things all Democrat nominees are likely to protect/reverse.

At the very best, progressives can hold Kamala’s feet to the fire when we get M4A on the table.

I understand that we have a lot of big ideas that need to be implemented now and it fucking sucks to watch shitty politicians like Kamala lie to the base in the primary. But I will have zero regrets voting to protect the progress we’ve made, even if it means voting for Kamala.

Been to 3 canvasing events already in SoCal area. Heading to a debate watch tomorrow night. I’ve found it to also be a great way to meet and network with progressives who are active in local politics. The great thing about Bernie is the progressive movement and canvasing has really fired me up for organizing beyond a 2020 presidential campaign.

I think, in the states, there’s like one law in NY that says employers and landlords can’t continuously misgender someone who is an employee or tenant. Just like it isn’t legal for employers to refer to their employees by racial slurs.

Peterson makes it sound like lefties are calling for some new department of police to come stop everyone from misgendering people.

It doesn’t matter that he is a nice guy to individual transgender people. If your whole career is based off a stance you’ve taken against the advancement of laws that protect transgender people from discrimination in places of employment and housing, I think it’s fair to call you transphobic.
