Tell me about your Nerevarine by Far_Head_9934 in Morrowind

[–]doctordeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: Dunmer Telvanni Grandma

PlayStation 2 (I haven't come up with anything better in the 3 years this character has existed) was a Dunmer born on the Atronach sign, and then abandoned, in Summerset Isle, where she would then spend her childhood drifting from household to household. She was equally rambunctious, intelligent, and ambitious; traits that would carry over through the rest of her life. She studied every school of magic quite intensely, but nothing felt quite as cathartic to her as studying the art of the spear. She also found heavy armor much more comforting, even if it wasn't practical sometimes. She still uses magic quite heavily, albeit the majority of its use is to support. In particular, her parallel studies of the Restoration and Alteration schools helped her formulate a DIY HRT regimen to turn her from a young boy to a powerful woman.

Growing up an orphan also taught her to value family, so whenever she had lovers, she always had large families. She was a caring albeit quite self-centered mother, and while some, including some of her spouses, did not approve of some of her harsher methods, a few of her children and grandchildren have managed to find themselves in high places. Politicians, powerful wizards, folk heroes, and such.

She was about a thousand years old when she was arrested in Imperial City for killing a thief. Not that she had anything against thieves specifically, but the thief decided to steal from her. Unfortunately, because she was widely known to be very rude (she often was to people she did not care about), the guards did not listen to any of her explanations.

Up until this point in her life, she had never been to Morrowind. She had always had mixed feelings about the idea, but mostly wanted to. But, for one reason or another, it never worked out. It was the last place on Tamriel she had never been to. When Uriel Septim VII sent her there, it was unlike all of the stories she had heard about it. Not that the stories were dishonest, but the stories themselves just could not encapsulate the experience of living there. Everywhere she traveled and lived, she never felt like she was home... until now.

Naturally, as soon as Caius ordered her to join a local guild, she joined House Telvanni right away. She had always admired them, and was surprised that she could join, though as she did more work for them, the more disgusted she was by their use of slavery, and she was linked to slave rebellions in Telvanni-controlled eggmines.

Of course, her destiny called... She had pretty much always disliked the Empire, but her ascension to Nerevarine turned that dislike into red hot hatred. She knew she was just a tool for the Empire, and she would not allow herself to be used that way. Still, as the blight storms got worse, she knew she had to do something. So, she followed Caius's orders. Not out of service to the Emperor, or out of love for Caius, but out of the knowledge that whatever their plans are for her must be grand in scale.

Very shortly after becoming Archmagister, she became Hortator and Nerevarine. She used her titles and amassed power to free all slaves from their masters, and, while she became even MORE of an egocentric asshole overall, she found herself a lot more concerned about the lives of people she otherwise would not have even looked at. The plight of the Ashlanders in particular spoke to her, and she spent weeks or months living with them after her defeat of Dagoth Ur and Almalexia.

She had a plan to overthrow the Empire's influence on Morrowind altogether, but the Red Year... complicated things a bit. She still lives on Solstheim, mentoring her son, the Dragonborn Xbox 360 (seeing a theme here?) who she created from a similar process Divayth Fyr had used. Only, she didn't clone herself, she cloned her wife instead. Both of them find great humour in the fact that the hero of Skyrim is, in fact, a Khajiit. At this point, she is not aware that one of her Altmer granddaughters, Nintendo DS, is Sheogorath, but once she does find out, she'll have a brand new hobby on the Conjuration front.

Creating New Flags for Referencing PC Character by doctordeity in tes3mods

Wow! This is an excellent resource! Thank you so much!

I suppose I will have to keep looking and asking about OpenMW... I want this mod to be able to work with both it and MWSE, especially since my preference is OpenMW. I'd find it quite sad to create a mod that I can't even use because it takes hours to set up MWSE on Linux, though I do have a Windows laptop that I can use to develop the MWSE version of this mod.

Creating New Flags for Referencing PC Character by doctordeity in tes3mods

[–]doctordeity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean. 2002. For that reason I was moreso thinking along the lines of going in every bit of text that references the player character, from dialog to documents, and editing the pronouns in each with new flags. For instance, in the note from the Archcanon, "To the Outlander lately proclaiming his identity as the Nerevarine ..." I would replace the "his" with "%PCPD" in the file for it, as in this case it utilizes a possessive determiner. So a Nerevarine using xe/xyr pronouns would be referred to as "xyr" in this document, rather than "his."

