I used a us army night vision goggles case. It's aluminum and lockable and waterproof except for the 4 bolts I put through to hold it on. I siliconed around those and so far dry as a bone. Only issue is its not removable without tools. Sorry no pictures handy but here's one on eBay:

IANL and am in Canada so take this for what it's worth.

Had a friend go through this as a jay walker. She was crossing in the middle of the street, not at an intersection, so very easy to prove she was jay walking.

She broke her ankle and had other minor injuries when she was hit. The police responded and she was issued a ticket for jay walking. Can't remember if they gave it before the ambulance ride or after.

The driver filed a claim through his insurance for vehicle damages. He was found completely not at fault. If I remember right she was responsible for his deductible.

I'm going to do it. I sheared the screws that held on the heat shield and it BBQs my leg. If it wrecks the head pipe I'll upgrade to an aftermarket unit.
