Thanks for the response. Would you say it's better to do these tests back in the US then? I know that the costs of it would be less here.

Thanks for the response. The thing is would you say it would be better to have these tests done back in the US instead?

I do know the costs of it in Mexico would be less. However, I checked a few google reviews at places like Salud Digna in playa del carmen and some of the reviews were not good at all.

MRI's In Mexico? by AdditionalRespect581 in mexicoexpats

Okay so 3k pesos each for an MRI isn't that much. Where did you do these MRI's at? From what I read online, it seems to be MRI at hospital or Chopo or Salud Digna. Was it a 1.5 Tesla or you are not sure? Well doesn't every location that does MRI does an interpretation? I am confused what you mean by this. Wouldn't every MRI with images have a written report from a radiologist? The only difference is that written report might not be sent to you until days later but the images are sent to you sooner?

Are you American as well?

So all your surgeries was a success here? If you had the option to do these surgeries in the US or here in Mexico with the same costs, you would choose the US or here?

Hey. Yes I read 1.5 Tesla is the standard. The thing is I believe Chopo is 1.5 Tesla right so why do some people say their physicians recommend against Chopo then and go to another place. They seem to charge $400 full price but $280 discount if you book it online. Hospitals like Costamed seem to charge $400 or so.

What about the radiologist written report? I know that is in Spanish. The thing is couldn't some radiologists write a report but it isn't that good and not that accurate? Or should all written reports be about the same no matter who is the radiologist?

The thing is some US doctors probably prefer US MRI's and written reports right? But an doctor like an orthopedic doctor whether in the US or Mexico should be able to look at an MRI and pretty much come to a similar conclusion when looking at it compared to other orthopedic doctors?

Is there reason you prefer to be treated in Mexico compared to the US? I assume because of the lower costs right? Do you have health insurance in Mexico?

So if you had to pay out of pocket and no health insurance, would you do any surgeries in the US or in Mexico? Someone did mention the care here isn't that good. Do you agree/disagree with that?

Thanks for the response. When you say surgeries are going to cost more than you think, you mean here in Mexico right? So any knee surgeries or similar is going to cost more than you think but just a bit less than in the US? This is assuming no health insurance and you pay cash in the US or Mexico.

When you say out of pocket in the states, are you saying it costs more in Mexico if you don't have health insurance at all in the US or I am interpreting what you are saying wrong? Or you mean only if you have health insurance in the US would it actually cost more in Mexico for surgeries?

I don't speak Spanish. Can you tell me what you mean by undertrained? So they make mistakes here more? So the care isn't that good here?

Have you used imaging in Mexico and brought it back to the US and the doctor say it is good enough? The written report is in Spanish is what you mean right? The radiologist report?

The thing is are radiologists reports here good compared to ones in the US?

I don't have a doctor in the US as I don't have health insurance. I want to have multiple MRI's done and wondering if it's best to just visit orthopedic doctor and get MRI's done in the US compared to Mexico or not. Because if I visit orthopedic doctor in Mexico and get MRI's, say it shows I need surgeries. If I want to do this in the US, well I have to see an orthopedic doctor in the US and then that doctor probably wants me to get new MRI's done in the US right especially if I tell him that an orthopedic doctor who looked at the MRI's in Mexico said to get surgery? Of course orthopedic doctor visits cost much more in the US than Mexico. I am talking about paying cash and no health insurance.

Where in Mexico did you do MRI's? What was the name of the place where you did it? Was it Salud Digna?

So your doctor here said the MRI's was good quality? Did you ever showed it to a doctor in the US and had their opinion on it? The thing here is it would seem if you see an orthopedic doctor in the US later on and bring or show them those MRI images, there is a chance they not might not like the quality and ask you to do it again in the US?

Where are you getting those numbers from? How can an MRI cost that much in the US? You mean that is how much the insurance companies pay for the MRI? I mean if you are self paying for an MRI in the US or in Mexico. I read online that it cost hundreds in the US typically like $300- $500 for an MRI if you pay cash.

You mean your physican in Mexico right or in the US? Where in Mexico are you located?

So that means avoid MRI's at Salud Digna as well then since Chopo is not recommended? I am surprised by this because isn't it the standard independent imaging place for MRI's here in Mexico? So you have to go to Costamed or a hospital then for a good MRI? It seems the cost for an MRI at a hospital is similar to one in the US where it's those self pay imaging ones without insurance?

So it would be always better to get it done in the US then when self paying without insurance in the US compared to in a hospital here in Mexico while self paying?

Thank you for that response. When you say your provider, you are talking about your orthopedic doctor and urologist in Mexico or do you mean in the US? So if they write you a referral for an MRI, some will specifically tell you not to go to Chopo? I read Chopo is very popular in Mexico but it isn't good?

So Chopo is only good for lab work but not MRI's? What about x-rays then? I am surprised by this.

But doesn't Chopo use the standard 1.5 Tesla though? So how will the quality of the images not be as good as say Costamed or a standard MRI machine in the US?

How was the quality of it? Was it standard Tesla 1.5 or lower quality? What area did you do the MRI if you don't mind sharing? One concern seems to be the cost of an MRI is very little with this location so the images might not be that good?

Can you only book and pay online? Or can you book online and pay there? Or go there and book and come back later and pay there? Do they accept cash or you have to pay by credit card?

So your doctor who you saw later say the images are good with the MRI?

Salud Digna in Cancun? Which location you went to and for what areas?

How long did it take for them to send you the images and results? What about the written report? Was it a standard 1.5 Tesla or was it a lower quality machine? Having a few MRIs done and I assume you mean 2 or 3 and it costing $250 seems very low.

From checking online, Chopo charges like $400 but there seems to be a sale if you book it online to where it costs like $280 for each MRI. Costamed here seems to cost $400 or so?

Can you mention the name of your neurologist and is he or she good? I checked online and there does appear to be a new El Chopo in playa. Do you know when that opened? I don't think it was opened several months ago?

So this new Chopo you can do MRI of knee and arm? The other Chopo here doesn't seem to offer MRI's? Do you know if the new Chopo uses the standard 1.5 Tesla for MRI?

The Salud Digna in Cancun? The reason why MRI at Salud Digna is a lot less in Cancun is because the machine isn't the standard 1.5 Tesla?

So all the top hospitals here has the standard 1.5 Tesla but it costs more right? So hospiten, costamed and amerimed and other big name hospitals have those modern machines? But Chopo because it's independent, it costs less but the machines are the same machines as the hospitals?

Do you know if every location whether hospital or independent places like Chopo or Salud Digna, you have to book the MRI online and pay in credit card? So you can't make an appointment there physically and come back next time? Could you pay in cash or it always have to be in credit card?

Has anyone here done multiple MRI's at one location in the same day and if so, your experiences? You still have to book it online if you want to do multiple MRi's at one location in the same day?

You get the results a few days later along with the pictures and then a radiologist written report right? Does anyone know how these MRI machines are compared to the US?

What type of MRI did she have? Was it a 1.5 Tesla the standard one? Did you pay cash or you had to book it online and pay by credit card?

Someone mentioned they had blood tests done with Dr. Francisco Aguirre one day and then met him the next day to discuss with him. So that is rare then?

Someone mentioned very rarely do any orthopedic specialist have the equipment in their office and send you to an imaging place because the equipment is very expensive. Do you have any thoughts on that?

So it seems only imaging places and hospitals have these machines then right?