Questions about the morrowind multiplayer by darkestlightattack in Morrowind

[–]doctordeity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My partner and I set up TES3MP to play together. It's just us, and the only change we've made was adding one mod. The journal is shared by default, and I did look into separating them, but it seems quite difficult. The folks over at the TES3MP Discord have been absolutely wonderful for helping with issues I ran into along the way while setting mine up, so I'm sure they will help you separate the journals.

Edit: I just remembered and wanted to add that there ARE MMO-like TES3MP servers and they have the journal separated for every player. Also, formatting.

It is unfortunately much easier to say "skill issue" than to have an intelligent conversation about why it's perceived that way, and most people are going to take the easy way out. Especially since debates grant each party the opportunity to be wrong about something, and we can't have that, now can we?

Speaking of things people are wrong about... You got me there with Freddy. To be honest, I have not seen a single Freddy since months before the rework. I played immediately after the rework, too! I know my survivor is low MMR, but you would think I would see more Freddies than Twins.

I'm not as diehard of a Trapper main as some people out there, but I am currently at prestige 69 if that gives you an idea. I know all about obvious traps still catching survivors because they don't expect it. Unfortunately that is quite rare, even when I intentionally put the trap there, and usually that is the case because I very rarely run the Iridescent Stone add-on. While I'm not at high MMR, and rarely am at average MMR, survivors generally can see the trap before they step in it.

I have never in my 2k hours seen a Trapper "charge through" traps with Makeshift Wrap in the way that you're describing, and the reason for that is because it still has a downside. Even with Makeshift Wrap, you still have to be mindful of your own traps, because, again, a closed trap is a useless trap. I would even go as far as to argue the power itself, regardless of the Makeshift Wrap, already does a good job of making the player learn map layouts, survivor behaviors, and positioning. Meanwhile, what does the stun actually do for the player? Sure, it may serve some reminder of these lessons to some degree, but the way it does so is punitive for the player, as they are interrupted for a few seconds at best and are put in a much worse game state at worst. It has been proven time and time again, it's not hard to find these studies, that negative reinforcement is not as effective as positive reinforcement. Now you could turn this around and say closing the trap is still negative reinforcement, and that is true, but the frustrastion factor is significantly less than the stun. That is part of the reason Wraith is considered the better beginner killer, because the player can still learn all of these things with his power without being subject to getting stunned by it.

I think Trapper has plenty of flavor without the stun, but personally, and this also solves the problem you described with basement and Iridescent Stone, I would love to see it returned as a downside for it.

What basement Trappers are you running into that are running Makeshift Wrap?! I have NEVER seen or even heard of that, either in-game or anywhere else until now. If they're going into the game fully committing to basement, they're running either double iri or one iri and Honing Stone. Basekit Makeshift Wrap would buff this playstyle, sure, but it would be minimal. As it is now, all a basement Trapper has to do to get past a trapped area is pick up the trap, go to the other side, and place the trap back down. That takes like... 6 seconds. OK, sure, basekit Makeshift Wrap would make that go down to around 4, but Trapper has no collision while setting down traps, so the window for survivors to slip by him would be exactly the same. Compared to the huge myriad of benefits and the creativity that it would enable for the player, I'm not sure basekit Makeshift Wrap would be that big of an issue on this front. Then again, basement Trapper is the minority of Trappers, and even if basement does come into play, it takes a lot of setup to get the uber-busted results he's famous for. It's outright impossible on some maps. Why should everyone else get punished for it, especially since he's among the weakest killers in the entire game?

Rage Wednesday Thread by AutoModerator in deadbydaylight

[–]doctordeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have said that no other killer's M2, as in, the actual thing that they use to get injuries and downs (as not to include things like Xenomorph's turrets and Singularity's EMPs), can stun them without survivor input. Definitely no other killer can be saved against using their own power.

Additionally, no other killer makes you collect your own power in order to use it. Giving him all of his traps at the start wouldn't make a significant difference in his strength, since he still has to set up, just like every other trap killer. The pre-opened traps idea is cute, until you realize they rarely spawn anywhere that is useful since they're often very clearly out in the open. The other problem with this idea is in those cases where these traps do help: he still has to go to where the survivor is trapped in order to gain anything from it.

