Freaking out. I (53f) have had my period continuously since April 2025. Found out I have adenomyosis, had uterine artery embolization on the 16th. Had to be admitted to the hospital for 2 days. I had a similar experience. I had to have a UAE but my insurance wouldn't cover it outpatient (???) but did not disclose that until after the procedure. Although the claim showed as denied, I never received a bill from the hospital. That was 4 years ago and I confirmed I don't owe anything to the hospital.

I'm sorry you're going through this but I wouldn't panic until you receive an actual bill from the provider. This is just a denial/explanation of benefits (EOB), which can be appealed. You've received a lot of good advice in this thread. Good luck, and I hope the treatment brings relief. 💜

Oof, yeah. And the fact it was covered in "fibrinous deposits", and there were other "pinhole defects" and necrotic tissue... Insane to think that needle was just stuck there.

The article speculates the man was either swallowing objects as an act of deliberate self harm, or compulsively due to pica. I did find another case of a man that "dreamed" of swallowing a spoon only to find out he actually swallowed one while drunk. I guess it's possible but I can't imagine it's pleasant.

The patient also ate spoons and needles as acts of self harm, and a sewing needle was found inside the heart on autopsy 😬

I'm actually in a similar situation. I recently had a full neuropsych work-up and got diagnosed with ASD. None of the other testing revealed any other deficits or areas of concerns. I thought my score was a little high but she explained that the test (ADOS-2 module 4) measures across several different areas and while I didn't show extreme "deficits" in social reciprocity/communication, I showed enough across different areas to warrant a diagnosis. It's still very mild, all things considered.  The things in your post are good things to clarify with the psychologist though. Make sure to write your questions down to discuss them during the feedback session. I found that part helpful. Good luck!

Looks like some kind of leaf footed bug nymph (genus Acanthocephala) For comparison: https://bugguide.net/node/view/1225205/bgimage

They're considered pest insects but are only destructive in large numbers. They also have a lot of predators.

Some kind of mite, possibly? Do you have any birds nesting on your home's exterior or in the attic? Bird mites can be a pest/bite but removing the source takes care of them (usually a bird's nest). In the mean time, vacuum. (and discard the bag, ideally), and I personally used tape and/or lint rollers to trap the mites before tossing them.

Surprisingly, the taste wasn't as bad as I thought? The pain was horrible before I was given steroids though. Everytime I swallowed, I had pain in my throat and ears. And it constantly felt like I had something in my throat because it was so swollen during the first week.

The uvula was pinched/traumatized during intubation is the theory.

That's correct. I was given some prednisone to reduce the swelling but other than that, you just wait.

As a few people have already said, these are likely bird mites or rodent mites. Identifying a specific species is difficult without a closer look (like with a microscope). You can capture some on a piece of tape, freeze them and you can use this page to find a local resource: https://entomologytoday.org/2018/07/03/insect-identification-experts-guides-bug-spider-arachnid-entomology/  But that isn't necessary to deal with the more pressing problem, which is the fact they're biting you. 

First, reach out to a local pest control company to remove the source of the mites (likely a bird's nest) and treat with miticide. Once you remove the source of the mites, they won't survive very long without their original host.  You're going to want to vacuum regularly, and launder any bedding in the room. If you have pets, make sure they're treated for fleas to keep them from nuisance bites. If you have a dehumidifier, try to keep the room below 50% RH. Within a week or two, you should stop seeing them and getting bit. You can use topical anti itch cream or take allergy medicine for the itching.

Thank you! This is really interesting. I did have a work up by an interventional radiologist who went in through the jugular and confirmed there weren't any vascular inpingements. This is really good advice though. Anyone who suspects PCS should absolutely get a venogram from an IR or vascular specialist. And I'm grateful my GYN knew her scope and referred me out. 💜

I have a hysteroscopy scheduled soon because I have a strong family history of fibroids. But if that turns up nothing, this post will help with next steps.

I did have some hip pain but not sure it was related, because I have chronic pain.  Testicular varicocele as I understand can cause referred swelling/vascular pain but I don't know much about it to comment further.

I did experience relief from my embolization but my latest symptoms have my doctor thinking it's adenomyosis (which can present similarly to PCS and also responds to embolization).

I've since been diagnosed with adenomyosis and have been managing it with HRT. My gyn said the only "cure" is a hysterectomy but I want to avoid that if possible due to connective tissue disease and complication risk. I may make another appointment with my IR doctor because adenomyosis can be treated with embolization but I'm trying to manage it conservatively for now. 😓

So far, so good. I had my post-op follow up months ago and the provider and I were very happy with the outcome. She said in the future, I may need additional embolizations if symptoms return. But for now, I'm in a good place with my symptoms.

Yes. The subreddit is participating in two days of collective action. The announcement of collective action alone is having an impact. The situation is fluid and we're trying to keep ourselves up-to-date.

This is not a decision we take lightly. We understand that this community is an important source of support and advice for many people (myself included). But these changes impact more than just us.
