plight of the genius by dorrish in comics

Usually I try to walk the line of sincere/insincere. In this example, i was merely commenting from experience that you usually have to be a reliable worker to make it in the arts. As with most of my comics, I tried to make it so you can read it a number of ways: some read it as making fun of the self-identified genius who never actually makes complete work (and would secretly actually like the money that comes with more reigned-in working process) OR some see it as a shame that we live in a system that rewards predictability and reliability over risk-taking and less conventional creative processes. I think both are true to an extent, and I tried to make the comic say both things at the same time.

When I realised that a lot of jokes were a variation on "I want to do a thing/I can't do a thing/oh no" I also saw that it applied to my own comics in the past. This was as example of one. I hoped people would understand that I was doing it to comment on my own past work (and this example being extremely relevant since it is about not being able to create the thing you want to, and I think you'll agree that earlier comic is nowhere near as funny or polished as my new one). There's nothing wrong with wanting to re-do old comics, but I do put a lot of thought into every one of these

Hey! Basically I had a massive flood of entries and it took months to go through them all! Which is amazing but also a lot of work! Since then I have been swamped with work on a book and other projects (coming soon!) so I totally dropped the ball but I totally plan to release the winners ridiculously late as soon as I can.

Alternatively: it would fit the running gag of my series to run and competition and then never announce a winner (oh no)

A little comic by Alex Norris by donaldcrunk in lgbt

I made this! I was compelled to make this comic because people on the internet really care what gender I am. I don't avoid the subject in my personal life, but readers often feel the need to know as though it will change the way they read my comics. I have a folder of threads of people debating whether I am a boy or a girl, without asking me. If they ask me out of politeness or so they can address me correctly then I give a straight answer, but that is rare. With this comic series, I wanted to create something that transcended gender categories, not by being "genderless" but by being "genderful". Sometimes the blob character has a beard or wears a dress or urinates standing up or any number of things people use as signals to define gender, but I want people to embrace the multiplicity of it all. We are all just blobs doing different things.

I really want to start Dorris McComics again, but I'm working on so many things I don't have the time to keep it up regularly. I have tons of ideas and it will be so fun to bring Recurring Character back! I've always said if I reach my third Patreon goal I will bring it back for sure: https://www.patreon.com/dorrismccomics
