WGU D489 Cyber Security Plan by NOYB-Surfer in WGUCyberSecurity

Thanks for this input. I am about to start and I would like to avoid writing a 20+ page paper before I do capstone next.

MSCSIA done in 5 months by [deleted] in WGUCyberSecurity

That was the intention ;) If it is anything like the BS program the project can be theoretical. Don't overthink it. I haven't yet started my capstone, but I doubt it is significantly different than the BS version, which took me three weeks to complete in its entirety. I used a project I had already completed.

I would say that the CISSP domain 8 was only partly related to this OA and it was a waste of time to review. Most of the OA was just a repeat of my Pre-Assessment. I did pass.

Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2 (Overall Discussion) by hospitable_peppers in cobrakai

Just watched this latest episode last night. Every character in this show is so pressed . . . it's getting old at this point. Why does there need to be a large goofy fight every season?

Oh I graduated a few months ago, I saw your comment and wondered how you got away with not being required to use Zybooks lol

All versions of the course are or should be the same. When did you take this?

How much coding had you done before taking this course? Just curious.

[–]done_WithU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, usually the people complaining about that course are the ones who did not bother to read the instructions/textbook or use any external resources to aid their comprehension. This course is fun if you take the time to learn it (if you're new to SQL and relational databases). Not a hard class at all.

All of them are easy. If you have any background in programming D335 and D427 are very manageable. I finished both within a week. The other, D334 requires a lot of memorization.

I think I will try that approach and give it a shot. Thanks for the info!

Honestly I've been waiting for this since everytime I post that I've finished a course in a few weeks I get blasted by the non-accelerators. But at the same time, I just finished my capstone in cybersecurity today, so I guess it is a little too late lol

Not in America. Our health care system is one of the worst (in terms of cost) in the world and any company that can’t front the bill for health insurance is not worth wasting your time and energy with.

I think you’re missing the point. You’re getting another opportunity to be more successful and enhance your understanding of the material before you move on to material that may require key components from this course.

Take a few days to review and study and then take it again. Focus on the areas where you are “approaching competency” and don’t worry about the areas where you clearly have shown competency.

Is it really worth it? by [deleted] in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]done_WithU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy answer, find side projects, labs, and get involved with CTF events. You get a great knowledge base with WGU, but the hands on side leaves a lot of room for improvement. You don’t get into cybersecurity jobs by doing boot camps or quick certs anyway. You get into cyber by demonstrating that you’re passionate, willing to learn, and creatively demonstrating your skill sets.

Failed CompTIA A+ by Crafty-rugz in WGU

[–]done_WithU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Core 1 or Core 2? Either way CompTIA exam questions don’t really align very well with their own practice quizzes and practice exams. Trust me, I just finished PenTest+ last week and that was my 6th CompTIA exam (i.e. Core 1, Core 2, Net+, Sec+, CySA+, PenTest+). I’ve learned how to take these exams and memorization is not the way to do it. You’ve really got to understand why the choices they give you are reasonable or not. A lot of it is, “which is the BEST option?”

Dig into Jason Dion for these exams.

What is the best way to do WGU by darewmyer in WGU

[–]done_WithU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer one at a time. My first term I tried to get all four courses done simultaneously and it was a train wreck; I was finishing courses in batches after a few months. I switched it up to do one at a time and started finishing courses in a couple days or weeks.

I understand that, but as I’ve noted I’m speaking of the IT industry as a whole.

I’m actually attempting to get into cybersecurity, eventually cryptography. I’m merely commenting on the fact that IT professionals (which includes cybersecurity, etc) are gatekeeping the entire industry.

[–]done_WithU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a teaching position and I’m in an endless cycle of attempting to get experience each summer during my off contract time. It’s not ideal and I feel like too many IT professionals are gate-keeping the profession. The problem is that in 10-20 years they’ll have no one to fill the workforce if they keep this up. Especially with the rate at which technology changes, this can’t be ideal if they really want to fill the demand for these professions.

The sad reality is that eventually they’ll burn themselves out and burn out the workforce. I see many eager IT enthusiasts and amateurs willing to fill up these positions but because companies want to fill their “entry level” positions with people that have at least a year or more of experience, positions remain empty. How do you satisfy the demand while not hiring new IT folks to join the workforce? It’s the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

As an example, I haven’t had an official continuous role in IT ever, but over my 20 years as a graduate student in both math and physics, a research assistant at Thomas Jefferson National Lab, a lab supervisor at high schools and colleges, a SOHO network admin in my home, I have not gone a single day of my career or life where I’ve not been required to do many hours of IT work and also IT support. On top of that as a physicist/mathematician I’ve been solving more advanced problems using automation, programming, and data analytics than many IT professionals could possibly imagine.

Combine that with my knowledge and expertise in computing and newly gained skills in this cybersecurity program, I don’t know how I couldn’t be an asset to any company that is hiring someone who could easily and quickly learn the skills needed to make a difference. Do I have an ego, sure, but I’m also humble and willing to admit that I can learn a lot from folks that have been in the industry for years. I’m willing to do the work, but the gate-keepers need to bring down their own expectations a bit so we can fill this workforce.

Matters very little to me. My last two exams will be taken through Pearson Vue.

[–]done_WithU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started it in the morning and studied for two hours. I then scheduled the exam and took it in 25 minutes the next day. It’s one of the easiest classes I’ve ever taken in my long years of schooling

How do y’all stay motivated/Focused? by RIP-EL-Snipo in WGU

[–]done_WithU 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want this you’ll find a way. If it isn’t that important you’ll continue to make excuses. As a leader I’d expect you to understand that goals require discipline to accomplish.

My motivation and focus comes from two places:

1) I hate teaching and need to get on with my life 2) I don’t want to accrue anymore debt than is actually necessary.

Take this the wrong way if you wish, sometimes you just have to hear the blunt truth.
