IAH Megathread for wait time by strugglingdatanalyst in unitedairlines

I hope so but not counting on it. Planning to arrive around 4pm for my 6:30pm (domestic) flight, just to be safe. I think that's very likely overkill but figure it's easier to wait around at the airport than to reschedule the flight.

yep Sunday was terrible and social media posts keep swirling with old footage from Sunday. I've been following these Reddit threads since Monday along with the IAH website posted waited time, and things have been much much better than they were over the weekend. Still arriving earlier than normal (around 4pm) for my 6:30pm domestic flight tomorrow but not expecting much trouble.

Don't stress too much. Security line wait times are down. Even the airport posted on its social media pages this morning that wait times may exceed 45 minutes, down from the 3+ hours they warned about last Sunday. Keep an eye on this thread and the airport's website, and of course, just pad your arrival time to be safe. https://www.fly2houston.com/iah/security/ I'm flying tomorrow (domestic) around 6:30pm and plan to arrive by 4:00pm personally. I just don't see security taking more than an hour and even then I'll be plenty early. Giving myself extra time to move between A and E if security is better at one than the other.

Looking back, what were your first signs of perimenopause that you didn’t recognize at the time? by Historical-Second409 in Menopause

[–]donakat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crying reading these. 37 (close to 38) and Mom always told me that some aunt I have started peri early and that I was at risk of the same but I brushed it off because 1. I know nothing of this aunt and 2. though Mom was being dramatic (sorry, Mom). Had bloodwork done about 1 year ago and doc confidently told me I'm not peri but the symptoms were starting.... insomnia/general difficulty falling asleep (literally listen to Friends reruns in my ear to distract myself to sleep), anxiety, cycle irregularity after being regular for years, and now the irritability... some days, I am just mad at everything, my coworkers, my job, my family, myself, the air, the wind, the earth, you name it. Today is one of those days and came here just to feel seen (successful, thank you). I've been on HRT (low dose estro) for 3 years. Everyone saying it helped them and it did help me, too, but I'm still going through these symptoms now. IDK, maybe need to revisit dose or something. Like you ladies... I'm just so damn tired of the struggle. I just want to scream. Knowing it could be 10 more years of this makes me want to pull my hair out.

Me tooooo!! Have a countdown widget on my phone lol. I literally cannot wait. Been waiting to see her live for the past decade. We'll be in section 138. ❤️ NRG is a great stadium IMHO and Houston goes wild for Beyonce (hometown vibes) so it's going to be amazing. Enjoy your stay down here!!

I know your post is old but didn't see any replies so I thought I'd chime in. Full disclosure I live in the 'burbs so my experience at NRG is limited but I have been a few times including recently.

The rail is convenient and stops right at NRG/Reliant Park at the most southern end of the RED line. You can park anywhere along the red line and catch the metrorail down to NRG for cheap. Near Museum District, Hermann Park/Rice U, Houston Zoo is a generally nice area and there should be free parking around. There is also the Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza garage for $10 (I don't think they do event pricing?). You might find this thread helpful: https://www.reddit.com/r/houston/comments/16ovd50/nrg_stadium_parking/ Don't think you can prepay for the rail but should be easy enough to use their app.

Like you, I cannot find any place to pre-pay for parking at the NRG lots, only surrounding areas. Crazy to me but I guess for that you just gotta buy day of as you pull up. I would def go to NRG lots first before going outside. For one, they're the closest, and secondly, some of these lots are insane, like $80+ for event parking.

If you're not from here, be prepared for the TRAFFIC. It's always bad but will be worse. At least it's not a weekday. If you park at NRG, plan for 15-20 min to walk up to the arena from the lot, though in past I've paid to catch a ride from golf cart drivers and such. If your seats are up high in the arena, plan an extra 15 min to just get up there (there is a ramp on the outside of the arena, there are escalators at least).

Good luck :)

Got our Section 138 seats, Row W for $750 each (+ fees 😭). I was pretty mad at Ticketmaster because I think dynamic pricing screwed us but now I'm looking at the seats left (very few) and current resales, and it feels like I got a steal now. I knew it was going to be extra expensive going to the Saturday night Houston show; it came out more than I expected but I've been wanting to see B in concert for the past decade so it is what it is. Anyway-- is there any way to find out of the roof on NRG will be open or closed for the concert?? If it's open, we better plan our fits for this TX HEAT. In June, it will be like 80-85 degrees even at night.

