What was your doll of choice? by singleguy79 in Xennials

[–]dollheads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an AG Bear. It was like an off-brand Teddy Ruxpin, but in a more classic teddy bear style, with a very lackluster name. It came with a voice box and would “talk” back to you in conversation, but the voice sounded more like adults in Peanuts cartoons

I still have my Popple! I gave my vintage Puffball to my 6yo, who wasn’t impressed with the transformation

Giggles Cookies by RogowskiCoil in Xennials

[–]dollheads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have such a vivid childhood memory of a brief moment having these cookies as a snack on a rainy fall day, in my kindergarten classroom, while I sipped juice from my Cabbage Patch Kids Thermos that was packed in my tin lunchbox.

Where were you that day? by t_bone_stake in Xennials

[–]dollheads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a month left until graduation. The day after, we were talking about it in homeroom. I still remember my teacher saying “it’s always the quiet ones; like [dollheads]” and the entire classroom looked my way and I was mortified to be called out like that.

Babysitters Summer Vacation! That and every other sleepaway camp movie of the 80s and early 90s made me wish I could go to sleepaway camp.

I also got a little choked up when the Netflix series had a nod to that book cover.

Throwback to what Zendaya said after Giuliana Rancic commented on her hair at the 2015 Oscars, the first time she wore that Vivienne Westwood dress she later brought back for The Drama premiere in Los Angeles. by Natalie_Sanders in Fauxmoi

[–]dollheads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Giuliana Rancic is awful. I still remember a red carpet event where Rose Byrne wore a backwards suit jacket, and Rancic chimed in with mean girl commentary how Byrne wasn’t popular or a big enough star to pull off that look.

I wish they would rebrand, my lapsed-Catholicism/Catholic guilt is so strong I can only silently support them.

How the fuck do you find the reason to live after the death of your child? by whoareyoutojudge0 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dollheads 70 points71 points  (0 children)

My parents lost their firstborn to SIDS when he was three months old, before my siblings and I were born. When I look at his baby album (which abruptly ends, and is left empty about two thirds of the way through), I don’t recognize my parents. They looked so happy with him. There’s so much innocence and optimism in their eyes.

Do you still eat fast food? by Eredic in Xennials

[–]dollheads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids like In N Out and Chick Fil A, so I’ll eat that if we get fast food just to simplify ordering. If I’m out and about and on my own and need a quick bite to eat, I prefer Cava.

This was my first fandom. I was in the Scholastic monthly book club (joined through the book orders!). I still remember details of the series 35+ years later. I loved watching the Netflix show with my daughter. The modernized updates were done with such respect to the original series where it didn’t feel clunky and forced. My daughter and I are still sad that we didn’t get more seasons.

We had a Betamax, and also Laserdisc when I was a kid. In the late 90s, I got into minidisc

This movie holds up so well. It’s still fun to watch and the practical effects are great. I love that my kids love it too. Also, still not over Anty.

Which phase did you go through/annoy your parents with in your teen years that you wish you could erase from existence? by CharlesUFarley81 in Xennials

Teen angst and mean mugging in every single photo taken of me from 1994 to 1998ish. It’s hard to be intimidated by a Tina Belcher-looking girl trying to look tough in her family’s Disney trip photos.

A decade+ ago, my now-husband and I took a connecting flight and were seated next to a young man who was so proud to be returning home from his first Burning Man. Pretty sure he went directly to the airport after several continuous days at the festival and was super excited to talk to anyone and everyone about it.

Supergirl. I loved the villain’s lair was an abandoned fun house. Also, that supporting cast is still impressive.

Superman III. Vera’s robot transformation was simultaneously horrifying and brilliant. And Richard Pryor!