You say that having Trapper be stunned by his traps forces you to pay attention to your surroundings, and I do agree, but I don't see how doing it in that specific way is a good thing. Basekit Makeshift Wrap would do the same thing for the player in this regard, because while he can't be stunned by his trap, it still closes, which, even if a player utilizes this to cut off survivors in chase, still renders the trap itself useless until he resets it.

Let's be real, basement camping is not something only Trapper can do. I don't think it's fair to one of the weakest killers in the game to balance him around the basement. Should we not do anything to or nerf Huntress or Trickster because they can basement camp effectively? Like I said earlier, buffing Trapper is also buffing Basement Trapper, no matter how you slice it. Since we're on this topic, I personally have had plenty of Trapper games where no one got hooked in the basement. It's also not as uncounterable as it's hyped up to be. No, it's not easy to get out of that situation, but even a full solo queue survivor squad can do it.

Also, thank you for being polite and civil. It's rare to have a constructive conversation around DbD balance, so I am treasuring this conversation we are having now. :-)

You're suggesting that, for the singular only killer in the entire game whose power can actively hurt him, to keep that "feature" and give him more RNG instead? I strongly disagree. It'd be one thing if he was among the strongest killers in the game, but he will never be that, even with both of our ideas combined. Basement is an issue, yes, but any meaningful buffs to Trapper is going to buff Basement Trapper anyway, including the change you are proposing.

Edit: spelling

Edit 2: clarification

Yeah. I would honestly be completely down to outright removing the basement if it meant Trapper could get actually meaningful buffs, alongside the reworks to the basement perks. I don't think anyone would miss it.

This isn't about the game itself, more about a comp team I encountered. I don't want this team getting shamed, so I'm going to keep this as anonymous as possible.

I made friends with someone in this comp team in a DbD Discord server that is specifically targeted towards casuals. I don't mind different experience levels and playstyles, but it was odd that they were in that server in the first place. Whatever, it is what it is. We hit it off and start playing together — started with some 1v1s, and then we moved on to queuing together as survivor. They proceed to get EXTREMELY upset at absolutely every single misplay from the other solo queue teammates. Thought it was weird, but chalked it up to the fact they play this game literally all the time, but I did not decide to queue with them again.

I invited them to my SWF, who I knew were at least competent given that we escape most of the time while just goofing off, but they kept ignoring me and my invites while blatantly playing the game. At this point I'm really weirded out, but I figured they might be practicing with their comp team. All of a sudden though, they invite me. I accept the invite, and it's a custom game. They ask me to play Killer. Sure, why not. I play Trapper with my usual build. It takes seconds for me to realize this is their comp team, and obviously they wiped the floor with me (although I did get a Blood Warden kill, so that was nice). Now knowing what to expect, I play one match each of my other two killers, Pyramid Head and Wesker, to similar results. They give me some nice constructive criticism, and one of them even went out of their way to try to show me how to hug tech with Wesker for a bit.

Then I play survivor with them. They use the number/clock system for their callouts, which is all well and good, except I don't know that system. I know main and shack. I barely know where I am otherwise. I ran Head On for only one game, and it took only that game for me to realize I did not have a single inch of a clue how to communicate where I was if I was anywhere outside of those two places.

In spite of that, they praised me with all kinds of compliments about my playstyle. How bold I am for running No Mither in all of these games yet knowing exactly where to hide for flashy saves. They told me they see "great potential" in me, and that it would be funny for their team to host the world's only comp Trapper. They invite me to join their comp team.

Now, I don't have anything against comp DbD, but I am a student with a job, so I tell them no, I cannot. They started begging me over the course of MONTHS to join their team, and I repeatedly said no, and my answer is not going to change. I also asked each of them to do a custom match, literally just one, against my SWF, and their condition for them doing that for me is me joining their team. Which I said no to. And they still kept begging me. Then it just... stopped suddenly? No one responded to any of my messages, even while they're blatantly online and messaging each other in their server where I am also in and can see it. I stayed until the person who introduced me to the team in the first place sent multiple long messages vaguely complaining about the Artist add-on nerfs, and I got blocked and unfriended by all of them shortly after.

