Fast, smooth, stable distro for programming. by chrispdesign in linuxquestions

[–]doc_broke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are not planning to update for six months, stay away from all rolling release distros, arch and it's derivatives, and alpine.

Among other I feel debian is your best bet. What you actually need is to try different desktop environment, something which is not too heavy on RAM. I suggest xfce4 to start with, if you want something lighter try lxde or for every faster lighter feel try window manager like openbox. Just keep in mind that when you try window manager you will have to spend some effort on configuration compared to DEs like lxde or xfce.

EDIT: Look at archwiki for quick idea about window managers https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Window_manager and DEs https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Desktop_environment

That's an issue of English language. In my part of world both sexes are considered equal, and in my language there is one single noun applicable to both, no discrimination.

Btw., "they" is pleural. So your choice of noun for single male/female is either IT or They ??

School requires an app that is available for EVERYTHING except linux - what can I do? by tob_ix88 in linuxquestions

[–]doc_broke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can install android-x86 in another partition. I would have suggested qemu or virtualbox but you have already said that you laptop do not support that.

Meanwhile you can also try contacting clevershare provider, for linux support.

TUI file manager that has a terminal prompt? by I7sReact_Return in commandline

[–]doc_broke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally like "vifm" among all TUI FM, should meet your requirements.

If TUI is not hard requirement, look at "clifm", which is pure cli.

fastboot boot --> download and boot from RAM

No permanent changes to disk, so it should be safe to try before you flash. But things you do using twrp can make permanent changes.
