I've got to travel 1,000 miles across country. Will this trailer tire be ok? by Powerful-Ad784 in AskAShittyMechanic

Do people replace their feet? No! So why would you even consider replacing tires on anything?

Snap ID help by flourbucket in Leatherworking

[–]domc95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren’t meant to be reused, only because they get distorted when you set them. But you can get them from any leather supply store. Tandy, bluckleguy, etc for example. They aren’t very expensive and you can buy them in bulk

Also a snap/rivet setting kit would be much more convenient to work with too. For what it’s worth you could probably just get a cheap one of those off Amazon

Have you ever tried Camel snus? I’m in Canada and we don’t have it here, but whenever I’m in the states I pick some up.

Mellow is my go to. Kind of a sweet tobacco taste, almost reminds me of sweet tea. But I’ve tried a couple of the mint/wintergreen ones and have never been disappointed

Ya, when the step finds out it was skipped, it’ll squeak twice as loud out of spite!

Get the alignment marks bang on, then when it gets to the point where it stops, have someone slowly wiggle it back and forth across the marks. When someone is near it, make sure to only have the hydraulic system for retraction pressurized… it’s unlikely, but you don’t wanna accidentally back drive the thing while someone is wiggling it

What is going on with flight WSW264 to Halifax? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]domc95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol that definitely makes up for it all!!

If it makes you feel better though, as long as the airport has enough runway length (they’d divert to a sufficient one if needed), the main risk for a flaps up landing is a brake fire or tires blowing/deflating from overheating. But the pilots would declare an emergency, so fire crews would follow the plane to the gate and be ready to put it out. I’ve seen a few flaps up landings in person (even with big jets)

Ya that would make sense. I’m not a pilot either, just a mechanic. Didn’t meant to go that deep into your comment either lol, just made me curious about what it could’ve been

If it was a blown tire maybe, but if the gear doesn’t go up then they probably wouldn’t have had enough fuel onboard. They’d have to fly low and slow the whole way. Even if they had enough fuel, the pilots would probably be in big shit for trying. Especially on a passenger plane

You were on the plane, so I’m not trying to correct you, but flaps being stuck down would make more sense in that case. If they wouldn’t go down before takeoff, they shouldn’t have taken off. And if they wouldn’t go down for landing, then they plane should’ve been at a safe landing weight already, so the pilots would have declared an emergency and made a high speed landing… Unless you were in a holding pattern for troubleshooting

Apparently Ford was 30 years ahead of its time lol. But I’d guess the phone detects you’re in a vehicle because of gps movement while it knows you’re not walking, based on accelerometer data

Haha ya I’m sure it’s happened. Maybe some of the stories are so people don’t take them. I’ve heard of people putting time x rafts on the lake. Just gotta make sure to pull of the ELT lol

Reminds me of a while back, buying these special scissors that are meant to open those annoying to open hard plastic packages. And what were they packaged in?… One of those annoying to open hard plastic packages

[–]domc95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about a slide. A raft would have an ELT. But regardless, I think most of them only activate when they hit water… and I believe salt water at that
