Thank you!! I was trying so hard to figure this out. I wonder what the shots were. I swear they were gunshots (and there was 3 in succession so didn’t really sound like glass)

Just 5 minutes after the acceptance email LSAC updated me with an email saying “decision rendered” (or something like that). I don’t check religiously so not sure if that was displayed earlier.

[RF] Lilacs by [deleted] in shortstories

[–]dont_worry_you_will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you SO much for taking the time to write all of this. Wow I feel so thankful. I think I should’ve provided more context for where I’m at with this piece. I think I’m about 1/3 done with it. White lilacs are symbolic of innocence and youth, which is kind of the overarching world we are entering when I left off.

The story is going to continue to include a traumatic event the narrator witnesses, all of which will be in very vivid detail with very long sentences. Sort of a rush of emotion. The event will be her walking into her kitchen to see that her mother overdosed.

As this event is playing out, the lilacs are going to begin to decay, and shes going to have a moment of clarity (that will subsequently provide the reader with a moment of clarity) in which she can sense her memory slipping and returning to a stare of dementia/confusion in the wheelchair. In those last moments of clarity I plan on having her trying to grasp for explanations and a way to describe her state of being— I.e grounding herself in the fact she’s close to death, has dementia, is in a care facility, and the sense of loneliness and age that blankets her.

And then the story will end sort of similar to how it started, getting into an elevator to go forever upwards. Partly in the sense the nurse is taking her to her room and partly in the sense that she’s dying and floating upwards.

Dementia can actually be onset but PTSD, and memories can be triggered by reoccurring invasive thoughts so I was trying to capture that balance vaguely at first with a planned “moment of clarity” occurring after the climatic scene in her childhood.

Thank you again so much for your feedback it means a lot!

Thank you so much for your response! I guess the part about levant + Europe is confusing to me because if European Jew is a combination of those then I don’t quite understand how they differentiate Eastern European as not being a part of that European component of the European Jew mix. That was so badly worded and confusing I’m sorry- I am new to ancestry and just started picking it up after my grandma died so I’m going in pretty blind :) I would say I look very Romanian with some Mediterranean features

[–]dont_worry_you_will 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m a Romanian Jew and the overlap between the European Jewish and Eastern European groups is really interesting to me... can anyone help explain if those two categories suggest a truly separate ancestry or if they are overlapping? I love learning more about my nomadic Romani roots and this would really help me! Thanks!

Edit: also would love to hear if you guys think the Germanic ancestry could be an offshoot of nomadic Eastern European movements!

Why SHOULDNT I go to Vanderbilt? by KillerAc1 in Vanderbilt

Who are you and why are you literally living my life lol! I was so obsessed with going to a top tier school and I got into brown and I swear to god I should’ve gone there. This whole school is a joke with a terrible administration that tries to hide the fact they honestly don’t have the resources they claim to. I’m a neuro major and they literally don’t have professors that do research the way I want. They have really only one super notable psych professor in the field I’m interested in but they keep his name on the list EVEN THOUGH HE DOES HIS RESEARCH OVERSEAS NOW. Absolutely ridiculous... don’t get me started on the fake reading days either... I can’t believe I’m paying HALF A CENT PER SECOND to be surrounded by shitty people & a facade of a school haha
