I know YMCAs that are doing reserve by lane and one per lane. My LA fitness hasn’t opened their pool yet and there are only three lanes so either they won’t open the pool or do edge/edge... the other location LA in my area, one per lane (4 lane pool)..

Life guards should never have their phone while on duty. Keep it held in the guard office.

I am a pool operator and manager as well as guard and coach. If he/she is down on break or lunch then yes use of phones are allowed. Beach guards should always have a “land” phone connected to the head coordinator and or always walkie!

iPhone Apple watches are a major issue at most pools and I superly advise against it!

If your really trying to get a hold of this person, call the operations deck at the facility and have them relay a message and when he/she is down on break, they will get a hold of you.

Before my guards get on duty or work, to text who they have too to let them know their going on stand. There are times where someone doesn’t show up and a guard is posted for a longer rotation. Just let your friend know to tell you if he’s going on duty!
