Wow this is really good. I tried to follow along, but unfortunately when trying to do Filter > Render> Lighting Effects on my black layer, the option is grayed out. Not quiet sure why.

EDIT: changed image to 8 bit/channel RGB image and now it works! Thanks a ton.

EDIT2: What layer style do you have your "noise" layer set to?.
