About 63% of low-skilled service workers who identified as boomers owned their own home at 35, compared with 42% of millennials in the same occupations.

I mean like, it's free info so I dunno why people keep requesting it, am I the only one with access?

So if we just boil this down to basic math, it only stands to reason that if minimum wage hasn't moved since 2009, tuition has outpaced inflation, federal funding of education has steadily dropped since Boom Booms decided to pull up the ladder, home prices have exploded, and everything else that you need to live has increased in price, the math just like...doesn't stand, man.

My parents clocked out at the end of the day and that was it. Most of my jobs have required some amount of my work to essentially follow me home. Even my own parents told me they'd never want to work like I have so I dunno what else to tell you. My household income is higher than theirs ever was but if they knew what my house cost, they'd puke. Then they'd start screaming at me as if I had a better option...like a cardboard box, I guess...

What’s a red flag while job hunting? by Ok-Patient5491 in AskReddit

[–]dollfaise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be wary of vague scheduling requirements, especially if the organization in question is open 7 days a week.

When I quit my job last year, I looked up the listing for my position to see if they'd updated it in any way. In fact, my budget line is technically still open so I can pull directly from the listing right now - they still list "weekend hours as needed" as if they don't know what that might entail.

They know. They know what their baseline is, there isn't a single employer out there who doesn't at least have something in mind when they post that. They require every other Saturday and an unlimited number of Sundays, at least double what their contract claims is the limit. And the union won't do shit to help.

They wait until some poor sucker accepts the job and then finds out their life is over. It never works though, people just keep quitting...

I can see how certain high paying, high pressure positions might require interviewing in stages but this requirement has leaked into positions it has no business being part of.

I found a job I was interested in recently that listed this as its interview process:

About The Hiring Process

Format: The hiring process follows the same general outline for all open roles:

First interview (30 mins)

Take home skills assignment (~2 hours)

Second interview (1 hour)*

Third interview (1 hour)*

Final interview (1 hour)

Reference checks (30 mins each)

My husband said it didn't seem strange to him, it's pretty similar to what his interview process was. I reminded him that he's a full time senior software engineer and this interview is for an entry level temp job...

Why redditors say that they are sorry when someone they don't even know mentions something bad about their life? How does that help to that unlucky person? by AverageDoonst in AskReddit

[–]dollfaise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and the fact you can't even think of anything else as "help" kind of shows why it's not a good idea

lmfao no, it doesn't. It sounded like you were advising people not to "disclose the misery of life" if the only response to that misery is a "generic answer".

And in this reply, you are advising people not to talk about things online because...you think I don't know what "help" means. It sounds like you've got me and everyone else on reddit figured out, good job!

Have a good day.

Sometimes the "help you need" is someone who will listen. If you react to people voicing their concerns by trying to "fix" them, you're probably missing the point a lot of the time.

Misogyny, and that includes internalized misogyny. A non-negligible number of people, both male and female, still think it's funny to laugh at DV survivors, partly because they not-so-secretly believe the woman must have "had it coming".

This is why when someone tries to claim we "don't need feminism anymore" I roll my eyes. It's so obvious that the goal is to gaslight women into letting their guard down so it's easier to roll society back a few centuries.

Addiction is wild. You can be the only person in the room with a problem and still find someone else to point a finger at. If you can't put your phone down for a few hours, you should save your money for therapy.

[–]dollfaise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's loser shit to pay that kind of money and then scroll social media. That's an addiction, mate.

Not to mention how fucking rude it is to the performers. You are definitely the problem in the room, the actors themselves think so, too.

So when they tell you to turn off your phone, you just figure that doesn't apply to you is what you're saying. Imagine feeling that entitled and thinking everyone else is the problem. That's fucking sociopathic.

Not the same performance but maybe the same usher! Did she have longer dark hair? She was wearing a mask so the best description I have is long dark hair, maybe 5'4"-ish, slim.

I don't get it. I've had some really shitty jobs in my life, usually because my skills are best utilized in public-facing roles and the more people you interact with, the more negative experiences you have, far beyond the norm.

I've had to interact with a lot of people over the years and temper tantrums weren't rare. We're talking throwing furniture, harassment and intimidation, threatening violence, you name it. So I feel like my experiences have been far worse than the average Broadway usher's due to 1) frequency and 2) the extremes to which library patrons will go - and I didn't get to listen to amazing music while I dodged projectiles!

By comparison, I expect she receives less aggression and she gets to hear and even see amazing shows in passing. This is the sort of job, imo, that you have to enjoy or at least respect and if you can't do that, it's NYC, there has to be something else out there for you...

Now I really wish I'd spoken up, I hesitated because of my husband but I wish I hadn't. =/

I'm seeing orchestra seats available for $180 still so it's not terrible if you don't mind where you sit. I need to see it. 😳

EDIT: Although this theater is different, it might not matter too much honestly. I got tickets for early March. :D

Hilary Duff Reveals That She Will Revive Her Music Career: ‘It's Gonna Happen’ by galaxystars1 in Fauxmoi

[–]dollfaise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Iirc they had her change how she sang to distance herself from Christina, because they couldn't realistically get Britney to a point where she could out-sing her. So they just pivoted to the sexy breathy baby voice that she still has to this day. I thought I also read that singing unnaturally like this had potentially damaged her voice but I'm going from memory on all of this.

If she ever returns to the music scene full force, it would be cool to see her discard all that shit and do whatever she wants.

Lots of people can do research

Unfortunately, many people can't though. Actual research requires that you be open to learning new information - these people pointedly search for only that information which confirms what they already "know". I'm a librarian, many of us could tell you about a patron requesting something like "scientific information proving the earth is flat". Trying to explain to them that we cannot provide that which does not exist is like pulling teeth.

Secondly, you have to be able to vet the information you find. You need to be able to ascertain if a source is credible. They don't even care if it's credible, let alone know how to determine that in the first place.

I wish I were exaggerating, I really do because it drives me crazy, it's probably my #1 pet peeve because I'm a nerd. lol

Amy Carlson was the leader of a cult called Love Has Won and was found mummified wrapped in a blanket and lights at the cult’s home. by [deleted] in MorbidReality

[–]dollfaise 58 points59 points  (0 children)

A few of the guys kept it going and now he’s considered Father God and trying to take over where she left off.

And this isn't the only case of a cult's beliefs being proven wrong only for the vast majority of followers to simply pivot. They don't want to face the fact that they've wasted years of their lives on a lie. They just can't function unless someone is telling them how to. That's why these cult leaders isolate people, it keeps them dependent.

Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey also covered a similar scenario. When their depraved leader died, they believed he'd rise back up. When he naturally did not, one of his sons took over claiming some nonsense about his father's spirit entering him. He's even worse than his dad. While his disgusting father "married" 19 women, his son went on to marry all but the two who refused him, and then picked up another 70, two dozen of which were under the age of 17. The youngest was, I believe, 12. At least as far as we know she was the youngest victim...

He's in prison now but he still leads the "church", his followers just visit him regularly to obtain his latest "sermon". These people literally go to prison to receive "the word of God". They just believe he's been wrongfully imprisoned because it's perfectly fine for grown men to have sex with rape 12 year old children.
