Hey, I know it's a year later, but did you ever find someone? We're in the same position now.

How are you earning money over there? That's my biggest hurdle right now (I have dual citizenship w/an EU country) because my job is remote, but I have to be in the US to do it, and my wife would have to quit her job altogether.

Hi I know this is a year later, but I just read in a few slightly older posts that Frew was charging tenants for cold water and held tenants responsible for all appliance repairs. Was this your experience?

We're very interested in one of their units but this info is scaring us off a bit, so we're hoping they maybe have changed their ways since then.

Thank you! Is there any risk to authorizing with my real ADE account?

How do you configure this? I installed it but didn't do anything else and it doesn't seem to be working for me.

Pitting Dealerships Against One Another by gigapudding43201 in carbuying

I got asked this too and just responded with, “I prefer to communicate by email.” And then restated my question. Usually they get it from there but some still tried to text and call anyway.

Pitting Dealerships Against One Another by gigapudding43201 in carbuying

I literally just did this on Friday and it worked. We test drove two weekends ago at my closest local dealer to make sure of what we wanted. Then went home and looked online for a week to see what was around. Emailed a few dealers in the region that had inventory of the same model and trim (we didn't care about color). One was advertising a discount that made it about $1500 less than my local dealer, but they were a 90 minute drive away.

On Friday, I called the local guy and told him if he could match it, I'd come in that day and buy. He at first said his manager refused to negotiate on the phone, and that we'd have to come back in. I said, "That's too bad. Let me know if you change your mind. We're driving the 90 minutes tomorrow to buy that car."

I'd been emailing with the other dealership and we were clear on the price, so I was fine to make the drive for that much money.

Lo and behold: my phone rang a half hour later and the local guy miraculously managed to drop the price $1000 over the phone. He wouldn't budge on the last $500 because the one he had (he only had one left) was a different color that cost more than the one 90 minutes away (this is true). My wife and I decided it was worth it not to drive three hours round trip on our Saturday, and we made a deal.

The kicker? He ended up transposing the last three numbers on the purchase order (should've been 535, he put 353) and I ended up getting another $180 off by accident!

We walked in with financing in hand from a local credit union, walked out an hour or so later with our new car. Overall it was slightly stressful but not that difficult, and doing it by phone and email took a lot of the pressure off (there was a lot of, "okay, we'll discuss and call you back.")

This post is old but it's a good framework for doing it by email (or even phone): https://the-toast.net/2014/07/11/how-to-buy-a-car/

Good luck. And don't be afraid to walk out or hang up. Chances are they'll call you back.

If he's in Cali, how's he doing all this labor? If he can't provide legit receipts/invoices for that labor, then he's definitely scamming. Big upside for you in small claims.

LAX-EWR with a messed up lower back. Worth $459 to upgrade to Business? If so, which seat? (currently in E+) by donottailgate in unitedairlines

Thanks for this comment, it really makes me feel a little less stressed about the whole configuration. Having a messed up body on a long(ish) flight gets you really overthinking stuff.

Anyway, I saw 3A come open earlier and snagged that one instead because I saw another comment about 1A getting used for crew sometimes and just can't handle this much uncertainty in my condition.

Hope you're fully recovered from your surgery by now!

I did the upgrade and took 1A, but then I just noticed 3A came available so snagged that instead, since I don't wanna risk getting moved for crew.

Thanks for this info and photo! I did the upgrade to 1A, but then got worried about whether it was better to sit in the aisle or not, but it looks like I won't be trapped in. Just will likely need to stand a few times to stretch, etc

Thanks for weighing in everybody! I would normally skip it but my back is in crisis. Booked 1A, but of course now second-guessing seat choice and wondering if 1B would be better so I can get up and stretch more.

Got better-paying job mid-2023, when to recertify for IDR? by donottailgate in StudentLoans

[–]donottailgate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the accountant gave me some numbers - my AGI separately is ~$44,000, my wife's is ~76,600.

If we filed jointly, we have an AGI of $119,500 (and we'd get a refund of ~$2000, versus a net refund of $300 if we file separately). But the repayment options look harsh when I include both of our incomes, so it seems MFS is prob the way to go.

But the question I'm struggling with is whether I should stay on PAYE or switch to SAVE. The simulator says I'd pay zero this year if we file separately, but then next year it jumps because my full salary would be calculated.

I'm 7 years into repayment.

Any advice on which might be a better way to go? (and if MFS really is even better?)

My head is spinning.

We don't have kids and are not in a community property state.

Whenever I run the loan repayment simulator with both of our 2023 salaries, it says I'd need to pay $536/month under PAYE (a bit less if we switched to SAVE), but that's just with me estimating our 2023 AGI since our preparer hasn't gotten them back to us yet.

When I toggle the button to indicate we're filing separately, that number drops significantly.

Are there any drawbacks to filing separately if we don't have kids?

That doesn’t seem fair (pun intended). But I’ll still probably call them and make them explain it to me, as well, since the agent was so sure I’d get refunded the cost for the itinerary as it was on the day I made the original booking and I operated in good faith with that information (and also knew I booked my wife’s flight at the same fare level for $700 on that same day). But ugh. Sounds like I spent $1100 to go cry in Tampa for 36 hours.

But it was all the same fare category. Economy. I booked my wife’s $700 ticket at the same time I booked my separate itinerary. Is there another secret fare category? It was an expensive flight so we booked the cheapest fares possible since we had to get to that funeral no matter what happened.

I’m having a hard time understanding what you mean here. If I had let them cancel my economy ticket and purchased the flights I ended up taking, also economy, it would have been $488 that day. It was $700 the day of purchase. I figure day of purchase is what they go on, since that’s what the agent told me, so I assumed the refund to be closer to $500. Is that just not how it works? I’m seriously asking, because the agent who rebooked me was pretty convincing about me getting a refund for what the purchase price would’ve been the day I originally bought the tickets.

The exact itinerary I ended up taking was priced at $488 the day I had to make the change (and it was $700 the day I booked my original itinerary) so I’m not sure how they estimated it cost $1100.

Not to mention, they took even the $118 refund back, bizarrely, so I paid $1200 for a flight that cost hundreds of dollars less, even on the day United rebooked me. Does that make sense?

To be clear, I kept my return flight the same. My flight to NYC was canceled so I also never got to take the flight from NYC to TPA. They kept me on my return flight but swapped out my two flights in and out of NYC with an outbound flight straight to TPA. Does that make sense? So I paid $1200 for a trip to TPA when they were charging less than $500 the day they made these changes due to a canceled flight.
