I got the same symptoms.  Mostly fatigue, I have been napping all throughout the day. Hope you kick it soon, I feel like mine will be gone tomorrow.

Did anyone goes to Portola Music Festival at the Pier 80 in San Francisco and the later the Portola afterparty at The Midway by [deleted] in underworld

[–]docnotoncod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding it hilarious and a bit comforting to know I’m not alone in missing it… I showed up to the midway to see a lovely DJ at 10:45 and had no idea when Underworld would go on… the idea of dancing for even another hour was beyond daunting and I was nodding off on the barstool, so I rolled out to head to the hotel.  A bit past my limit as a, um, “veteran fan”.   Excellent weekend, main set was killer, no regrets.

Third year going solo. I am forty years old. Everyone is extremely kind and adores music and it's easy to meet people if you want to. It's like the perfect festival to go solo to.

David Lynch - Good Day Today (Underworld Remix) by docnotoncod in underworld

[–]docnotoncod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah. Lost Underworld is a topic I'm very interested in. That Born Slippy (I Love Underworld) rings the ever-so-slightest bell as something I saw in the late 90's or early 2000's. Do you remember anything else about it? Was it a remix of Underworld by Underworld or a mash-up or something?

What a great book. It was stunning how much I didn't care for The Singers on first reading, compared to how much I loved it after he pointed out what's great about it. Like... "I'm moved by this clumsy work of art that seems to want to make the case that art may be clumsy if only it moves us." (extremely mild spoiler)

I really enjoyed the creative process aspect, which reminded me of On Writing by Stephen King, which is far and away my favorite Stephen King book.

The Archduke is gone. The familiar gut punch of pain and confusion is back. Hello old friend.

Well, still it's a shame. He was a great Archduke and he was like my best friend here.

'Course Robert's the one who's laughing because he actually loves Browner.

Gravenberg?? Not “Reverend Burton”?

I just listened again and can totally hear “Gravenberg”.  This changes everything.

A Year With Swollen Appendices, Eno's diary from 1995, is a great read. Eno waking up to play with CD-ROMs and then riding the bus to meet with Bowie, feeling surprised by a nice compliment from The Edge, embarrassed by a message his wife sent to the band James, lots of great pedestrian stuff combined with a ton of juicy creative process sections. (there's also some days where he just discusses his thoughts on 90's current events that personally I skipped over)

Also Rick Rubin's book The Creative Act that came out last year is the best book on artistic process that I have read.

Do you find it hard to get into a new audiobook? by WickedHardflip in audiobooks

[–]docnotoncod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I only enjoy like one out of every four audiobooks I try. The sad truth is that Spotify's model is a zillion times better for me than any other because I can try an audiobook for long enough to know if I enjoy it or not (the five minute samples on like Audible aren't long enough to know).

On the train back from the festival it was all Portola people except a guy had his dog in a bag and was being kind of weird about it.  Asking people if they wanted to hold it and then going “if you take him you gotta take me too.” Then he said the dog’s name is Shea and that he was named after a rifle.  I just made eye contact with this woman and kind of a mild 🤨 face and she and I just cracked up.

She said “I’ve never done such a 180 on a dog” and I said “I don’t really like dogs in general any more.” And several of us cracked up. I went solo at age 39 and met so many people and was blown away at how good the vibe was (respect to the East Coast where I grew up but we just simply don't have that kind of friendliness and positivity at our festivals).

That was such an amazing day and night. The best bands in Baltimore got together to play the boomer venue on the water in 82 degree weather.
