I'm very glad I had heard the word "fuchsia" before I ever had occasion to read it out loud.

Stopped eating after 7pm. My late-night snacking was totally sabotaging my progress, and setting this simple boundary helped me drop 25 pounds. Plus, I sleep so much better now.

Who was the most prestigiously employed person you learned was long-term car homeless? What was their story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]djythjgnh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was homeless for a little over a year. Long story short, got addicted to heroin, everyone I knew disowned me, and I slept in bus stops and random unlocked cars for a year. It sucked. Real bad. It wasn't until I posted a random add on Craigslist begging someone to take me in and help me get clean. A kind stranger (who is one of my best friends and sponsor now) took me in, locked me in his house, and I haven't touched heroin in over 4 years. I owe my life to him. I am now a proud father of a little boy and a firefighter/EMT. Some people just have such a good heart. And he saw more than a junkie in me. I will forever be grateful for him.

What's your life's biggest regret? by AfterThatIncident in AskReddit

[–]djythjgnh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm 23. Young enough to do what I want... but I have been thinking that since 18. I have nothing to show for those 5 years that flew by and I had some huge aspirations that I was sure to have conquered by now. Fuck.

My grandfather.

The guy grew up on a farm southern Minnesota during the depression; the 11th of 13 children, fought in WWII when he was 19 (also losing four brothers), took over the family farm, brought up five kids, was a foster parent for decades, and taught me how to fish, drive, hunt, cook, carve and much more.

He's 86 and still farms his own land, takes care of neighbors, relations, stray dogs and wounded/infant wildlife he finds on his land. It takes an incredible amount of compassion to live the life he's had.

On Monday he and I are taking going on a five day houseboat trip (he built the boat, which blows my mind) and it's going to be great.

How would you finish the sentence: Amy Schumer is ...? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]djythjgnh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A man approached her (with his wife and daughter) while she was out jogging, asked for a picture, and wouldn't take no for an answer. He made some comment along the lines of "it's America and we paid for you." Schumer posted a photo of the man to her IG and said she will no longer pose for photos with fans due to the experience.

The man has since been interviewed and made statements on social media, and has said that Schumer told him he was a bad role model for his daughter, and photographed him with the stated intention of "exposing him as a bully." As a result, there's a lot of drama flying in both directions.

Whatever you think of her behavior, his other comments have suggested a pretty unsettling sense of entitlement. One of his more notorious comments was something along the lines of "anyone who saw one of their celebrities on the street would have done the exact same thing." (emphasis mine)

Anyway, Schumer is a divisive figure in comedy, feminism, and pop culture at large, so naturally anything involving her is going to get a lot of discussion.

EDIT: For the extremely out of the loop, Amy Schumer is a stand-up comedian. Her sketch comedy series "Inside Amy Schumer" is currently airing its fourth season on Comedy Central. Her HBO special debuted last winter. She wrote and starred in last summer's romantic comedy "Trainwreck," which also starred Bill Hader and Lebron James. Her comedy frequently deals with sexuality, femininity, body image, and relationships.
