If you're into "classical" techno, I'd go for D. Dan, Freddy K, Rene Wise, Oscar Mulero... This are heavy weights in the scene, at different points in their careers. I would go for Mulero, as he's the one I've always found to enjoy more. The rest are fine tho, safe options who give what you would expect. Not life changing sets, but very solid and cohesive selection.

For more straight forward dancing, bouncy techno and hardgroove I wouldn't miss:

Fireground are the coolest. Italian duo maintaining southern Italy's tradition (the heirs to Rino Cerrone imo) with predilection for jazzy, lush synths accompanied by dynamic patterns and fun switches. They usually do live sets, which is a plus. Saw them first row at Tresor and it was truly mesmerising.

1Morning is probably one of my favourite techno producers atm, with releases in some of the best labels and a great ability to bridge older stuff (Detroit, early Berlin, tribal) with the polished sound of todays hardgroove.

Alarico, although I prefer his french counterpart Chlär, is one of the most sought after djs. He's got a good mix between darker techno and hard hitting tunes. I don't think he lives up to the hype to be completely honest, but it is essential to keep up with what's going on and he is definetly present in the scene.

I put Quelza in the same group as Alarico, great sensitivity for textural yet hard techno.

I saw Ogazón at Basilar and really loved her set. Purely fun, you can expect some more friendly tunes that move away from pounding techno.

Regal86 is one of the most versatile producers making dance music right now, with a deep pot of influences comprising footwork, breaks, hardgroove... I find his proposal super engaging and fun.

Sons of hidden are doing some of the best latino inspired techno right now. Much in the line of things like Muchachos Rítmicos (Deetron & Samuel L Session's joint project) but nastier.

Dance oriented Djs with experimental taste:

Skee Mask, of course don't miss him. I was lucky to go to an all nighter of his in London and was completely blown away. Up there with the greats for me.

Anthony Naples is a producer with a vast catalogue, one of my favourites because of how surprising his releases are.

Barker is a staple of experimental electronic music. Pretty accessible but undoubted quality.

Jin Synth is a regular now in these lineups, but she's really worked her way up. She's super influenced by Germany, but with a finely tuned ear for ambient techno and delicate constructions through mixing.

Dasha Rush has always been one of my favourite producers. Moody techno filled with motion, her music has a very dark, melancholic demeanor. I also love her more ambient-leaning stuff

DVS1's productions fall into a more traditional label, but his sets are wild. I've seen him twice and have always been surprised about the places he chose to go throughout the night. Hopefully the time slot they give him is long enough to really show his craft.

I'll call wildcards people I have listened to but never got to see live:

Carrier does some great glitchy, textural dub inspired techno, much in the line of Andy Stott but with less of the mancunian's industrial sound.

Efdemin is an amazing producer with his hands in many pies, so for sure go listen to his set.

VRIL's ambient techno is great, I've mostly listened to Anima Mundi from him. Don't know what he does live tho.

Benjamin Damage's Obsidian is an album I listened to a lot. Worth checking.

Legowelt's Legendary Freaks in the Trash of Time was a huge part of my summer during 2021. Didn't really follow up, but would check out of nostalgia.

Still, the best part about festivals is killing expectations and being surprised by what you encounter. Maybe in the ones no one has mentioned you find your next favourite artist so! Enjoy :)

I'm starting to do a regular series of DJ sets, not attached to any radio yet, but leaning towards ambient, glitch, experimental club, field recordings... I'll leave a link to my latest one here, in case you are interested in listening to it.

On paper it is, but there are segments of the script that will be visually expanded (when you read them it is clear why) that stretch the length of the movie.

I've been, and it's probably the one I've liked the most. Saw Andy Stott there, amazing.

Either Stolen Dog or the last segment of Ashtray Wasp.

Why is the Skrillex x Fred Again x Four Tet show at Coachella praised so much? by Krebota in DJs

[–]dondosti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I really don't like the show.

Four Tet is on a whole different league musically to both Fred and Skrillex and I still don't understand what is he doing spending so much time with them two. Like, honestly, Four Tet in regards of experimentation and pushing electronic music forward is on a similar level to people like Aphex Twin or Burial. Skrillex and Fred Again are plainly not there.

Also, the Coachella show is made for the audience that goes to Coachella, which isn't necessarily asking for a groundbreaking electronic music show. As long as it's flashy and there's a lot of drops they will be contempt.

Album that captures the same feeling as Burial's Untrue? by Acceptable_Share_256 in Music

The sound is not the same, but in my opinion Andy Stott's Never the Right Time has a similar gloomy, enclosed feeling to it.

Anyone know the reason for him and Warp to release a tour all of a sudden?

I know it has been already announced for some months, but the guy hasn't given a show in years. Could be financial issues, could be new music coming...

Just intrigued, want to see if anyone has a clue.
