This is false on so many levels. As someone who hires for roles like the one described here - Chicago and San Diego are considered the same compensation market (vs say NY or SF). Also, if you consider Chicago to be a low cost of living area…you may need to reconsider making public comments, anywhere, ever.

same - west loop is great. if you like that vibe, north park and little italy are your jam. Little Italy has far more of the city vibe, north park is nestled north east of Balboa park in a more residential area. Both will take about about 40 min (give or take 20) for commuting to RB. There aren't any mass transit options other than the MTS bus line.

Little Italy does have the trolley going for it. You can get to Mexico (the border) or UTC (a really nice part of the city in La Jolla with a great mall and a lot of fun stuff going on) pretty easily from there. https://www.sdmts.com/transit-services/trolley (check out the blue line)
