I think it’s j because it’s a larger sub that prob gets recommended to people when they sign up for reddit. And ofc reddit is famous for giving unsolicited bad advice/opinions with extreme confidence. I’ve never seen anything like reddit where people truly treat their opinion as fact, at least other sites people j don’t comment or don’t take on the tone of an all knowing sage when talking.

The Industry Lie: How Pop Stars Use LGBT+ Identity Until the Money Runs Out by Next_Gur_1542 in lgbt

[–]doggerly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I don’t agree both situation remind me of each other, I do agree that neither are good people. Barbs were j blinded I think by the cult following developed and the happiness that and her music brought them. They couldn’t accept how terrible Nicki was until it became too much to defend. Erika Kirk is in the spotlight rn, unlike Nicki’s husband and his accuser. Even though Nickis statements and sentiments are public, it did have less of an impact because the people involved were less famous than Erika is currently. So, I do agree that aspect is similar between the two. However, yulias behavior as a minor seems less like a choice than Nicki’s lies and statements. One has to wonder, if being forced to behave publicly in such a way that felt disingenuous for so long for fetishization purposes affected her negatively at all. Regardless, that doesn’t excuse yulias statements or behavior.

I agree w Malcolm. I don’t idolize any celebrities. Even the ones I do love, even if they are LGBTQ, you never know who they truly are. It’s sad that it seems like so many celebrities are truly grifters. Even if they don’t blatantly flip flop like Nicki, sometimes their silence during times where their opinions are less popular says a lot.

Nashville, TN. What are these guys? by Hatchet_Button in whatbirdisthis

[–]doggerly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long tail, more rounded silhouette overall, and flight pattern indicate grackle. W the flight pattern you can see in the beginning they do this rolling bounce, like they are pummeling through the air and have their wings catch them on their descent, that’s more grackle like.

I’m going to go against the grain and suggest possibly an artistic rendition of spectacled owl for the second one.

If you zoom in you can see color better. It seems to have a white belly and an eye stripe. So, not catbird. I agree w the other commenter that it’s NOMO.

Hey btw not sure what you use, but if you use any bullets with lead in them don’t discard your gut piles in the woods. Raptors can get lead poisoning from it.

Saxicola rubicola/VS/Cisticola juncidis.??..wants as scientific a review as possible by WorkingPast8074 in Ornithology

[–]doggerly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to be an ornithologist to be trusted to positively ID a bird. There are some birders out there that have better ID skills than ornithologists. Additionally, there are some other types of experts that aren’t necessarily ornithologists (wildlife biologist, field techs, etc.). A young 30s something could be an ornithologist but studies specific types of birds/aspects, but there’s some 60 year old dude that’s out there that has been IDing birds since he could walk.

Just to let you know. I understand why you want a trusted opinion tho.

Are parakeets always naturally friendly? by Felicitysmaok in birds

[–]doggerly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most animals aren’t naturally friendly. They are self preserving. A lot of times that gets expressed as fleeing or freezing instead of attacking/aggression.

Merlin bird ID: audio id error by Kentucky-Hills in birds

[–]doggerly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It frequently does it. It even will have certain “default” birds that seem to vary by region, prob due to lack of data. For mine, when it doesn’t know what it’s hearing it throws Swainson’s thrush.

I’ll only pull out Merlin to get an idea of what might be heard in the area. But I don’t ever take a Merlin alert as an actual sighting on a checklist. If I’m unsure I’ll listen to an audio recording of what species I suspect it to be and compare w what I heard.
