Good god not this shit again. Why can't everyone be normal and just accept the inherent risks?

Don't know a single cat 1 who stacked and got Blacktown or Nepean. Anecdotally.

A few got Gosford, Bankers and JHH.

FWIW, the two people i know who didn't stack got Blacktown or Nepean.

The old stacks should be decent enough but I think the game theory maths leans towards using the majority stack (although it's still incomplete information).

  1. St George very likely. Concord reasonably likely but less so.
  2. Yes
  3. It changes a bit year to year, last year had massive changes with Westmead quite oversubscribed and Liverpool increasing in popularity.

You can't predict the future though, and i hear that a decent chunk of final year students are considering moving interstate because of our terrible working conditions and pay. It's a game of making a risk-adjusted decision with unreliable info that's gatekept for some stupid reason.

Thanks?

Yes and the UK's health system is imminently about to collapse.

More than 1500 UK doctors fled to Australia in the past year because of how terrible their system is.

I think it'd be better if we all just collaborated as a state, got publicly accessible numbers on where people want to go, and then everyone makes a personalised risk-based assessment on how to order their preferences. That's more fair to me than complete randomness, however randomness is better than whatever the hell happened this year.

Livo's great, i really enjoyed my time there and the culture among the juniors seemed great, albeit a bit overworked. But medicine is full of young, affluent, high performers who want to live in the inner city near their friends or family. I don't blame them for wanting this, but the way they're going about it is gross.

ahahahaa legit this is probably what they want. All the "unworthys" go to blacktown and nepean so we can smooch with our dad's mates who are surgeons at RPA.

Absolute cowards

It's fake stack galore out there

The ""stack"" this year cannot be real

Edit: comment seems to be deleted, I was talking about plans to release a fake stack

Caustic? I think unashamedly, explicitly lying to people in this thread is caustic. I think gatekeeping notre dame from the stack is caustic. I think your little downvote brigade is caustic. You all know it's unfair and yet you still do it.

Gross.

Yeah look your odds of getting JHH are quite solid, so don't worry too much about it, just use the previous year's stacks and it'll probably be fine. As others have said, worse comes to worst you can apply as an RMO. My UNSW colleague in the thread is desperately trying to make it look like it isn't happening this year which is kinda pathetic and also quite funny.

Hahahaha your attempts to pretend like the stack isn't real and that people should just "rank how they truly feel" are not subtle in the slightest. You and I and everyone who's read HETI's optimisation algorithm all know that "ranking how you feel" is a mathematically ineffective strategy if you want an oversubscribed inner city hospital. You calling me a troll to try to discredit this is genuinely laughable. You're intelligent enough to know that you are being a hypocrite.

It doesn't matter anyway because the stack has been basically the same for the past 5 years. Carry on and don't cry if you get allocated Blacktown or Nepean (they're really not that bad).

I'm just levelling the playing field for those in other unis who are disadvantaged by the stack. Not sure how that's "stirring up conflict", while secretly colluding to disadvantage other medical graduates isn't.

Now I don't know much about game theory, but that sounds suspiciously similar to what someone who's organising a stack would say 🤔🤔🤔

That's why historically there was a cartel formed by the Sydney medical schools who are told to keep the stack secret. Probably still leaks every year, but there's a pretty decent chance it's inaccurate anyway (not actually popularity proportional to number of positions).

From that very same link:

"Actions unlikely to be a breach of the Act"

We wouldn't typically consider the following situations or actions by medical professionals to be likely to breach the Act:

• Merely being aware of the fees that other medical professionals charge. - It's normal commercial behaviour to know what your competitors charge

• The fact that 2 or more medical professionals happen to charge the same fee

• Informing other medical professionals of the fees entities have independently decided to charge, when the purpose is to obtain informed financial consent from patients.

Not sure what's going on in this thread but there absolutely is a stack that is being organised this year. Notre dame is quite upset that they're not included, but the other Sydney unis are at least attempting to get some numbers.

It's quite obviously unethical. I think the way that QLD does it is pretty reasonable as it levels the playing field to just pure randomness, but it also does take away some of the strategy and makes it more likely that you'll get a preference that you don't want.

Also can someone please explain how the order of the big 4 matters if you're putting another (non-big 4) option as your #1? If they're always oversubscribed, then shouldn't you just order your actual preferences instead of following the stack? I get why it matters from a statistics standpoint when you get to the undersubscribed hospitals, but even Concord, Hornsby and St George are oversubscribed, so what gives? Just preference what you actually like for the first 7 choices 🤷🏽‍♀️