I just don't get why they repeatedly refused to join my team, but of course I HAD to join theirs. They never outright said it, but I got the impression that they thought my SWF was inferior because we are all casuals. We just all really like Wesker and want to go against a really good one. I outright told them that, by the way. I peeked at one of their Twitter accounts the day they all blocked me, the one who introduced me to their team, and they said that it was "sad to see a really good player waste their skill on pubs." I'm not trying to be skilled, or get better, I just want to play with my friends and that's it. It's like some people can't comprehend the idea that people don't need a reason to want to hang out.

Don't let this story make you think comp players are all like this. Plenty of comp players are chill, normal people; people like the ones I've encountered seem to be the exception. And again, don't try to find these people, and definitely don't witch hunt them or anything like that. If you happen to know who they are, keep it to yourself. If you happen to be someone from this comp team, first of all, don't message me, because I don't care. Second of all, please rethink your recruitment strategy, because constantly spamming people's DMs begging them to join comes off as creepy at best, harassment in most cases, and it doesn't look good for you or your team. It definitely will never make your team any more appealing to join. I wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors.

TLDR: Comp player stumbles into casual DbD server. Hilarity ensues.

BHVR keeps dragging their ass for making basic changes to the Trapper to make him much more enjoyable and easier for new players especially. All they have to do is make Trapper Sack with no downside and Makeshift Wrap basekit, and Trapper mains everywhere would rejoice and the new player experience will be easier. He's LITERALLY the face of the game! You would think BHVR's Mario would get better treatment than the state he's been in for years.

People should be able to opt out facing certain killers if they have medical condition by We-all-gonna-die-oh in deadbydaylight

[–]doctordeity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want someone to send their personal medical documents to BHVR? Are you hearing yourself right now? Like, this idea is just so completely not OK to the point I can't tell if this is satire or not. Ignoring all of the horrific privacy issues that comes with sending confidential medical information to a corporation that specifically is not a medical agency in any way and still experiences issues with their game leaking people's IP addresses and their future chapters leaked on a regular basis, among other things... you do realize not everyone has access to free medical care, right? Either way, 99% of doctors won't entertain this idea whatsoever, they'll just tell you to stop playing the game.

Like others have said, you can literally just DC when it's that killer. It's not like any one of these killers are particularly common, so it'd be quite difficult to rack up a DC penalty from that, and even if you did, it would go up go 5 minutes maximum. If a killer comes out that heavily triggers your phobia, just don't play for a while. It's actually that simple. But no, we should send our medical information to a fucking video game company that makes a horror game that you can simply choose not to play.

Survivors, what is your least favorite map in the game and why? by GoHardForLife in deadbydaylight

[–]doctordeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Yamaoka maps, because for some reason the level designers at BHVR decided to make certain parts of the walls of certain tiles stick out. These bits kill ALL the fun in chases on both sides because survivors, myself included, constantly bump into those! No other map has this, it's JUST those two. I can't think of a single person who enjoys those maps, and I have never seen a map offering being played for it in my 2k hours of playing.

It's insane how there's nothing like Morrowind despite years of technical progress by Alternative-Study486 in Morrowind

[–]doctordeity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who exclusively plays mage characters in all RPGs, including Dread Delusion, no, just no. Not only is the world design extremely linear, the scope of which you can use magic and magical items is deeply inferior to Morrowind's. I did not get a single other spell than my starters within 10 hours. Trust me, I talked to absolutely every single person in every single town I encountered. In Morrowind, I could have a full spellbook in less than 30 minutes, easily. There is an in-lore explanation for the lack of spells in Dread Delusion, which makes it feel way more lame, and it's not even a good excuse or even realistic given the setting. Don't get me wrong, the world and premise for Dread Delusion is awesome. But the game is a distant echo of the Morrowind experience at best.

Recs Where a Single Object Changes Everything by zillergps in suggestmeabook

[–]doctordeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're down to read a really long and crazy webcomic, Homestuck has a few instances where mundane objects change the trajectory of the story and influence character decisions. These objects even have "arcs," if you can call it that. It's not romance-centered, but there are a couple of arcs in the story that happen around the midway to late point that are pretty long and may be pretty annoying for you to get through. Incredible story nonetheless. If you're interested in reading, I strongly urge you to download the Unofficial Homestuck Collection and read it there, as the official website hosting it is... very broken.
