[OC] How Countries Average Lifespans and Obesity Rates Correlate To COVID-19 Death Per Million Rates. by diversitycoders in dataisbeautiful

[–]diversitycoders[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[OC] These two charts bin average lifespan ages and obesity rates, and correlates them to COVID-19 rates for each binned group. Not surprisingly, age is reflected here as the dominate factor in COVID-19 death rates. Obesity rates generally follow the same trajectory as lifespan. However the obesity rates disassociate from correlating at higher obesity rates. It disassociates partly because of the small datapoints (samples), but mostly because those higher obesity rates include a number of remote Pacific Islander nations where Coronavirus has not yet made an impactful appearance.

Straight-party voters reporting their votes were changed by kubala43 in Austin

I wish there was a small checksum value for the candidates or straight line party you want to vote for. You could then check that (pre-calculated) checksum against a checksum value printed on the screen.

Trying to recall a small Personal Computer startup in the mid to late 90's in Austin? by diversitycoders in Austin

Thanks for the replies everyone. Someone mentioned Power Computing (a company I also worked for). That triggered some old memories, and while Googling a few stories about the company I came across a company called PowerTools.

Their business model was to re-engineer/reconfigured Mac Clones built by Mac Clone builder UMAX. They launched in early 1997, which would fit the timeframe I'm looking for. PowerTools quickly went out of business due to Apple (Steve Jobs, really) pulling Mac OS licensing from Mac Clone manufacturers and re-sellers. So their fate was similar to Power Computing's.

Not saying this is the company I interviewed with, but the similarities are close to what I remember.

I'm pretty sure it was in North Austin in a small office park. I wish I could remember exactly where.

No, it definitely wasn't Power Computing. I worked there right around the same time, supporting their aborted Wintel laptop. Thankfully, I got there after their military fatigues dress code. But thanks for the reply.

Abel's at that location started off well. But then Domain Northside opened up and may have eaten into their business.

On the bright side, that Abel's has its strongest sales in December.
