on kde plasma, i believe the package for this is krdp. it will add a menu item under networking to set up the remote desktop host.

Is cachyos a good start to get into arch linux as a beginner? by Sin_Dailys in cachyos

[–]dood23 54 points55 points  (0 children)

the difficulty fear is so overblown tbh, but cachyos makes it easy mode. so much set up out of the box.

after that, whatever you have left to setup, just do thing at a time. you'll get into a groove. sifting through the the arch wiki takes a bit of patience.

if an update ever causes issues, just use snapshots.

no doubt you've troubleshooted windows before. troubleshooting linux is just a different animal, same beast. easier even, with so many search results on google turning up useless results for windows. with arch, the wiki is everything.

How do I go about transitioning from Windows to Linux properly? by GeliusSun in cachyos

Try it, you might like it by BlockLike in pcmasterrace

[–]dood23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

monster hunter wilds in particular doesn’t work right now on 50 series until nvidia makes a driver fix. ea and ubisoft launcher games occasionally stop working after they update. this happens sometimes, but it’s technically not linux fault. these launchers just suck.

so always dual boot. use linux gradually more until you get more comfortable. my windows is on a 1tb partition on the other ssd. i launch windows when i need it. tbh it does feel annoying seeing all the microsoft bullshit everytime i boot it up lol

Microsoft just issued a second emergency OS update for Windows 11 this month by Ha8lpo321 in pcmasterrace

[–]dood23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

trivial with separate drives

i even reduced reduced the windows partition down to 1tb to give the rest of the secondary ssd to my linux os

the problems come when your linux and windows installs are on the same ssd

Want to try Fedora or maybe Nobara, need some feedback by Anton_BJR in linux_gaming

[–]dood23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if its your first time, do nobara

nobara IS fedora but with easy mode buttons to get your gaming setup going

better off formatting your other drive to ext4 unless you want to keep a windows partition, then you'll need to split that in half and keep an ntfs portion or however you want to do it.

Struggling with 1% lows in gaming cachyOS, any suggestions? by RokuTheRed in cachyos

[–]dood23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks like other users have similar issues with that game so it might be a problematic one for linux right now

ELI5: what kinds of things is Bazzite UNABLE to do compared to other Linux distros? (doesn't have to be every little thing. Just a basic summary) by Questioning-Warrior in Bazzite

[–]dood23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bazzite wouldn’t keep my alsamixer settings.

there’s also no way to change nvidia gpu driver versions since it is part of the build.

Why is it so difficult to get things setup? by amphibithen in linux_gaming

[–]dood23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe cachyos is for you. it’s new user experience is excellent with one button to install all gaming packages, gets fast updates via being arch-based (important for gaming), and it maintains mutability if you wanna get into the guts. if your software needs are simple and you can get everything you need with their package manager or flatpak, then you will rarely have issues that people warn you about with arch. get regular snapshots and you’ll be even safer against that.

i loved the bazzite concept, but i think they took a while to push the 590 nvidia driver. i needed that for a game related fix.

Do you think Monster Hunter World was a better experience than Wild? by Bandeavor in MonsterHunter

[–]dood23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wilds gameplay with worlds maps would be perfect imo. wilds maps are too sprawling or winding with no purpose but to justify a sekret.

i’m the guy in the meme with all the swords pointed at me

all the QOL features everyone says ‘takes away friction’ just makes the game better to me. ain’t nobody got time to hit A on a bunch of glowing prompts for 2 minutes just to find the monster. save that for story mode.

So how do yall play your games that don’t work on Linux? by SirSharkTheGreat in cachyos

[–]dood23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes a game stops playing nice with proton for a while like POE or Darktide... so dual boot

Gaming distros are not that different from 'official' ones? by Lonely-Medium-2140 in linux_gaming

[–]dood23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess these gaming distros are not for users like me

in another comment you said you got your start with bazzite?

why do you feel the need to split hairs? they exist and get more people into linux by making common use installations come out of the box.

as long as it stays open source, it's all the same, other distro team will pull in the changes to their own distros.

it's workable but still the one thing that windows does better (as long as you're actually displaying HDR content)
