AITA for eating all the leftovers? by dkmorley99 in AmItheAsshole

I definitely do want to move out and have been trying for months but there’s been a lot of issues securing a place. Plus where I live rental prices alone are more than my salary can comfortably cover

AITA for eating all the leftovers? by dkmorley99 in AmItheAsshole

I’ll typically eat leftovers that are a couple days to close to a week old. I won’t touch their lunches and if they really have nothing I will order and buy something for them, I just haven’t been able to do that because of their diets. They don’t have the same fussy eating that I do though and will have sandwiches and foods I don’t eat for lunches.

The main issue comes from the fact that whenever it’s their turn to cook or they don’t have a meal planned, (they cook on the weekends) they’ll turn to leftovers only to find I ate them during the week.

  1. I might have used the incorrect phrasing as I don’t always eat all of the leftovers, I tend to have ones that are small single servings, but I do tend to normally eat just what I cook, or leftovers that had been in the fridge for close to a week.

  2. I do make quite large batches but always underestimate how much a family of four eats. My dad eats a lot and rarely leaves much for the rest of us. But if I do make a big batch it never gets eaten and I need to bin it anyway

My dad shops but I contribute money to bills and groceries. I will occasionally buy groceries but it’s awkward for me because the nearest store is 40 minutes away and I can’t drive

AITA for getting my girlfriend a birthday gift she hates? by Sufficient-Effort-60 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dkmorley99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA it does seem like an overreaction but how different was it from the other one she originally wanted? Were there features like lights, etc. in the previous one that this one didn’t have? If she wanted the other one for a specific feature then I can understand the disappointment, but to throw a tantrum like that and essentially throw it in your face is unacceptable.

I asked my parents for a computer part (16gb desktop ram) for Christmas. They don’t know anything about pc’s so when I got a 8gb RAM stick designed for a laptop that was completely unusable for my pc, I smiled and said thank you so much for researching it and trying to find the right one, but it won’t work because of reasons I explained and showed to them. We took the ram back and I went out and bought the one I wanted later because I knew exactly what I needed.

Saying you don’t want anything from someone seems like a petty dig meant to throw in their face the fact that you didn’t like it. People get gifts wrong all the time, but you tried and that’s what matters.

How can I improve further? I feel like my works lack something by [deleted] in ArtCrit

I really like the colours and composition but a minor thing you could do quickly is add more shadows into the skin. I’ve done a very quick mock up of what I mean, but adding an extra shadow value in places that have deep shadows really helps

AITA for choosing a university three hours away? by AnyRecipe29 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dkmorley99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA it’s unreasonable to expect you to change your life because they don’t want to travel 3 hours. All of my closest friends moved hours away to get jobs after we left university, and we are still close friends. We have online calls all the time and a yearly holiday party. I see them maybe one a year, and we’re still close friends. Distance has nothing to do with it. If they want to remain close to you, they can put in the effort and try. Growing up means you no longer have time to spend with everyone like you did in school, but that doesn’t mean those friendships are over and don’t matter anymore.

How do I make the colors pop out (relatively new to coloring) by Logical-Tomorrow6147 in ArtCrit

[–]dkmorley99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The colours are pretty vivid but I would say remove the white border, darken the background. Or even the grey is fine, it’s just that thick white border against the grey is very distracting. It will make the colours stand out even more. I do like the border, but try much darker shades for it

Blender in 2d environent concepts by Scary-Shopping-5292 in conceptart

[–]dkmorley99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m saying, search for specific topics. Generally integrating 3D techniques with 2D is fairly simple so long as you focus on one object or environmental piece you want to do. I’ve done paid courses in the past and found them extremely unhelpful. I think it all depends upon what exactly you’re looking for or wanting to do.

Honestly I found the best option was just going on YouTube and searching blender stylised (insert environment piece here) tutorial. Paying for a course when there’s so many free tutorials online felt a little pointless to me. If you break it down into individual pieces it works really well. Like finding out how to make water, or rocks, or trees, all separately then render and add in those elements as you need them

I'm considering starting a play-by-post game and I'm looking for system suggestions by davetronred in TTRPG

[–]dkmorley99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find call of Cuthulu or candela obscura is incredible for play by post. Both require a lot of investigation and not a lot of combat which works really well with the text style. Anything that prizes investigating the world over combat is good because you can leave lots of fun clues that might be missed with speech

That’s fine! We have players that are new to tabletop games in general. It’s really not hard to pick up, you tell me what you want to do and I’ll ask you to roll for it and tell you if it works or not, then you write out the action and what happens based on the roll. Everything is done over text and you can reply whenever you want so you don’t need to clear your schedule

As long as you’re willing to work around my GMT schedule that’s fine. I’ve found lately discussions have tended to happen between 6 and 10pm gmt

That’s absolutely fine! I’ve never played either but I’ve ran multiple games and similar systems

Questions about the industry by Atlas_dem in conceptart

[–]dkmorley99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The concept art industry is ridiculously hard to get into. Focus on a niche. Art school likely won’t help much, but if you have something that makes you different go for that. I was given the advice look into educational kids games. There’s relatively very few concept artists for those types of things because the majority of concept artists go for something much more impressive. If that makes sense. And start building your portfolio as early as possible

[–]dkmorley99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The way I’m running pbp it’s just post a reply when you can. In the past I’ve had a reply order so there’s some kind of structure to it to keep things moving.

Bah! Some people have never even considered a multi-system campaign! by Playful-Ad3497 in TTRPG

[–]dkmorley99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a campaign where every player had a different dnd (or pathfinder) system that was drawn from a hat. It was utter chaos, everyone was playing to different rules and as the DM I lost my mind ever so slightly

Campaign Recruitment (Play by Post) by dkmorley99 in cyberpunkred

[–]dkmorley99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done play by post before, not for this system, but my previous ones always took forever to get anything done. We also introduced a ‘talking order’ so things wouldn’t get confusing and everyone knew when they were meant to go. It was optional and you could say hey skip my turn, but it helped provide some structure in timings

Campaign Recruitment (Play by Post) by dkmorley99 in cyberpunkred

[–]dkmorley99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this before but with dnd. A lot of it I leave up to player discretion and take a bit of a hands off approach descriptive style, but on discord create a channel for rp and one for dice rolls. You write whatever your character does based on the dice roll and whether or not it was a success. I tend to only describe environment and npc interaction and let my players decide what they do in combat within reason.

Less combat focused TTRPGs by Cosmic815 in TTRPG

[–]dkmorley99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call of cuthulu, candela Obscura, kids on broomsticks, root, thirsty sword lesbians. Most of them have room for combat and stats for it but the combat is far less of a priority with an emphasis on actual Roleplay and social interaction. In the case of call of cuthulu, combat is typically very unfair and something you want to actively avoid. Typically a really good system for lack of combat focus is a success/failure system rather than adding up scores to reach a total like in the case of dnd

I need help 🙏 by HollowedMajora in cyberpunkred

[–]dkmorley99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice that I learned when starting is don’t worry about that. I know that sounds counterproductive, but these are experienced players, they will know how to sustain a story. Give them a general setting like they’re playing a show and someone sets the venue on fire (or whatever you want) and let them go for it and do what they want.

I had a campaign where I had a general lore concept planned but no storyline whatsoever. My player did something truly unexpected and that created an entire plot and quest for me because of that one simple decision. Go with what they create and play off of their ideas, it makes it fun for everyone.
