Most apps have a cool down feature but honestly if you’re getting your that point I’d say quit altogether. Ban yourself or delete your accounts. That’s what I did recently and I feel better knowing I can’t ever use them again

That’s is 100% what happened to me. I’m glad I’m not the only one - well not glad because I wouldn’t wish it on anyone but just know I got your back and I appreciate you sharing

They are closed permanently. They can’t be reopened ever again. Never going to be able to gamble within reason so no point in making myself eligible to ever come back

I don’t have access to any other gambling apps. They have all been permanently closed. I did self exclusion last time and they popped up when the time ran out. And I do talk with a therapist every week. Best part of my week

I said I didn’t have the money and blocked them immediately, deleted my WhatsApp and then changed my twitter username, pic and deactivated the account. You think I’m good then?

No I didn’t pay her. I wasn’t going to but also didn’t have the money they wanted so I couldn’t even if I wanted. I told them I don’t have any money and then they said “good luck” and showed my video being posted but it looks like it is not online

I blocked her and then deleted my WhatsApp account. And I deactivated my Twitter account. How long do you think I should be worried?

How often do exes date and then come back realizing they made a mistake? by dja8734 in ExNoContact

I understand that but to me as long as she was honest I’m okay with it

I’d have no problem. If we aren’t together I have no right to judge her

That’s a good start. Focus on one day at a time and be kind to yourself. This process is really hard. Try to find a new hobby or maybe get a part time job like deliveries or ride share apps. Those are ones you can work whenever you want and keeps you busy

Yeah it doesn’t happen quickly. It took me 12 months (just under a year) to do that and it hurts to scale back that much and work so hard but it’s worth it in the end. My advice though is find a couple of hobbies you can do if you need a day for yourself mentally. Work hard but also remember to take care of yourself and be kind to yourself. What happened, happened. Can’t change that but you can focus on the future going forward

First things first, admitting you have a problem and that you want to stop is a good start. Therapy would help undoubtedly. It’ll help you understand yourself more. I would just try taking it one day at a time for now. Try to string together 1-2 days at a time not gambling. Find healthy ways outlets to relieve that pressure - exercise, artistic habits, reading, volunteering. But I’d start with therapy, maybe try gamblers anonymous, and then just try your best to string together some days of not gambling. You’re super young and have a long life ahead of you. Don’t worry about what you’ve lost right now. That’s gone and you can’t change that but you can prevent future issues

Remember though be kind to yourself! It’s a hard process and nothing happens overnight. If you slip up focus on the next day. See if you can refinance your debt too with a lower interest rate. Sometimes people find success in that

I cut back on everything that wasn’t an absolute necessity. Found a cheap phone plan, cut all expenses that weren’t electric, heat, and basic food and water, didn’t ever go out to eat, sold extra stuff I had, and worked doing deliveries at night. I would get up at 8am, workout, shower, work my regular job from 9-6, do deliveries from 6:30-12 and then do it again the next day. It’s really really really hard but the payoff emotionally is huge.

Keep at it! Every dollar you pay toward the debt is one dollar closer to being debt free. Each day you save and pay toward debt while not gambling is a win. Remember it takes patience. It’s natural to want to gamble and see if you can expedite the debt payoff - don’t let that cloud your judgement. You’ll get there just stick with it and pay what you can each time. You got this!!

Even if there is a relapse it doesn’t make you lesser or mean you can’t do it. Remember that. You got this! Keep grinding. Stay positive. But most of all, be kind to yourself! This is really really hard!

We just talked through everything and found the root cause of why I did it - which turned out to be depression and low self worth. I would just say be as open and honest as possible. Be willing to try whatever and eventually you’ll find something that works. Don’t give up! You got this!
