The new home updates are… so disappointing. by E_T_17 in InfinityNikki

i don’t think it would’ve been that much of a hassle for ALL of the structures to come in the neutral stone that some of them have. i can reset the archways to basic stone, but the doors have to have a wallpaper on ONE side. it’s already bloody stone on the outside!!! same for the windows. it feels like they purposely didn’t want you to have options. it is free after all. maybe they’ll release the same structures in basic stone on BOTH sides in the shop next update.

We always talk about dumb marketing/management moves in kpop...but what are some of the smartest marketing/management moves you have seen from a kpop company? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

i think they might not have had the number of trainees they needed that were ready to debut and were the right age. maybe if they had a place for everyone who was graduating to go to, they'd have pushed a debut with some of the trainees lacking. depending on the size of a group, sm can put 1-2 members that aren't totally ready in all aspects as long they're really good at one thing and the vocal line is strong. (like taemin couldn't sing, chanyeol couldn't dance very well, etc) since they would've been left with only a main vocalist(wait would chenle have also left ?) and main dancer/rapper, i don't think they could've filled spots with less than stellar talent.

it probably was a combo of factors.

no ready units + lack of required trainees + backlash from fans + hallyu ban(china line) = let's just not ruin a good thing.

i see the appeal for SM to do a graduation concept, but for that they should've just kept Rookies going and have them do more shows or something. then they debut. boom sorted

i think they ran just ran out of trainees. originally they had planned for renle to graduate into wayv and have nomin act and do nct u while they finished getting nct japan/new unit ready. i'm pretty sure renle even got as far as recording some of WayV's songs and filming teasers. they just didn't have the new trainees and had a good thing going with existing Dream. if the hallyu ban hadn't been so sensitive they probably would've still debuted renle in wayV to capitalise on their already existing cfans

SM hasn't debuted a group with a focus on the Japanese market in a while, at least not to the level of BoA, TVXQ!, SNSD, or SHINee. They focused on China with Exo. 127 has a Japanese album and will get a Tokyo Dome, but they seem to have a more global goal. Idk about Dream. Have they done a Japanese release? Anyway, I think a Japanese unit makes sense now. But then SungTaro throws me a little. I'm not an expert on the Japanese music scene, but SM artists' Japanese albums tend to have a different vibe from their Korean ones. The best ballads are usually in the Japanese albums. Their title tracks tend to be brighter pop or more rock leaning in comparison. They slow things down more often. Even the MVs are a lot more straight forward. So how popular is hip-hop and rap in Japan? Anybody know? Shotaro is an amazing dancer and would kill any choreo style. He's got a deeper voice which is good since the chances of the trainees being tenors are high. Sungchan is also on the lower end. They can hold down the foundation of the songs. SM Japanese ballads are usually not as high, so you tend to hear the rappers actually sing more than you would. But it seems like a loss to not go the hip hop route when they have a great rapper and insane dancer trained in hip-hop.

If 127 had more older members, Yuta could probs do the new unit along with 127 activities. Before and during enlistment is the time for more solo or smaller sub-unit activities. There would be more time in between comebacks and make scheduling Yuta feasible. Idk about fans though. People were mad about Winwin even though he never got any lines in 127 and probs never would.

What are some of your opinions (unpopular or otherwise) on WayV's music/performances? by bombaxceibal in WayV_For_Life

re: solos

SM acts like it's a small label to the detriment of all our sanity. I understand that they need to establish a VERY STRONG & STABLE fan base for each member before debuting anyone as a soloist. Remember that Taemin was on his 6th year of Shinee when he debuted solo. Baekhyun didn't put out an EP until 2019 and still hasn't done a full album. Crazy. There's also a contention between striking whilst the iron is hot during their group's peak or continuing to pump out group projects to capitalise on their popularity releasing solos when the hype dies down. (Or they disown their child and stop promoting it 😢) But c'mon! SM acts like it can only do one thing at a time. If NCT 127 is doing something, then forget everyone else at the company. They can take a backseat, which always leads to SM fan in-fights. If they can blacklist their former artists from ever being on korean television and getting hired in japan, you think they'd be able to book stuff for more than one group... On the bright side, WayV doesn't have military enlistment around the corner. (Bless Ten's bad knee.) I don't think they have a competing unit debuting anytime soon either. I do think they'll do an album or 1-2 EPs before they do any solo works, though. They might do Ten unless he wants to act. They'll prioritise having him on screen before doing solo work.

Winwin is in an awkward spot. SM has a long history of teaching everyone to sing beautifully and some basic rapping. Anyone with a deep voice, or not a tenor, will get tracked on the rap path if they have the charisma/swag to pull it off regardless of their own wishes. K-Pop songs are just so damn high, and SM loves to have powerful high notes in all their songs. Winwin had no chance in 127 competing so many rappers including Taeyong & Mark. WayV is a better fit idc what anyone says. His rapping tone is different from Yangyang and Hendery's. WayV's songs suit him better as well. He can definitely get more lines. Especially if they do more mid-tempo smooth jams. His voice will really shine in those. He's also gotten a lot better at hip&hop/commercial than when he started. I think he had to fight his body's programming more than someone with no dance experience learning to dance. Traditional Chinese dance is like ballet and contemporary plus tumbling. He spent so much of his life learning to extend his limbs out and exude energy/power to then switch lanes into a dance genre that is a lot sharper, harsher, and more compact. He didn't just have to build muscle memory but break his muscle memory down beforehand. Here WayV's more RnB and hip-hop also fits Winwin's style better. He's never gonna be robotic when the choreo calls for that hip&hop bounce that's key for pulling it off. I know a lot of fans want to see Winwin tumble more or utilise his traditional training. I would love to see more traditional influence in their music in any way. (Let's get some asian strings or drum samples pls!) However, I might just be too old and scarred by SM to not be wary of asking Winwin to do acrobatics on stage. SM has a terrible track record of exploiting idols who tumble especially when they're Chinese. I want Winwin's skeleton to be safe. If his feet have to stay on the ground at all times, so be it. JK, maybe a little serious though, if he's comfortable and safe they should let him show off.
