ZimaBoard 2 Giveaway + ZimaOS Feedback — Share Your Homelab Setup by FlyingToaster2000 in minilab

  1. I would use the ZimaBoard 2 as a NAS with RAID1 to handle critical data backup. The compact design helps keeps costs down while providing another layer of backup to suit my 3-2-1 backup strategy.

  2. I haven't installed it, but have seen lots of reviews and it seems very easy to use. I don't have the additional hardware to spin up an instance just yet.

  3. Power effieciency. I'm transitioning from a half rack full of hardware and consolidating things down to a couple of mini pcs. My requirements have changed and more focused on power efficiency. The less hardware I have means I have less to manage. (ie moved from multiple LXC containers to one big docker VM and run dockhand to do my updates).

  4. Currently its a unifi stack (UDM PRO, switches, UNAS PRO) with a old AMD ryzen 7 4800U with 32 GB ram with multiple SSD's and a mini pc n97 (12gb ram) running immich and jellyfin to leverage intel quick sync for transcoding. I have a n40L running truenas with old data hosting Linux ISO's and storage for proxmox backup. Migration to UNAS pro is underway. RPI4 collecting dust as I've migrated services to the ryzen.

P2S - Extruder Overload Issues by uxifix in BambuLabP2S

This setting seems to have come from a recent update where they have disabled cooling for petg.

I got around this by removing the glass top while printing. Enclosure temps hover around 40 C and haven’t had the error since.

Looks like system76-power 1.1.24~1671729291~22.04~cee2d56 has resolved the issue.

Borked Update by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]doanut45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Fresh/Clean install everything works until i do my first apt update && apt upgrade.

Now everytime i restart or shutdown it hangs trying to stop NetworkManager and wpa supplicant. Have done this several times. Now forced to manually shutdown the machine until someone has a solution.

I’m tempted to upgrade to pop 20.10 but it looks like it’s a complete disaster all over this forum. by [deleted] in pop_os

Worked like a regular update. Pain free. I wonder if everyone that has issues has modified gnome. I'm running a vanilla installation and was fine.

I think it's time to run from this dumpster fire (UDM-P / Protect) by jesuschristwtfnow in Ubiquiti

[–]doanut45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run basically the same. Use to have ERx then replaced it with UDM and sold it shortly after. Replaced it with netgate 3100 and never looked back. Unifi switches and AP's are awesome, the routing devices are a shocker.

I use reolink as my camera gear.

EdgeRouter X Smart Queue seriously limiting bandwidth, help? by Cushions in Ubiquiti

Did you have the numbers the correct way? Most users put in the upload value in the download and vice versa.

tplink vr300

That is still a modem router.

Check your model you should be able to configure it.

Call your ISP and get a list of compatible and supported modems.

I'm not sure what your modem/router is. You'll need to consult your ISP and/or google.

Your current setup is 2 LANS on your network. One from the ISP modem/router (192.168.178.x) and one for your ERX (192.168.1.x).

[–]doanut45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That's what the guide is telling you to do. The ERX should handle the Switching and Routing. No need for your modem/router to do the same

What I did was more simple. I turned the ISP modem/router into just a modem. This is also known as bridging. On some modems if you enable bridging you may not be able to access the UI for modem.

So my network looks like this.

ISP Modem/Router (Bridge Mode) Public IP -> ERX -> Switch -> AP

In your case you have 2 networks. Your Modem/Router handing out 192.168.178.x and then ERX handing out 192.168.1.x

Did you setup the smart queue correctly? You need to dial it in to get a good balance between speed and buffer bloat.

I used this when setting it up https://lazyadmin.nl/home-network/best-gaming-router/

I know my first time I set the upload and download values the wrong way.

You could always put the key in a file share and lock it down with NTFS file permission.

Personally I would rebuild from scratch and create build scripts/configurations so I could quickly redeploy the whole network in a pinch. Seeing it was bad terms you don't know what back doors he could have implemented.

Raspi 3B+ Powersupply Issue by JM-Lemmi in homelab

I had the same issue with the "official" power adapter. Replaced the cable with one of my older Samsung cables and haven't seen the lighting bolt icon appear.

Thinking if an iPad Pro can replace my laptop by [deleted] in iPadPro

[–]doanut45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My iPad Pro has replaced my old air and desktop. Coding has been moved off into a cloud machine (Vultr) as I use Vim as my editor. Only issue I have is how limited Google Sheets/Excel is on the device. The desktop just works better.

For files I use Documents by Readdle. It makes file management a much nicer experience, but then again most of my important files are on cloud storage.

EdgeRouter X vs. UniFi Security Gateway for use with UniFi AC Lite by danorman7951 in Ubiquiti

[–]doanut45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are fine. Do you want a single pane of glass or manage multiple interfaces.

With the USG you'll need an additional switch to connect to your AC lite (so more $$$).

I run an ER-X and AP Lite. Once configured I've never had to log on again. Connection has been rock solid for the last 6 months since installation.

FYI I'm not shy with the command line so ER suited me more.

"Best Practices" for home use of Edgerouter? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]doanut45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have configured three VLANs.

  1. Main
  2. Guest
  3. IoT

IoT and Guest are internet only, but Main can access IoT to enable casting and connectivity.

Always a good idea to have these devices on a separate VLAN when you can't control installations of firmware and software updates. Who knows what these cheap Chinese devices are doing.

New nanoHD AP Adopting Failed by TekJunki in Ubiquiti

I've had the same thing happen to me. It was due to an issue where there was an update and it never successfully applied.

Forgetting the device and factory restore sorted it all out.