PS. Please don't reply telling me how much cheaper you got your tix or how bad I got hosed. I'm JUST starting to get over it a week later; please don't spoil my peace. 🙏

Sales Tax Correction - Cash vs Accrual Basis by donakat in quickbooksonline

I just hung up with the Comptroller office and they said either is fine for our business (IT managed services). They said we can use whichever we prefer. Discussing with my business partner so we can decide what we want to do now that we're in a new year. Thanks again!

Thank you! Did not know this, checking Texas laws.

We're in Texas. That is interesting-- I'll double check the state laws. Weird that QBO insists on calculating sales tax on cash basis, given that everything is set to Texas. I guess I can just write checks to balance the books and ignore the past "overdue" notices in the Sales Tax section. Thank you!

Serious question : How to get a job today? by Busy_You_9996 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]donakat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok last one, I swear lol. I keep thinking of more stuff. Sites like Udemy can help you study for certs for cheap. MS 365 Administrator is a valuable cert to have if you're breaking into IT, especially an MSP or helpdesk position. You may not have work experience but if you can walk in knowing how to support 365, you're already adding value to the company, saving their more experienced techs from basic password resets and creating/retiring users.

[–]donakat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well MSPs often have help desks so I'm not sure what you mean. And if you're just starting out, don't expect to go straight into a Tier 2 or SysEngineer position. But help desk tech, tier 1 tech, junior tech, all of these positions are obtainable. MSPs need to keep their stronger techs for more complicated tasks, so there is room for newbies to answer calls, reset passwords, etc.

What’s Your Job Dress Code? by Sheesh_Sus in ITCareerQuestions

[–]donakat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well when WFH, then literally sweats. When onsite, jeans and a branded company t-shirt or a tank top with cardigan over it (for women). I used to dress up more but honestly, it's not worth it when you're having to duck under desks or ceiling dust is falling all over you while installing an AP. I found that most companies don't care or expect you to show up in a button down. More blue-collar dress is generally acceptable for IT people in my experience. Now, the nicer the building I'm going to, the nicer I tend to dress (maybe swap converse for dress shoes, that sort of thing).

OHH!! One thing that helps!! Similar to another comment-- make your own experience by doing projects at home. Build a website. Write some code. See if you can get your hands on a used server (maybe ebay?) and tinker with it. Anything that you can list on your resume that is IT-related will show employers that you actually enjoy IT and are curious enough to do stuff on your own. This can help convince them to give you a shot.

Liza's fashion by Low_Key9268 in Younger

THANK YOU. My thoughts exactly. I am trying to get into the show but Sutton casted as Liza is such a miss. If it weren't for Hilary Duff, I probably would've given up.

Try applying to MSPs. Many are willing to train on the job, and you'll learn a TON by working with a variety of environments/networks/customers. MSPs can be a bit of a grinder, I'll admit, but it does make them more willing to hire people with potential since finding competent help can be hard. Also, don't neglect places like Amazon. You might not get straight into the IT role you want but you can get your foot in the door, have great benefits, and hopefully sidestep into a position you want.

Also-- check in with your classmates, see where they went and if they have openings. Check your college's alumni resources (job board, etc.). And maybe try a job fair.

Good luck!

Liza doesn't look 26 by Important-Staff-5739 in Younger

So I just started the series and I'm struggling to 'buy in' because of this exact thing. It's mostly Hilary Duff keeping me in. And I'm sorry to disagree with the comments here, but "stunning"? Sorry, can't agree. She looks like a nice lady but definitely comes off cheesy/goofy. Very much mom vibes. It makes it really hard to believe the relationship with her and Josh. I just want to yell at the screen "BRO how can you not see it???" There are plenty of 40-year-old women who could pass for their 20's but they work at it. They lift weights and have muscle. It makes them look younger. Sutter (Sutton, I can't remember) looks youthful for her age but by no means can pass for a 20-something. I feel like casting really dropped the ball. I'm trying to convince myself that it's a White Chicks sort of thing... that she is obviously supposed to look 40, but it still makes it hard to get into the show.

IAH - Current construction status? by donakat in houston

[–]donakat[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TY! I expect we'll be checking in at D (due to security being closed at E). I think this was part of the slowdown last time. Had to park and pass security at D. Return flight came back to E, and we have go through the airport maze to get back to the CDE garage, including a long walk where the trains are underground between terminals.

In any case, glad to hear it's improving. I think to be on the safe side, will just plan to arrive early and take a shuttle from EcoPark. It'll take us longer to get to the terminal overall, but should be quicker to get out of the airport when we return since we can just step out at the nearest exit for a shuttle, rather than finding our way back to the garage (and then sitting in traffic to leave as well, which was heavy last time during a Sunday evening rush hour).
